This is a collaboration of myself and the very talented photographer Kenneth Fugate. I approached Ken today when I saw his skyscape piece titled “Light”. I just thought it was stunning!! He agreed and sent me the photo. I’m VERY VERY PROUD of this piece. It was again inspired by the passion I have for birds of prey; they are just such magnificent birds to me!! This is a combination of two photos My red-tailed hawk and Kenneth Fugate’s skyscape This red-tailed hawk was in captivity due to a permanent injury. I’ve used PS to merge the two photos. The inspiration for this piece has come from a responsibility I feel I have … to HELP protect our beautiful resources in nature and my love for admiring and creating ART. I hope you like it Ken :-) I absolutely LOVE it!! / ; /

The Herdwick is a traditional breed of domestic sheep native to the mountainous Lake District of Cumbria in North West England. The name “Herdwick” is derived from the Old Norse herdvyck. It means “sheep pasture” and is recorded in documents dating back to the 12th century. The origin of the breed itself is unknown, but the most common theory is that the ancestors of Herdwick sheep were introduced by early Norse settlers. In the latter half of her life, the childrens author Beatrix Potter was involved with keeping and breeding Herdwicks, even acting as president of the breed association for a time. Between 1930 and 1938 she won a number of prizes for Herdwick ewes at shows across Cumbria. Upon her death in 1943, she bequeathed 15 farms – approximately a total sum of 4,000 acres to the National Trust, and per her instructions all continue to graze Herdwick flocks.

Ok, before I get loads of comments – I WAS one! I left 8 years ago because I was sick and tired of always saying ‘NO’ to people. I threw the rule book out of the window and now I’m on the ‘other side’ working as an advocate for the ones who need it. I know you’re just doing a job and we all have bills to pay but please….have some compassion.

He is a brilliant children’s author / Brian Jacques (pronounced “jakes”) was born in Liverpool, England on June 15th, 1939. Along with forty percent of the population of Liverpool, his ancestral roots are in Ireland, County Cork to be exact. / Mr. Jacques wrote Redwall for the children at the Royal Wavertree School for the Blind in Liverpool, where as a truck driver, he delivered milk. His style of writing is very descriptive, because of the nature of his first audience, for whom he painted pictures with words, so that they could see them in their imaginations. (He remains a patron of the school.) / His writing gained acclaim when Alan Durband, his childhood English teacher, read Redwall, and showed it to a publisher without telling Brian. This event led to a contract for the first five books in the Redwall series. / See the details of the rest of his Redwall series http://www.redwall.org/

While this work in traditional representational style is depicting a beautiful country scene in early morning light, it is designed to be a comment on two common responses humans have when we are gifted with something… / – 1. We can lock it away for exclusive use by those who control ‘the keys’ / – 2. We can treat it with respect and see ourselves as compassionate stewards who care for it and share it. This raises the question of what is legitimate authority of course…
