  • Two leaves cast to the wind only to be rescued from the rushing water by a rock. A metaphor for life and way we can be cast to the winds of change and hustle and rush of everyday life. Yet one can find peace in our faith if we seek it. Refuge from the flood, the flow the busy lives we lead. Here’s to quite moments of reflection.( A Finalist for the Betterphoto’s November 05 image of the Month)

  • A rushing creek and a few fallen leaves taking a brief respite from thier rapid trip downriver via breeze and rushing water. The rocks offer a brief sacntuary before they are swept away into the coming winter.

  • Autumn leaves line a stream flowing through the rainforest at the base of Mt. Rainier

  • As the water passes by me so does the Autumn season. By the time I am able to return to this spot the colors will have mostly been blown unto the winds. Seasons pass so quickly, much as our lives if we live for today and not for eternity. I am honored to have to selected as members all time favorite by Global Photo’s.”All his work is outstanding and showcases the very best nature has to offer. Was very hard to select just one. Have chosen this one because it is simply stunning. Gorgeous colours, lush greens and perfect exposure :))” http://www.redbubble.com/people/globalphotos

  • A couple of rocks offering a resting place to a pair of leaves. The intriguing thing about this shot as you walked downstream the golden reflection of the trees above disapears. I was shocked to see this vivid color as I walked to a point cross stream. Needless to say I just about tumbled into the water because I was so excited to enjoy this view.

  • Canon 350D lens 17-40 mm / River stream in the forest.

  • WHat particularly drew me to this scene were the patterns of light and shadow on the rocks and leaves. Taken on an Autumn afternoon in Jacob’s Fork River, South Mountain State Park, NC. Figuring out a way to get from one slippery and mossy rock to another in order to take the photo was a real challenge too-especially carrying tripod and camera equipment. / Nikon D50, 42mm,F22 ,2 sec / /

  • Well, I spotted this out on my Saturday hike from above and scouted for a way down into the capture the scene. What I found was a impenetrable blend of steep banks and thick brush covered in Poison Ivy and Devils Club. Common sense told me to let it go but in the end I slid down using my tripod as a walking stick and managed to get to waters edge with both feet and behind a bit wet. I hope it was worth it for it seemed so at the time to me. Golden leaves on a moss covered boulder in a small stream contrast nicely against rushing water

  • “Clouds on the Water, Fire Near the Sky” / Purchase a Mouse Pad of this image I happened onto this gorgeous sunrise over the White River at a time when the water was at its lowest. I was delighted to catch the calm surface for reflections, as the low rising sun was casting its first orange glow over the autumn colors.

  • Featured in Falling Leaves November 13, 2008. “If winter is slumber and spring is birth, and summer is life, then autumn rounds out to be reflection. It’s a time of year when the leaves are down and the harvest is in and the perennials are gone. Mother Earth just closed up the drapes on another year and it’s time to reflect on what’s come before.” / Mitchell Burgess, Northern Exposure, Thanksgiving, 1992 This little shot was taken on a Sunday dog walk, November 9, 2008, here in Maryland. Sadly, the leaves were already down … but the stillness and beauty of the forest and the stream are always welcome!! I was using the Nikon D40x with the 18-135 lens and the polarizing filter. Just a smidge of Orton applied for the fun of it. Companion piece to “First, By Reflection” First, By Reflection / Obsidian Dawn

  • “By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.” / Confucius (551 BC – 479 BC) Companion piece to “A Time To Reflect” Taken November 9, 2008 with Nikon D40x, lens 18-135 with polarizing filter. Shot in Montgomery County, Maryland. Just the tiniest bit of Orton tossed on for giggles. A Time To Reflect Obsidian Dawn

  • Colorful maple leaves scattered across moss covered boulders as a small streams tumbles around a bend in Washington near Mt. Rainier

  • We never thought this day would come, / But it’s finally here at last, What once was our bright future, / Is now are dim-lit past, But we hold onto the memories, / The lessons that we learned, The pathways we have traveled down, / The corners that we turned, And soon we say our sad goodbyes, / That will last us forever, We may see each other again, / Maybe once or maybe never, So make your goodbyes ones to remember, / The kind that will stay in their heads, Those are the goodbyes they will treasure, / The ones that were sad to be said.

  • A ‘burn’ is the Scottish Highland name for a stream, creek or beck. On my walk through the forest, I spotted a broken branch of Rowan, with its lovely Autumnal reds, and placed it on the ledge next to the miniature waterfall. A still – life of Nature. / The water was coloured with the peat that it picks up as it flows through the hillside. / All that was missing were the fairies ! I deliberately blurred the water, using f22 on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted securely on my tripod, fitted with a polarising filter to reduce the light still further ( it was quite low light under the canopy of trees). The shutter speed was 15 seconds ! I used my Tamron 28-300mm lens set at 135mm, iso 100, cloudy wb, RAW file Processed in PS CS3. Most of my processing is done in Adobe Camera Raw. I applied selective curves/levels adjustments, selective colour, and sharpened with Intellisharpen. • Best View Larger Feature in Live and Let Live group. Taken at Watkins Glen State Park, Watkins Glen, NY on 10/10/2009. I was with Lina Paul and Dj We where there because Dj has a week off before he goes for basic training for the Army Reserves. The park was really crowded and it was difficult to capture the waterfalls without anyone in them. I will catch up with replys and reviews later on today. I am going to the pumpkin farm with the kids. Canon 50D / Sigma 17-70mm lens / Shutter Speed 1.50sec / F-11 / ISO 100 / Tripod
