St Augustine Florida Lighthouse watercolor painting by artist Derek McCrea
/ Shot laying on floor under stairs at the St. Augustine lighthouse.
Sunlight pours through the doorway of a room in the old Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, FL. / A bastion of the largest empire ever created, the Castillo was built to protect and defend Spain’s claims in the New World. Though caught in the whirlwinds of colonial warfare and intrigue, it was never defeated in battle. Its scarred walls still stand witness to over 330 years of history and culture. “The cardinal virtues were derived initially from Plato’s scheme which also includes piety (hosiotes)) and adapted by Saint Ambrose, Augustine of Hippo, and Thomas Aquinas (see Summa Theologica). The term “cardinal” comes from the Latin cardo or hinge; the cardinal virtues are so called because they are hinges upon which the door of the moral life swings.” (Wikipedia Encyclopedia)
The Saint Augustine Church at Merewether, a suburb of Newcastle. An Anglican Church that was built in 1889. I applied a few filters and added a more cloud-filled and visually interesting sky.

St Augustine’s Church, Derry City, Northern Ireland. This is the lovely St Augustine’s church, situated on the Walls of Derry. There has been a church on this site since St Columba built a monastery here in 546 AD The present church dates from 1871, when the previous building was considered unsafe. / In the background, you can see the spire of St Columb’s Cathedral. “Info”:http://www.btinternet.com/~st.augustinehistory.htm Canon EOS 450D, 18-55mm lens, HDR and Orton effect applied.
Featured in Going Coastal on June 17, 2009 / Featured in All Around Florida on June 26, 2009 / Placed 6th in Florida, the Sunshine State “Florida Lighthouses” challenge on Oct. 11. 2009 Did you know that high winds are a factor when you visit a lighthouse? On this day, May 9, 2007, we were only allowed to step out on the top platform a few visitors at a time. We were NOT allowed to circle the top due to 55 mph winds. This doesn’t sound like too much, but apparently it is, and a guard was posted to enforce this restriction. It was frustrating to me, though some chose not to venture outside at all! / This lighthouse is in St. Augustine, Florida. / Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm, F/13.0, 1/400 sec, ISO 400. /

FEATURED IN “THE FLORIDA SUNSHINE STATE” GROUP / Charoltte St. in Old St. Augustine, FL / June, 2009 / Kodak Z712 – cropped and color altered / Saint Augustine Florida is the oldest European city in the United States. The area was first visited by Ponce de Leon in 1513, but it was Juan Menendez de Aviles who established the first settlement, almost half a century before the first English settlers landed at Jamestown. St. Augustine grew to become the Spanish center of power in North America for almost 200 years.
Spanish Quarter Village in St Augustine Florida USA recreates colonial history in this town that was founded in 1565. I captured this scene with my K-M DiMage A2 in April 2007. This 1 1/2 acre, 9 building living history museum brings to life the daily activities of Spanish colonial life in a garrison town. Blacksmithing, woodworking, cooking, gardening, and netmaking are just some of the trades represented as you travel through time visiting the homes of Saint Augustine’s early resident families. <>—-—-<>—-—-<>—-—-<>—-—-<>—-—-<>—-—-<>—-—-<> See my monochrome work here

St. Augustine is the county seat of St. Johns County, Florida, in the United States. Founded in 1565, it is the oldest continuously occupied European established city, and the oldest port, in the continental United States.[1] St. Augustine lies in a region of Florida known as The First Coast, which extends from Amelia Island in the north, south to Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Palm Coast. The Lighthouse in Saint Augustine, Florida.
We took this while standing on a little bridge overlooking the marsh. We were at the Alligator Farm in Saint Augustine, Florida. This alligator was lying in the mud below us. His head was under the bridge and his feet were buried in the mud… which led us to this semi-abstract image of the skin. We played with the color on Photoshop to make it monotone.
