Lone in the light of that magical grove, / I felt the stars of the spirits of Love / Gather and gleam round my delicate youth, / And I heard the song of the spirits of Truth; To quench my longing I bent me low / By the streams of the spirits of Peace that flow / In that magical wood in the land of sleep.” ~ By Sarojini Naidu Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / Shooting Date/Time 02 Aug 2007 22:16:30 / Tv Shutter Speed 1/500 Av Aperture 11.0 ISO 400 / Lens EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

This abandoned shack is hidden beneath gnarled trees, behind an equally abandoned antiques shop, and surrounded by broken lamps, overgrown grass, spindly trees, and countless other pieces of mystery. This mysterious structure was found hidden behind an abandoned market just off the highway near Hamilton, Canada.
Prickly dark thistles are silhouetted against the eerie soft pink light of approaching October dusk. This was taken at the beautiful arboretum at the University of Guelph, Canada.
“If the path be beautiful, let us not ask where it leads.” / ~ Anatole France (French Writer, member of the French Academy and Nobel Prize for Literature)
Romania, Western Carpathians.
When I go walking about, I can never stay on the path. I am always being drawn this way and that. An image catches my eye and I have to explore. I try to make my foot prints light, so that no one knows I was there, but it’s hard for me to stay on the path someone else has made for me. Northwest Park. Windsor, CT 10-31-2009
Autumn afternoon in New England
This image was taken at around dusk during October and shows the River Dove near Derby in the Peak District. It was taken using a Canon 5DMKII digital SLR fitted with a 40 year old Leica lens which produces wonderful sharp images with a smooth color that the more modern lenses don’t seem to match. It is a great mix of the old and the new and one that is very much a favorite of mine – not least since the lens is completely manual – no metering, autofocus or aperture control from the camera electronics, everything is done by hand! With this image I was trying to capture the stillness of the evening as a subtle sunset gave way to darkness, you can see the lights from a nearby pub in the distance just starting to make themselves felt in the weakening light. This is very much a time of transition especially on an a late Autumn evening as day slides gracefully into night in much the same way as the Autumn is sliding away to make room for the coming Winter. A magical sense of stillness that I still feel when I look at this image today.
