Vast rows of deciduous trees can be seen in perfect columns, displaying their autumn attire, at this tree farm in eastern Oregon. Tree farmers sow rows of trees in varying stages so they can be harvested at different times and therefore produce a constant yield to maintain a consistent gross. Eastern Oregon October 2007

Featured in Country Bumpkin September 12, 2009. / Featured in Old Barns Around the World December 5, 2008. Not far from Pavia, Pennsylvania, on route 869. This image was taken with my Olympus C-5000 zoom in October of 2007. I’d like to add a little ps to this one … dated today, September 12, 2009. This little shot was taken only about a month or so after I was bitten by the Camera-Bug so far not fatally and to have folks still drop by and comment is a great honor. Not only was it one of the first shots I took … all wrapped up in the euphoria of the newness of love … but it represents one of my first forays into Photoshop. There was (still is) a giant telephone pole just past the right front edge of the barn … with all it’s glorious and frustrating telephone wires going everywhere. So with this image I learned the beauties of the clone tool … and learned a bit of patience as well, lol. I owe a lot to this little barn … and to those of you who have kindly stopped by!!!! Thank you!!

Rustic old truck (1940’s) on farm in North Carolina mountains. / PS…... Since posting this, I have had some inquries asking what Popeye has to do with this photo. Many years ago, in the Southeastern US and maybe other areas, a vehicle that had only one headlight shining was called a “Popeye.” Hope that explains it a little better. /

Oils (16×20 inches) original sold A painting depicting Ireland in days past. Autumn in Ireland and the man is returning home with his cart of peat. This is an old painting I did several years ago, entirely from my imagination. We still use peat (turf) in Ireland and love the smell wafting through the air during the long, cold winters. Every year, at about this time, on country roads in County Clare, you will most likely slow down to a snail’s pace as you drive behind an ancient tractor (with an even more ancient driver… :-) ) loaded with peat. When the load is brought to your home, be prepared for a few hours of hard, back-breaking work as the huge load of peat must be stacked neatly in a pile. Nothing beats cooking on the old range and the warmth spreads through the house and food tastes so much better. The kitchen is the best place to be on a cold day!

MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD / Best viewed large. / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group COUNTRY ROADS/AROUND THE WORLD / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group NATURAL COLOR AND LIGHT / / / This is a recent photo of my favorite country road! It is located in Flatwoods, Kentucky, in Greenup County, which lies in the northeastern part of the bluegrass state. Many of my relatives live in or just outside of Flatwoods, and my Dad built this one. / / The scenery from this road is almost surreal, it is so beautiful. Surrounding this road are country farms, barns and old churches. This road winds around a gorgeous mountain cloaked with a variety of lush trees and evergreens, whose leaves are radiant in the Fall of the year with brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red, brown and green. / / At the top of the mountain is the end of this magnificent road, which leads to a private, gated mansion that overlooks the entire county. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and everything, including time, seems to stand still on this beautiful road. It is a breath-taking view from the very top, and this is truly my favorite country road!.. / / / To read and learn more about this special country road, / go to:COUNTRY ROAD
Artist’s Note: I love everything about the Fall: harvests of apples and pumpkins, cool evenings with full orange moon, windy days for kite flying, children dressing up in costumes… the Scarecrow / Standing among giants of sunflowers, / Bright pumpkins growing at my feet. / Crows caw and leaves float on the breeze, / Old green tractor chugs a lively beat. Children sweetly laughed into my hair, / Sticky hands with fresh straw to stuff. / Vintage clothes & buttons bound me now, / Soft cotton flannel is plenty warm enough. I may be made to look scary to a bird, / But really, aren’t I quite nice and smart? / Take this leather gloved hand to hold, / I am not fake, this body has a heart. Dorothy knew me, that courageous Lion too. / So, see my face and know I feel, / for in the mind of a child… / I become real. Best on Full Size Wandering around my cousin’s farm in Davidsonville, Maryland, I fell in love with so many images. This was taken from the inside of an old tobacco barn which we calculate to be well over a hundred years old. This image is a compilation of two shots, both my own. The barn image, RAW, taken on my Manfrotto tripod, was shot on a disappointingly gray and overcast October 29, 2009 with the Nikon D300. Shutter 1/500, aperture 5/11.0, exp 0.00, iso 1600. Sky image, a hand held jpeg, was taken August 29, 2009 with the Nikon D300, shutter 1/640, aperture f/13, exp -.67, iso 400. Lens was 18-200mm vr Nikon in both cases. After the image was combined, I created an hdr in Photomatix by duplicating the jpeg to evals of +1 and -2 in Photoshop. Lots of Photoshop tweaking including addition of 2 textures. Also available without texture: /
