Cape Leeuwin National Park lies 5 km south of the township of Augusta on the Western Australian south coast.
Our trip to Augusta recently in the far south of W.A. and we found some beautiful calm waters in the morning. I have added some colour to this black and white pic. :B+)

An old padlock on a door to an old chest in a small historical display in Augusta, Western Australia. Taken on holdiay March 2008. I loved the ancient look to the padlock with the bumps all over it.
This is a water colour painting of my ancestor James Turner who came out to Australia as a free settler in 1830 bringing his family and workers, and animals(including rabbits!) and his prefabricated house(!) with him! / In London he had been a prosperous builder and had been promised land at Freemantle but when they got there all the land had been given away to the friends / of the people in charge of the state so he ended up having to settle at Augusta about 300 miles south of Perth. / His diary on the ship they came out on is in the Battye Library and there are other diaries about what occurred when they settled in Augusta. The story has always fascinated me.
This was painted from a sketch and photograph back home after returning while travelling on a healing journey from Qld to Alice Springs in 2002 Instead of going on a ‘proper;’holiday after a traumatic few years I decided I just had to see the Centre of our beautiful country …so …we just jumped into the car, 4×4 and slept in the back ,cooking with one frypan over a small gas fire rested on the tailboard ,most times I slept on the ground next to the car bcause i didn’t like being confined. Luckily no mozzies appeared. A Gum Tree for Shallay
This is another in the series I have done about my ancestors—James and Thomas Turner and their families who pioneered Augusta in Western Australia in the 1830s.
This garden temple at Kew Gardens was designed by Sir William Chambers for Princess Augusta and built in 1760. It takes its name from Bellona, the Roman goddess of war and companion of the god Mars. The interior is decorated with plaques displaying the names and numbers of British and Hanoverian regiments which distinguished themselves in the Seven Years War, (1756 – 1763). / /
8×10 Pastel Sketch. Done in Rembrandt pastels on Strathmore, Bristol, vellum finished , heavy weight and acid free paper. / This is one of my husbands favorite golf shots!! So of course, he was after me to sketch it. I finally decided to do so and I love it!!! Hope you do to!! / /

I love lighthouses, they are a reminder of a time before GPS, reliable radio and many other technologies that we take for granted these days.. All comments appreciated - paul http://www.paulmp.com.au
