We stopped to catch some shots of a waterfall on the roadside, as I walked towards the waterfall my attention was drawn to this wildflower. It stood so straight and tall and was blemish free. It is called a FOXGLOVE. It blooms in the SPRING of the year April – June. I got up close with my Canon EOS Rebel XT, and watched this ant come out of one petal and took this shot. It was taken with a 18-55 lens, 100 ISO, It was in the shade. This shot was taken as is. Digitalis is a genus of about 20 species of herbaceous perennials, shrubs, and biennials that are commonly called foxgloves. The genus was traditionally placed in the figwort family Scrophulariaceae, but upon review of phylogenetic research, it has now been placed in the much enlarged family Plantaginaceae.[1] The genus is native to Europe, western and central Asia, and northwestern Africa. The scientific name means “finger-like” and refers to the ease with which a flower of Digitalis purpurea can be fitted over a human fingertip. The flowers are produced on a tall spike, are tubular, and vary in colour with species, from purple to pink, white, and yellow. The best-known species is the Common Foxglove, Digitalis purpurea. It is a biennial, often grown as an ornamental plant due to its showy flowers, that range in colour from purples through to whites, with variable marks and spotting. The first year of growth produces only the long, basal leaves. In the second year, the erect leafy stem 0.5-2.5 m tall develops. The larvae of the Foxglove Pug feed on the flowers of Digitalis purpurea. Other Lepidoptera species feed on the leaves including Lesser Yellow Underwing. / The term digitalis is also used for preparations containing cardiac glycosides, particularly digoxin, extracted from plants of this genus. UPDATE: this shot won the award of first runner up in ISP’s amateur photographer of the year competition, held in Las Vegas, Nevada in March 2008. This is an independent judging competition, judged on subject, focus, composition, perspective, clarity, and presentation. August 2007, it was published on the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC WEBSITE.

I used my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with EOS Lens 18 -55. / BEST VIEWED LARGE. TAKEN AS IS. I loved taking these shots at Yellowstone National Park, Wy., because the colors are amazing there, and the volcanic activity etc is also amazing…the park is not to far from where I live and I figure all the volcanic activity in my own mountains could even be related to Yellowstone. The earth is very much alive in this whole area. I mean several States, and if you hike you will find even more that you would never see any other way. Mother nature is full of peace and rage both, and this is a perfect example of that to me.

Storm clouds clearing, and the sun rays from the mountains just thought it was all so beautiful. Just an amazing sight had to stop and get this shot. I took this shot in the Northern California area, better known as the Sierra Nevada’s. Who would have thought you could see such great wildlife in the wilds of California. This photo was taken on Hwy 395 near Lone Pine, not far from Bishop. I just think this area is so beautiful and looks different in every season. Today was great with the clouds and the lighting.

The aspens are just as beautiful in Winter as in any other season. The white snow and white aspens against that beautiful morning blue sky, with the shadows from the trees Just spoke to me when I looked up and saw them. When I took this it became one of my most popular pictures at that time. I had it printed in a pearl metallic as a Christmas gift, and received two orders for it after it was seen. It was taken with a KODAK EASY SHARE. I sometimes take a smaller camera when we go snowmobiling, and it was the first digital my husband bought me. This was taken near Rexburg, Id. on our last snowmobile trip for the season, it was taken in March. It is a as is shot. I sold two 11×14 prints of this shot, which I signed and numbered.

  • Thought I would try a scene in Sepia…kinda something different

Taken at Anderson Ranch Reservoir, although the sun was not where it seems to be, this really was an illusion. I had to get out and catch this shot. I love this lake and this place. When we lived here my camera was with me at all times, even when I went down for groceries, you never knew what you might see on the way down or back up. I love it here and it will always be home for me in my heart. Exposure time 1/160 sec., / F-Stop F/4.0, Aperture Value F/2.0, ISO 64.0. Canon EOS, Rebel XT, Lens 18-55 mm.

I followed and took several different shots. I took these at dusk up our mountain. I love silhouette’s, and you have to get them quick once the sun is gone. Best to use just the dusk colors. I am so happy I did this, because we had to sell the bike. Maybe someday again if age doesn’t stop us, right now the economy hardship and being on the road with the truck, we decided to sell it to someone who would and could use it. Sold this as a large canvas print, Jan. 2009, Thanks so much to the buyer, you made my year! July 27, 2009 sold a mounted print, woo hooo…

