“Gift of Love” is the English Translation from Hawaiian. I have photographed this family for many years as they grow and expand; three generations of loving images. The father is a working ranch hand on Maui’s large Ka’ono’ulu Ranch. Yes, a real Hawaiian cowboy—known here as a paniolo. Funny story: I submitted this image to iStockphoto knowing its value in stock would be huge. Well, like most of my submissions, it was rejected. This time they called it PORNOGRAPHY!!!! I almost had to laugh…. and cry. Well, at this point I am glad it it not in the public domain as stock. I’ll wait for the perfect client to come along and do this image proud!

This is the beautiful foal I photgraphed with the owners permission. It was new born and not expected to live as it could not stand up. The mother was very protective and would not leave her babys side, there was hope all round that tomorrow would see the foal’s recovery… and it did. This was taken on my Kodak Z8612IS camera. It has been edited in photoshop to remove a heavy wire and post fence so that the foal could be enjoyed more. There were three strands which crossed over the foal, Thanks for visiting /

She was hard to look at; this emaciated foal with wounds covering most of her lanky body. In some places, the bones of her legs were clearly visible where pieces of her flesh have been torn away…... Abandoned by her herd – probably because of the severity of her injuries – little Spring (as we have decided to call her) was rescued late yesterday afternoon. Wild horses in Utah’s west desert. This guy was just hours old. After walking with the horses on my way back to the truck I came acrosss the birthing site. The evidence from the birth was still on the ground fairly fresh. After I got home and had reviewed my photos I realized it was not mud on the mother. I realized that this baby had to have been born that morning. I just missed it!
