Face like tree in the woods, autumn time 2007
A grab shot taken as I walked back to the car yesterday – looks like they are starting early this year.

These make excellent birthday cards ! I am designing 12 images based around the months of the year and the old Celtic luna months. They will reflect the changing of the seasons and the ever turning wheel of the year, the magic and mystery attatched to each part of the cycle and any special festivals falling in those months. I hope you enjoy them as much as I am enjoying creating them :) Blessings Angie* “October – and the skies are cool and gray / O’er stubbles emptied of their latest sheaf, / Bare meadow, and the slowly falling leaf. / The dignity of woods in rich decay / Accords full well with this majestic grief / That clothes our solemn purple hills to-day, / Whose afternoon is hush’d, and wintry brief / Only a robin sings from any spray. And night sends up her pale cold moon, and spills / White mist around the hollows of the hills, / Phantoms of firth or lake; the peasant sees / His cot and stockyard, with the homestead trees, / Islanded; but no foolish terror thrills / His perfect harvesting; he sleeps at ease. “ William Allingham

Happy Halloween!!! Another covered bridge south west of Breezewood, PA, about a half hour’s drive (including getting a bit lost) from Jackson’s Mill Bridge. This one is in much worse condition than Jackson’s Mill … the road to it is non existent now. I have more images, from inside, that I’ll be posting. Next to it is another wonderful old mill … just to the right of this photo … but again, in not nearly as good a condition as Jackson’s Mill. Just a ways beyond is what once must have been a lovely big farm house. Now, the front yard is filled with livestock (giant cows!). My husband and I thought it was abandoned until, just as we drove away, a thick plume of smoke began to rise from its chimney. Obsidian Dawn

Artist’s Note: I love everything about the Fall: harvests of apples and pumpkins, cool evenings with full orange moon, windy days for kite flying, children dressing up in costumes… the Scarecrow / Standing among giants of sunflowers, / Bright pumpkins growing at my feet. / Crows caw and leaves float on the breeze, / Old green tractor chugs a lively beat. Children sweetly laughed into my hair, / Sticky hands with fresh straw to stuff. / Vintage clothes & buttons bound me now, / Soft cotton flannel is plenty warm enough. I may be made to look scary to a bird, / But really, aren’t I quite nice and smart? / Take this leather gloved hand to hold, / I am not fake, this body has a heart. Dorothy knew me, that courageous Lion too. / So, see my face and know I feel, / for in the mind of a child… / I become real. October is a month of mixed emotions…fall is so beautiful…the air crisp and clean…the skies bluer than blue…there is no other sound like that of the crunch of leaves underfoot as you go for a Sunday walk…but there is a feeling of regret that the joys of summer are gone…the warmth of the sun will now be gone for months…but for the children Hallowe’en brings it’s promise of sweet things…for us in Canada, thanksgiving is just around the corner…the painting seeks to incorporate all that is October in one radical hit…the colours, the sadness, the promise, the celebrations... Changed the title to “Samhain”. The term “Samhain” derives from the name of a month in the ancient Celtic calendar, in particular the first three nights of this month, with the festival marking the end of the summer season and the end of the harvest. The Gaelic festival became associated with the Catholic All Souls’ Day, and appears to have influenced the secular customs now connected with Halloween. It is also the Gaelic word for the month of “November”. stock credits / model / http://froweminahildstock.deviantart.com/art/Medieval-Forest-Stock-004-140359100 background / http://ashensorrow.deviantart.com/art/Premade-Background-170-139338303
