  • My friend lives on an avocado grove in California high on the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The avocado trees are an incredible mass of tangled-looking branches like something out of a fairy tale. This day, I happened to catch the light when it was dappling the trees, the ground and my friend’s dog, Toby. It makes it difficult to tell where the grove ends and which tree is separate from another.
