Hill 60 was a low rise on the southern flank of the Ypres salient and was named for the 60 metre contour which marked its bounds. Today there is a memorial on the hill and a restuarant behind which these piglets were photographed.
What’s not to love about the unsoiled feet of a newborn baby? So small and soft, with 4 toes all pretty much the same size so that at a glance it almost looks like there are 6 toes there (well, it did to me). People get them cast in plaster and brass, these fat little baby feet that look like they’ve been stung by bees and puffed up to a silly size. Yet to walk, yet to touch the floor, yet to step on a nail or piece of broken glass or three-corner-jack. Nothing but pure, unsullied feet
This is Koda, the brother of my other kitten Khan. Koda and his brother have very very different personalities, as well as looks. / Khan took about a week to feel comfortable walking around outside the house, whereas Koda was out the door like a shot gun the moment he had the chance to do so. / Khan hates dogs, whereas Koda will rub all over them. Khan is quiet and lazy most of the time, and Koda can’t get into enough trouble! / They both like going for walks down the paddock with you or just generally being where ever you are. / Koda is a worry around water… he is fascinated by it often running around in the rain and laying in puddles. He has already fallen into the fish tank, nearly into the washing machine, jumped into a dam (realising in mid air that is probably wasn’t the smartest of choices) and drinks from the toilet, the bath and the sink… anywhere except the water bowl. What am I to do with him??
Old Teddy, much patched and worn, lacking stuffing and fur
If you remember the fairy tale… I still don’t see how these could be termed “ugly” even by duckling standards…... :o) Mute Swan Cygnets, Abbotsbury Swannery, Dorset, England.

Eurasian Eagle Owl ( Bubo bubo ) Description: The upperparts are brown-black and tawny-buff, showing as dense freckling on the forehead and crown, stripes on the nape, sides and back of the neck, and dark splotches on the pale ground colour of the back, mantle and scapulars. A narrow buff band, freckled with brown buff, runs up from the base of the bill, above the inner part of the eye and along the inner edge of the black-brown, “ear-tufts”. Habits: Active mainly at dusk to dawn. Flight is noiseless, whith soft wingbeats interrupted by gliding when flying over long distance. Will sometimes soar. Voice: A deep, monotonous “oohu-oohu-oohu”. The female’s call is slightly higher than the male’s. When threatened, they may bark and growl. Hunting & Food: Eagle Owls have various hunting techniques, and will take prey on the ground or in full flight. They may hunt in forests, but prefer open spaces. / Eagle Owls will eat almost anything that moves – from beetles to roe deer fawns. The major part of their diet consists of mammals (Voles, rats, mice, foxes, hares etc…), but birds of all kinds are also taken, including crows, ducks, grouse, seabirds, and even other birds of prey (including other owls). Other prey taken include snakes, lizards, frogs, fish, and crabs. / The most common type of prey depends largely on relative availability, but are usually voles and rats. In some coastal areas, they have been known to feed mainly on ducks and seabirds. / Pellets are somewhat compressed, irregularly cylindrical or conical shaped, averaging about 75×32 mm (3×1.25”). Habitat: Eagle Owls occupy a variety of habitats, from coniferous forests to warm deserts. Rocky landscapes are often favoured. Adequate food supply and nesting sites seem to be the most important prerequisites. Distribution: North Africa, Europe, Asia, Middle East.

Meet Pebbles a new edition to the family. The cat (Felis catus), also known as the domestic cat or house cat to distinguish it from other felines and felids, is a small predatory carnivorous species of crepuscular mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin, snakes, scorpions, and other unwanted household pests. It has been associated with humans for at least 9,500 years. A skilled predator, the cat is known to hunt over 1,000 species for food. It can be trained to obey simple commands. Individual cats have also been known to learn on their own to manipulate simple mechanisms, such as doorknobs and toilet handles.Cats use a variety of vocalizations and types of body language for communication, including meowing, purring, “trilling”, hissing, growling, squeaking, chirping, clicking, and grunting.Cats may be the most popular pet in the world, with over 600 million in homes all over the world. They are also bred and shown as registered pedigree pets. This hobby is known as “cat fancy”.

My daughter Mila (2) and I were messing around with my camera while she took her bath. Actually, I was kind of experimenting with ISO 1600 and Topaz, seeing as they claim that if you buy their Topaz DeNoise filter you can save yourself thousands because you won’t need a better camera or lens, you can just take noisy pictures and run them throught the DeNoise filter. I’ve been longing for a Canon 5D MkII, but have settled for the DeNoise filter in the meantime… definitely not the same, but also definitely much cheaper!! ( : Anyway, I quite like the effect, although I’m not sure that you can really claim that cheap camera + topaz = expensive camera… Camera Model Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/80 / Av( Aperture Value ) 2.8 / Metering Mode Evaluative Metering / ISO Speed 1600 / Lens EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM / Focal Length 100.0 mm / Photoshop CS2, Topaz DeNoise
