I am proud to unveil a new painting from my studio entitled, “Segawa Kikunjojo II”. (Dancing The Part Of Yamauba) My painting is styled after ancient (1760 era) Japanese Graphic art, by artists like Tori Kiyomitsu Ga and Eshi Tori Kiyomasu Hitsu and based on paintings like, The Autumn Moon Above Ishi Mountain and Segawa Kikunojo II, Dancing the Part of Yamuba. / This is the first in my study paintings of ancient Japanese artwork. It was a very intense and rewarding piece to work on. Every line and brush stroke needed to be calculated and yet also flow with an ease and grace. This is my first original painting in a series of many I intend to delve into over the next year. / I am very drawn to Japanese art and grew up with traditional Japanese artwork in my home. The beauty of this type of art has always captured me, as I hope my work will for you as well. Here are some photos of my art as it is being created and completed…enjoy! xoxo

This painting has turned out to be a real favourite, in that since it was posted, it has racked up a whopping 759 views, 40 favouritings, 131 comments, Challenge wins and countless features, and now these two new ones…it was painted on the spur of the moment and I can’t remember the inspiration for it, but I do remember liking it right from the start, and I am totally flabbergasted and pleased at its success. It is part of the series “Trees“ / Autumn Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, / Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; / Conspiring with him how to load and bless / With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run; / To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees, / And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; / To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells / With a sweet kernel; to set budding more, / And still more, later flowers for the bees, / Until they think warm days will never cease, / For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells... I decided a while back not to clog up your watchlists too much with journals about features (only after having read that people tend to get annoyed with such things) however, I’ve felt a bit uneasy not publicly thanking those who had featured my work, so I thought I’d compromise and do bulk feature thanking thingies as and when! After taking it a bit slower on RB recently, it’s been a real boost today to find out that I have been featured again. My painting Autumn Trees was featured in the group Trees and Tree Parts’, amongst a host of beautifully painted works. It’s a real honour to be amongst these paintings. Take a look for yourself at the other amazing images featured. This painting is one of a series of four large canvas paintings I created last year on the theme, Trees through the Seasons. They were exhibited for the first time in January last year and I was invited to dispay them again at the same exhibition a few months ago. They will also be shown next week at an exhibition raising money for Philippino street children.

In Dimensions... / Autumn Water The northern mountain is blanked in cloud; / for one who hides away, it’s pleasing — perfect. / So that we could visit each other, I’ve tried to climb high; / my heart follows along, like a wild goose, to exhaustion. / It’s the hour to see village people returning; / they walk on the sand, rest at the ferry landing. / At the edge of the sky, the trees look like grass; / Near the river bank is an islet shaped like the moon. / How welcome if you met me with some wine! / We’d share, intoxicated together through the autumn festival. I am really pleased with this feature…I intended this painting to be very simple…like a haiku poem it says much in a few lines…heavy tree trunks and lots of leaves would be totally inappropriate here… I included the complexity of the veil to add the sense of something more awesome on the way…winter…Live Love Dream recognized this and featured it…how wonderful!!! / End of the Season There is a sense of mourning in Autumn. / The last fiery color before the cold and gray / when Autumn reaches out to those around her, / desperate to connect / before the veil comes down— / before everything changes / and she is / alone.