When I saw how the people looked on the bridge I wanted to use this perspective to show how massive the falls really are. I used my Canon Rebel XT, I did not use a tripod, and I used a 70-300mm lens. Shutter speed was 1/100 sec., F-stop and aperture value was F/7.1, ISO Speed 400, and Focal Length was 30.0mm. This is an as is shot. Multnomah Falls is a waterfall on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, located east of Troutdale, between Corbett and Dodson, along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The falls drops in two major steps, split into an upper falls of 542 feet (165 m) and a lower falls of 69 feet (21 m), with a gradual 9 foot (3 m) drop in elevation between the two, so the total height of the waterfall is conventionally given as 620 feet (189 m). Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the State of Oregon. Underground springs from Larch Mountain are the year-round source of water for the waterfall, augmented by spring runoff from the mountain’s snowpack and rainwater during the other seasons. / A foot trail leads to Benson Footbridge, a 45-foot (14 m)-long footbridge that allows visitors to cross 105 feet (32 m) above the lower cascade. The trail continues to a platform at the top of the upper falls, the Larch Mountain Lookout, where visitors get a bird’s-eye view of the Columbia Gorge and also of “Little Multnomah”, a small cascade slightly upstream from the “upper” falls, which is not visible from ground level. The footbridge is named after Simon Benson, who had the bridge built in 1914.[1] / Benson soon gave Portland land that included most of the falls as well as nearby Wahkeena Falls. The Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation Company gave Portland land at the base of Multnomah Falls contingent upon their agreement to build a lodge at the site. A few years later architect A.E. Doyle, who designed the Meier & Frank Building, was commissioned by the city to design the lodge, which was completed in 1925.[citation needed] The lodge is now on the National Register of Historic Places. / In contrast to other falls along the Gorge, the Multnomah area is also reachable via a stretch of I-84 east of Troutdale, Oregon. The rest area and tunnel under the road (as well as the Union Pacific Railroad tracks) allow Interstate travelers from either direction to stop and visit the falls. Origin legend / There is a Native American legend that explains the origins of the falls. In this legend, a tribe was infected with a deadly disease and was in danger of dying.[citation needed] The daughter of the chief went to the top of a cliff and prayed to the Great Spirit to find how she could stop the epidemic. She was told that to stop the epidemic, she would have to throw herself off the cliff and sacrifice herself. She did this and died. The next day, the chief found his daughter’s body at the bottom of the cliff. He wept bitterly and cried out to the Great Spirit to give him a sign if this sacrifice was not in vain. At that moment, water began to fall from the top of the cliff, forming Multnomah Falls. The legend also says that under the right conditions, you can see the daughter’s face in the waterfall.

I have wanted to get a nice picture of it for about ten years now, and we actually went by it two days ago. I used my Canon Rebel XT to capture this shot. I was excited that we were going to get there at sundown. Funny thing is right after this shot, we ran into another one just like it in Indiana. I could not believe someone else put the exact same cross on their farm property, wonder if their related. This is Groom, Texas skyline, and put them on the map. The settings were shutter speed 1/30sec. F-stop F/5.0, ISO 400, Focal Length 140.0mm. This was an as is shot. Welcome to the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ Ministries and the marvelous story of what God is doing through this 19 story cross located on Interstate 40 at Groom, Texas. Construction of the / cross frame was done in two shops in Pampa, Texas by more than 100 welders and erected in July of 1995. Truly, all things are possible for those who believe. Ten million people pass by every year. One thousand stop each day. This 190 foot tall free standing Cross can be seen from twenty miles away. Thomas saith to him, “Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?” Jesus saith to him: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me.”

Hawks are widely reputed to have visual acuity several times that of a normal human being. This is due to the many photoreceptors in the retina (up to 1,000,000 per square mm for Buteo, against 200,000 for humans), an exceptional number of nerves connecting these receptors to the brain, and an indented fovea, which magnifies the central portion of the visual field.

This is a shot of Anderson Ranch Reservoir taken this year in early Feb. At the end of the shot is Steel Mountain and sky. The sky is always different, but in this shot kind of plain. I added a new sky, making this a composite landscape. I used my Canon EOS, Rebel XT to take the shot. Shutter Speed 1/1000, F-stop and aperture value F/11, and Focal Length 49 mm.

The giraffe is related to deer and cattle, but is placed in a separate family, the Giraffidae, consisting of only the giraffe and its closest relative, the okapi. Its range extends from Chad in Central Africa to South Africa. Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands, or open woodlands. However, when food is scarce they will venture into areas with denser vegetation. They prefer areas with plenty of acacia growth. They will drink large quantities of water when available which enables them to live for extended periods in dry, arid areas.

I entered it into a competition, and it won, so now it is time to share it with all of you. I do hope you get as excited as I did. I did work on it in PS a little, I thought it blurred some, not as sharp as I would like, and I had to take some noise out. I cropped it just a little, and saturated the color. Thats about it.
