January 2009 Watercolour pencil, watercolour pencil, graphite and coloured pencil on paper. A huge huge thanks to support from the Traditional Equine Art: Horses, Ponies, and Unicorns! Group who selected this illustration for their February 2009 avatar and added me as a featured artist. I’m very grateful for their encouragement and compliments and hope that you enjoy my horses, too! This image also won the Valentine’s Ponies Challenge (Feb 2009), though I must add in fairness that it was the only image entered. However, people voted for it anyway, so thanks to all who voted!

One of the wonderful things about New York City is that if you are walking down a street and it starts to rain, out of nowhere will appear numerous street vendors, saying “Umbrellas four dollars”. They also sell large, doorman-sized umbrellas for eight dollars. Look for them at the subway entrances, and on most street corners. Incredibly convenient!

The common use of the name “sequoia” generally refers to Sequoiadendron, which occurs naturally only in the various groves that exist on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.
