Lower Antelope Slot Canyon, Page AZ
SEDONA AZ
Upper Antelope Canyon at noon, Page, AZ The canyon is accessible only by guided tour, lead by Navajo (the land is owned by the Navajo). The tours require reservations, best made in advance, and it can get crowded. The guides do a marvelous job of keeping the groups separated with only one group per gallery at a time. The stories the guides tell of the land, the discovery of the place… are as interesting as the place itself. Flash floods have been known to occur here, so it is best to avoid monsoon season, and stay with your guide at all times. A tripod, plenty of battery power (backups!), and a wide zoom are a must here. Speaking of backup batteries, it is a good thing I followed my own advice, because just before I took this shot, my battery died. The 20D was still new to me then, and I wanted to see how many shots I could get from one battery. I still remember the look on the guys face next to me when I said to myself “uh oh, dead battery!” Canon 20D, 17-40 f/4L, tripod

Let there be light, and there was light. And it was good …... This image was taken in Upper Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. This sandstone cavern is located on the Navajo Indian Reservation and is only accessible via four-wheel drive truck and with a Navajo guide. There are a few holes in the ceiling, which let in this perfect beam of light. This place will be visited again, there also is a Lower Antelope Canyon which I didn’t get to see – YET …... First commissioned in 1926, Route 66 was the first highway to link Chicago with Los Angeles. By the 1930’s is was THE way west. John Steinbeck penned it “the mother road” in his work, Grapes of Wrath. This shot was taken somewhere between Kingman and Oatman, AZ. My art with 1000+ views
Upper Antelope Canyon is located near Page, Arizona. It is on the Navajo Reservation and only accessible via guided tour from the Navajo tribe. This place was simply fantastic. There even is a certain charm in this Black and White version.
Captured in Oatman, Arizona. Located in the middle of the desert, and known for the wild Burro’s that raom the street, it is hard to imaging that some peculiar duck species actually migrates from the Grand Canyon to Oatman during the month of June. Scientists are still processing migration data and surely will capture, tag and band some of these for future research. This little fellow was spotted on an antique Fordson tractor right on Main Street. Note the similarities to this Duck spotted at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon: / Then later, spotted in Bristol TN, at a NASCAR race: /

I have been waiting many years to visit Page, Arizona and see the Navajo Slot Canyons. The Upper Antelope Canyon was our first visit and we really enjoyed the spectacular shapes and colors of the sandstone. Grand Canyon National Park, through US National Parks This Image was taken at Yaki Point during a trip to Grand Canyon. Yaki Point is one of the most beautifull lookouts on the south rim and if you ask me the best on during sunrise! / I was there sometime between 4am and 5am in the morning to do some scouting with my flashlight since it was my first day at the canyon. Although I couldn’t see much of the canyon yet the tree you see in the foreground instantly appealed to me as a nice framing. After some more scouting I came back there, set up my tripod and waited, enjoying the sunrise. / I was lucky the strom you see building up on the horizon waited long enough to let the sun through for some minutes. Not much later it was all hung over and snowing. / I love this shot because it seems like everything fit together for me. The time window for this shot was so short and it seems I also selected the right place :-) I came back there the following two days and just didn’t have the same magical light! and after more scouting also didn’t find a better place, at least for me. kind regards, / Michael also available:
This Photo I took before sunset on the south rim of the grand canyon. I went to Pima point which is near heremits rest for this shot! Heard about hopi was great for sunset but If you ask me Pima point or mohavee are the better ones and you are more private there! regards, / Michael
Took this photo from Mohave point at the south rim. Wanted to do some nice sunset shots this evening but the incoming storm was to fast. Soon after this shot it was snowing on the south rim too! kind regards, / Michael
Shot on the Grand Canyon during a storm building up from the north rim. Here it has already spanned the bridge to the south and theres not much left for the sun to shine through. But as I processed this image it was nice to see what shape the clouds where forming with the canyon ;-)
For this shot another photographer I met at the bend was so kind to lend me his 10-22 mm canon wide angle lense. I was very happy because for my other picture of the bend I had to do a 8 shot panorama. A wide angle is definitly my next investment :-) I did mainly color and sharpness adjustments to this shot. This way it definitly doesn’t come out of the sensor ;-) Well sometimes I’m in a mood to do some harsher postproc! hope you guys like it! regards, / Michael
