Two farmers having a chat, oblivious to the fact that they are taking up most of the road. I gained inspiration for this original drawing from the area where I live – roads out here tend to run in straight lines to the far horizon. This is a familiar scene in outback Australia with a brown dusty landscape and telephone poles that march off to nowhere. I used a combination of pen and ink, plus pastel tones smudged in the sky area.

Cowhands come to town, perhaps a trifle stiff legged after all day on horseback. Those who spend some time in the saddle will know the feeling ! In this composition, I used a splatter technique, plus smudged pastel tones along with pen and ink.

An essential part of outback life is the school bus making its way along isolated roads to bring children from properties into town for their education. In this original drawing, a pen and ink technique plus colour wash has been used – with the familiar elements of mailboxes, windmills and a country road.

Just like some of my other paintings, this one captures the ‘Aussie Country Girl’ in me as well as my love for color. Bought together by my imagination and ability to work a paint brush I have painted this onto a canvas 30cm X 90cm using acrylic paints. these small works on card are for friends going back overseas to live, to remind them of us here in oz. they were made small and light to fit easily into baggage, using typical Australian colours-the blue of the summer sky, to yellows of the sand and the oranges of the outback desert. (though I doubt they remind anyone of us of the outback-we never see that colour earth in the city!) more, it’s about the pace of life and vibrancy of living.
