Beauty is Eternally Free / Hamoa Beach Maui Hawai’i I picked some fresh Plumeria blossoms and a branch of blooming Bougainvillea and tossed them onto the luxurious black sand of Hamoa Beach and was only able to get a couple of shots when a wave came in and carried them out to sea. From the atoms of the world, / He created a multitude of mirrors; / into each one of them / He cast the image of His Face; / To the awakened eye, / anything that appears beautiful is only a reflection of that Face. / Now that you have seen the reflection, hurry to its Source; / In that primordial Light the reflection vanishes completely. Do not linger far from that primal Source; / When the reflection fades, you will be lost in darkness. / The reflection is as transient as the smile of a rose; / If you want permanence, / turn towards the Source; / If you want fidelity, / look to the Mine of faithfulness. / Why tear your soul apart over something here one moment / and gone the next?” ~ by Jami ~ Translation by Andrew Harvey and Eryk Hanut Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi

You know those people who say we should be the change we wish to see? those ones who always talk about how they want to treat the planet better for the sake of global warming? Then they don’t do anything to help? the term actions speak louder than words don’t click into their heads? This is depicting that subject. It’s revlolving around hypocricts out there who say things like that just to get that positive attention.. please note that Alannah is not one of those people.

With it being Pink Ribbon Month, I know many Redbubblers are doing pieces of art specifically to raise awareness for breast cancer. I, also, wanted to add my name to the list of artists doing something special for this cause. You may or may not know that breastfeeding, while infinitely beneficial to the child, cuts the risks of getting breast cancer (along with other wonderful benefits for the mother – not the least of which is calorie burning and not having to get up in the middle of the night to make bottles). I don’t have the statistics here – be sure to look them up if you’re interested, but I know that breasfeeding mothers are at less risk of the dreaded disease than mothers who do not breastfeed their babies. I am extremely pro-breastfeeding, for many reasons. But, I like to point out the “selfish” ones, because so many women are under the impression that it is an inconvenience for them to breastfeed. I consider the outrageous prices of formula and sterilizing bottles to be much more of an inconvenience, thank you very much. But, now I’ve stepped onto my soap box…I’m quite passionate about this. But, what could be more important than insuring better health for not only your child, but also giving yourself the added benefit of protecting your health as well! It’s a win, win, win, win, win, win…. you get the idea… situation! I’ve also added a bit of symbolism here, pointing to Mother Earth, oneness with nature, and nourishment – both physical and spiritual – on a world-wide, big picture scale. This magical composite scene features me and my son; all my own photos and textures were used. I have breastfed all my babies, and I can attest to the wonderful bonding that occurs between mother and child. If purchased, all proceeds for this piece will go to cancer research uk.
