This is actually the backup ASI on a G1000-equipped Cessna 182. But whatever… it’s an airspeed indicator. It’s for “flight junkies” (aviation enthusiasts), obviously. Wear it proudly :-)

Capt. John Davis and Bombardier Lt. Carl Thompson are walking passed their bird to meet the rest of the boys for a few beers. Both can faintly hear music and laughter of men spilling from a tent near the end of the runway. Davis looks back into the setting sun, listens to the big radial engines still ticking from an earlier test flight. The distinct smell of burnt oil still lingers in the air. / “God I love that smell” he thinks to himself. / He gazes down upon the puddles of oil underneath the port and starboard engines. / “Hey, does it look like engine one is leaking more than usual?” John asks, turning to Carl who had his half smoked cigarette in the corner of his mouth. / “It’s been leaking more since Frankfurt”, Carl replies. / “Frankfurt? Yeah, I think you’re right”. Davis can still hear the screams of the waistgunner, when the shrapnel tore through the entire port side. / “Poor Sammy, he never had a chance”, Davis says. / Carl didn’t reply, just walked quietly next to John, the setting sun throwing long shadows onto the tarmac, making them both look like giants. / Both men knew that tonight they indeed feel larger than life, because there is no mission tonight. In Nov ‘08, Jan’ 09, and again on March 7, 2009 this image was featured in the group, Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams. Many thanks to Sharon Mau (and her sister, Karon) for honoring this image! On a road trip through the state of Alaska, we came upon this beautiful lake. I didn’t make notes so now can’t remember the name of the lake or its location. Captured this scene at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA. The amount of aircraft on display in this museum is truly impressive. Later that day the owner took the P-51 Mustang for a flight which included a couple of low-level highspeed passes. The aircraft to the right in this image is a PBY Catalina. / Taken with the Nikon D300 and Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lens. Light HDR processing applied.

A restored Vulcan Bomber being ‘escorted’ into the Dawlish Air Show, 20/08/09, by the Red Arrows Display Team. / This was the first time in 17 years that these aircraft have been seen together at a show. For those interested in the Vulcan, I will upload one of the craft on its own, and I will be adding a journal with a few more of the pictures on. / I will not bore you with lots of pics of the same craft. / Also, I probably will not be uploading any Red Arrows shots as there are enough already on RB. I used my Sigma 70-300 Lens for this capture. Hope you like it. / Thank you for looking. Best Viewed Large.

The Lightning tricycle landing gear and twin-boom configuration completed the list of major deviations from what might he considered conventional Army fighters. In this respect, it was very unusual that the Lightning design progressed beyond the testing stage; such radical concepts seldom achieved production status. 83 year old pilot conducting some pre-flight checks in the de Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk, while his wingman ensures the radio is set properly. These are the types of shot I just wished I would take more of. I am beginning to see the value of the human aspect of photography. Taken with Nikon D200, Nikkor 24-120mm lens, post-processed with ReDynaMix for slight HDR effect, Dodge and Burnt in CS3, and final Digital Lightroom edits. Check out this slideshow I created from that day This image is currently on display at the Walls Fine Art gallery in Downtown Norfolk, VA.

It’s amazing what pops up in your i-pod…. had it on shuffle when I was working on this, & along came Wasted Days & Wasted Nights by Freddy Fender. / Call me crazy, but I swear some of that song went into the tones of this one…... [canon 1000D, tamron 18-200mm, 12 very annoying people labouriously removed, numerous layers & blend modes, threw in a couple of textures to help with the tones, as well a smidge of cyan…. & finished with a vignette]
