Constant down pours for more than a week have produced some amazing sights around Uluru. Usually bone dry sand and dust is transformed into a tropical garden if only for a short time. These ants were amazing to watch, they make nests by binding leaves together. 2009 Calendar – January ”God saw all He had made, and it was very good.“ / Genesis 1:31a / Photo Information: / 21st December 2006 EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM / Focal Length: 60.0mm / Extension Tube: EF25 II Aperture: 8.0 / Shutter: 1/60 / ISO: 200 / Flash: 430EX (diffuser) / 26/09/08 . This is an acrylic painting 11” x 14” on cold pressed watercolour paper of Ayres Rock from a distance. Uluru, (Ayres Rock) stands proud in the middle of the Australian Desert with its brilliant red earth. The rock dates back 500 million years. The Australian landscape is such an inspiration. The natural Desert Red sand against the striking Blue sky is amazing / !
How many different ways can you capture a waterfall. I decided on a faster shutter speed than my normal waterblur shots. I bracketed my shot and merged in hdr.. for me a very pleasing end product considering it was taken almost straight into the sun ( with a touch of cover from the trees). :-) MY WATERFALLS SET
Taken after a downpour just as the sun came out. The log has since been swept away. North York Moors near Goathland. Taken with a Bronica SQAi and 50mm wide angle lens and polarising filter. Scanned from a 6×6cm Velvia slide.

Strong southerly winds carry tonnes of sand hundred of kilometres from South Australia and deposit them into the Northern Territory. A scene with movement and drama this has to be one of my favourites from around the base. Shot at the entrance of the Mujutuulu waterhole on the southern side of Uluru. I’ve done so many different angles of this small but pretty waterfall, I’ve decided to give you the low down this time :-) Nelly Ayre Foss is not so well known, but is hidden away close to Goathland, which is the setting for Aidensfield in TV’s Heartbeat…. / / Goathland is in the North York Moors National Park. Nelly Ayre Foss, Goathland, the North York Moors. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year… thanks for looking :-) MY WATERFALLS SET
I’ve been adding a new 1 Terra-bite hard drive to my computer this afternoon, much needed photo storage… as cameras get more pixels, the bigger the files are. / This is Nelly Ayre Foss again, this time two photo’s were used, one exposed for the sky (just) and the other the foreground. I put the foreground on to the sky shot, and then using the history brush brought the good sky underneath to the surface. Nelly Ayre Foss is in the North York Moors National Park. WATERFALLS SET
Another small waterfall just outside of Goathland on the North York Moors.. the falls are hidden away in a valley and are rarely visited, a perfect spot for practicing your long exposure shots. MY WATERFALLS SET

A revisit to a local waterfall that I’ve photographed many times had me wondering how to get a different angle on things. There was a lot of water in the beck causing a fine spray above the falls, so I positioned the camera as level to the top of the falls as I could. I then took three bracketed shots, +2, 0, -2, at normal speed and then did the same again except with a longer exposure. I then merged them to hdr. The result was quite pleasing, instead of the silky look at the bottom of the falls the water is much more bubbly, yet the silky look is still there on the water going over the falls. There’s still a slight misty feeling to the shot, I tried to de-mist the image a touch, but it made it too harsh and sharp so it stays as is. MY WATERFALLS SET

This shot is for Dougie1, he recently posted a shot of Nell Ayre Foss and I mentioned it is a tremendous sight when the river is in spate.. so I’m posting this for him :-) WATERFALLS SET
This has to be the best sunset at Uluru I’ve seen so far. Uluru is lit perfectly at the very last moments of full sunlight for the day and a cloudless sky is broken up by the faint whispers of smoke sent up by distant fires. Uluru, Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park / Northern Territory / Australia
When I was on my way to Kata Tjuta I saw this small object on the road. As I got closer I saw this little “Devil” basking in the sun on the bitumen road. So I stopped and relocated him to a much safer location. I then grabbed the 1ds and took a couple of snaps. The best view was to get as low as possible. So here I am laying on the red dirt, spinifex digging into my back and camera in hand with these tourist buses flying by. I’m sure it was a funny sight to the international tourists but it would be no surprise to the bus driver who is probably thinking “Stupid photographer” site: www.mattlauder.com.au / blog: www.mattlauder.wordpress.com.
