Bodie began as a mining camp of little note following the discovery of gold in 1859 by prospector W. S. Bodey (also spelled Body). That November, Bodey perished in a blizzard after making a supply trip to nearby Monoville.[1] In 1876, the Standard Company discovered a profitable deposit of gold bearing ore, which transformed Bodie from an isolated mining camp comprising a few prospectors and company employees to a Wild West boomtown. Rich discoveries in the adjacent Bodie Mine during 1878 attracted even more hopeful people. By 1880, Bodie boasted a population of nearly 10,000. Over the years, Bodie’s mines produced gold valued at more than $34 million.[2] As a bustling gold mining center, Bodie had the amenities of larger towns, including two banks, a brass band, railroad, miner’s and mechanic’s unions, several newspapers, and a jail. At its peak 65 saloons lined Main Street, which was a mile long. Murders, shootouts, barroom brawls, and stagecoach holdups were regular occurrences.[3] Legend has it that a little girl, upon learning that her family was moving there, prayed one night, “Goodbye God, we are going to Bodie.”[4] But a local editor claimed she had really prayed, “Good! By God, we are going to Bodie.” Gold bullion from the town’s nine stamp mills was shipped to Carson City, Nevada by way of Aurora, Wellington and Gardnerville. Most shipments were accompanied by an armed guard. Once the bullion reached Carson City, it was delivered to the mint or sent by rail to the mint in San Francisco.

This was taken in the Druze settlement of Majdal Shams, which is located on the Hermon Mountain inthe north of Israel. A very authentic place with a lot of culture and history to it. / The Druze people speak Arabic and Hebrew (The Druze who live in israel) and if you know or not, Hebrew is the main language in Israel. That is Old Fashioned Hebrew writing on the board in the image. / This lady was making a Druze Pita bread on the spot! it’s very tasty i assure you… / (Believe it or not, this is the second photo i ever edited! Using photoshop CS3 i adjusted the shadow exposure inside the booth so you could have a glance of the lady making the Pita, and adjusted a little more color to it since the sun burnt the colors.) / Share your thoughts on the image, and of the treatment. :)

What would happen if we actually finally let ourselves out of the box? Let go of that last mask and find out. I found this writing today that I did a few months ago and thought it was rather appropriate. “Holding on to the last mask” / I find it very interesting, we do not really share the dark parts of who we are. We hide them and suffer them in silence. Even with our best friends we do not share. We may talk about if after we have survived it. However we suffer it in silence. We keep it to ourselves as if we do not want to inflict our pain on those we love. And yet they feel our pain whether we share it or not. If they really know us, it becomes obvious. Why can we not share as we are experiencing it? Is it vanity? I don’t want you to see me cry or in distress? Or is it that it is too precious a part of our soul that we cannot share it- only after the moment is passed and the walls of protection are back in place, and our soft sweet center is safe from any possible harm, even from those who love us. It is our culture as strong women we cannot let our vulnerability show. It is too painful and too scary. / And yet I wonder if we are not able to share this vulnerability can we really be shed of all of our masks? Can we be really authentic? If all we can share is our happy and positive side or aspects how can we be real with each other? No one is perfect and we know that. We know that because we all experience it in the darkness of the night. When we are alone. Sometimes it is like a blanket covering us. Protecting us from what might be- an even harder truth. I maybe safe in my own pain, it is my own reality and that in it self can be comforting. / Graphite, colored pencil and metallic watercolor on alpharag mat board, 2008 / copyright

Rhyll is a fishing town situated on the east side of Phillip Island. Early morning the professional fishermen take off in to the icy waters of Westernport Bay and out in to the Bass Strait to catch their livelihood. At 7am, the lads were loading the boats and setting out for the journey. Phillip Island has become noticeably more populated in the last few years, with trendier and trendier holiday houses popping up in its tiny villages. However the essence of the island remains the same. The same friendliness, authenticity and toughness I used to witness as a kid coming here for the first 21 Christmases of my life still thrives. This is a raw land, with rugged coastline, pristine beaches and tough, wind tolerant coastal plants. It has a soul. Nikon D3 / 17-35mm 2.8 / Tripod
Why do we love old sheds? Is it because we know one day we too will be dilapidated? Is it because we yearn for older, simpler days (if indeed they ever were simpler, which I doubt)...or is it a latent respect for the elderly? / Whatever it is, I love ‘em. the texture, the colours, the stoicism… / Took this at Phillip Island, Victoria. My school had a day where we had to dress up in clothes from a protest era, there were many brilliant out fits put together from hippies, to communists to Apartheid protesters. My friend dressed up as a hippie and she was so colourful and covered in jewelry i had to get a shot. The colours and handmade top with all the jewelry made me think of the quote b Jackson Pollock, It doesn’t matter how the paint is put on, as long as something is said Model: Claudi Featured In Peace Love & Happiness Hippies
The gentle winds of time…
This is the first thing of the day for over 75% of us. Coffee is prepared from roasted seeds, commonly called coffee beans, of the coffee plant. Coffee contains caffeine which can have a stimulating effect in humans. A number of recent studies suggest that coffee can be a highly beneficial drink. Researchers suggest that there is strong evidence which makes states that coffee reduces the risk of several serious ailments, including diabetes, heart disease and cirrhosis of the liver. Whatever I need that one cup each morning and I am happy, also I just love the smell.
