Oil on canvas 150 X 100 cm. Completed 1998. / www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “In every atom, there are worlds within worlds” – Yoga Vasishtha The Awakening resulted from a series of intense dreams and visions I had experienced over a six-month period in which much of the painting was revealed. The rest unfolded in the process of painting it. Out of all the paintings I’ve done so far, The Awakening is the most dear to me because so many extraordinary events took place while I was painting it. For instance, a little way into the work I had a clear vision of a group of Aboriginal men appear in my home who stared at me for a long time before showing me some cave drawings. They then instructed me to include the cave stories in my painting (brown panel at centre left). In another incident, I was painting a pink starfish (top right hand corner) when I was overcome by Ammachi’s (the hugging saint) divine energy and went into a state of bliss. One day I connected with the dolphins during a meditation, and was shown that when humanity becomes enlightened their work would be done and they could finally go home. They are missing their home very much they said. / The Awakening is like a blueprint that represents the awakening of humanity, the merging and honouring of various beliefs, religions and cultures. It reminds us that we are all a part of the one spirit (oneness), having beautiful and unique experiences on our way home to ourselves. The Rainbow Serpent has awoken from the dream and is now manifesting the dream. As a result, the land and water creatures have taken physical form. / The hands represent spirit reaching out to mankind in love and compassion. They are guiding us. Shortly after finishing The Awakening I included it in a Sacred Art exhibition, along with The Dream, which featured six local artists. The Awakening was completed over a period of 12 months. It is the second of a series starting with The Dream and culminating in the Buddha Within.

“A person needs new experiences. They jar something deep inside, allowing him to grow. Without change, something inside us sleeps, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.” / Dune / Tokyo.2007

This is a symbolic painting representing the idea of re-incarnation and rebirth. The sleeping figure defines the peace or sleep of passing over and the awakened figure is representational of the guardian spirit awaiting on the otherside to greet the soul upon its arrival. I relied heavily upon symbology and colour for this Celtic inspired piece and I hope that upon looking into it you can find a personal message that strikes a chord for yourself. It also echoes heavily on the love reunited theme as ‘love is eternal’ and I’m a big softy so there…I hope you enjoy looking at this piece :) Kate :)

This is the acrylic sister piece to The Awakening….harking back to Celtic myth the souls of deceased warriors were harvested and swept off to the other side by the Morrigan…a raven haired goddess…and this is the scene that pre-empts the warriors crossing to the Otherworld where he will wait for his love to join him (seen in The Awakening). The Celts believed very strongly in reincarnation and I love this theme. I portrayed the style in an Indo-Celtic fusion as a salute to our roots and to the mixture of travelling tribes that really did make up the lifeblood of The Celts. It also was helped along by a great album by the Afro-Celts….check em out! Kate :) Image copyright © 2003, klb – of elegantsavage. After all, I didn’t study Graphic Design and Fine Art at Cal Poly Pomona for nothing! :) Mixed media drawing: markers, conte crayon, india ink, acrylic, charcoal, gesso/ gesso tints, stencils
