In life as well as fishing it’s all about the journey! / As the sunrise burned through the fog early Sunday morning, on Clear Lake near Hunstville, Ontario, two fishermen enthusiastically set out for their favourite fishing spot… / This shot was as a result of an early morning walk in / August 2008 in the fog: part planning, part serendipity. I particularly like the fact that compared to a lot of fog shots it displays color, to I think, an advantage and shows the promise of a beautiful sunny summer day emerging… Nikon D40, Nikkor 18-55mm lens Top Ten in the Journey or Destination challenge for the First Things group, July 2009 / Featured in the Outsiders, March 2009 / Featured in Canada: The Great White North group September 2008 / Featured in the Nirvana group September 2008 / Avatar for Shots In The Fog group October 2008 / Featured in the ImageWriting group November 2008 / Featured in the 100% group. Sony H5 with M3358 close up lens. Cropped back from 3072×2304 to 1808×1360 and rotated it for better viewing. Yes I know I can up-size it back to 3072×2304 but that way you loose image quality IMO. Hence only available as card or matted print. If anybody wants the original shot or an up-sized version let me know. / / Have a look at my other photos. We had an eclipse of the moon the other night. / So I thought I would try to fly to it. But the clouds got in my way, and I lost direction. / Well this is the result after a play with PhotoImpact.
Another beautiful car from the 2008 Hot August Nights. I’m off today to find more of these and to visit my brand new grandson. Should be a really good day. Nikon D50, 24-85mm.
Taken on an early morning in August 2007, this picture is one of the most popular ones of my jchanders-gallery on deviantArt. So it is high time to share it with you here, too. In the weeks to come I shall do so with those top-shots of my three galleries over there which you do not know yet. After all they are certainly also worth your attention. Again this shot was taken on the grounds of the country-house Groeneveld near Baarn, the wonderful scene of so many of my pictures. Groeneveld, 1st August 2007, 6.24 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 50 / F 11, 1/60, ISO 200 Here a later sunrise shot of the same scene, taken earlier in the year though in April 2009. So the sun rises further to the right (=the south):

RB’s challenge “Substance of things not seen” inspired many questions of how to convey and/or observe what we cannot see, let alone create a piece of art. / Then, while listening to our CD player shuffle, this song played…Colors of the Wind / You think you own whatever land you land on / Earth is just a dead thing you can claim / But I know every rock and tree and creature / Has a life, has a spirit, has a name / You think the only people who are people / Are the people who look and think like you / But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger / You learn things you never knew / You never knew / Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? / Or ask the grinning bobcat why he grinned / Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains? / Can you paint with all the colors of the wind? / Can you paint with all the colors of the wind? / Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest / Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth / Come roll in all the riches all around you / And for once never wonder what they’re worth / The rainstorm and the river are my brothers / And the heron and the otter are my friends / And we are all connected to each other / In a circle in a hoop that never ends / Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? / or let the eagle tell you where hes been / can you sing with all the voices of the mountain / can you paint with all the colors of the wind / can you paint with all the colors of the wind / How high does the sycamore grow / If you cut it down, then you’ll never know / And you’ll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon / For whether we are white or copper – skinned / We just sing with all the voices of the mountain / Need to paint with all the colors of the wind / You can own the earth and still / All you’ll own is earth until / You can paint with all colors of the wind. Not leaving well enough alone, I ventured into googling and found an amazing photograph (hven.swarthmore.edu) of a Wind Bubble and began searching more of the Stellar Winds ~ this all seemed to fit, so I sketched a female figure being blown by the wind and layered it atop the Wind Bubble, editing a little more with the Redfield fractilius plug-in to bring the force of the wind alive with evidence of its power, though unseen… “Thought is the Wind, knowledge the sail, and mankind the vessel. ” August Hare

Cradle in Winter. This shot as taken on August 4 2008, with a canon 400d.
7.30 pm, August 15th, 2005, the evening which changed my life and damaged my bank balance. / I’d gone to Wheatlands, a wonderful privately owned, but open to the public nature reserve near York. / I had a camera, hardly used and then only on full automatic. I had no idea how to work the wretched thing, it was all a mysterious mystery. / Then Joy Jones showed me an image, still within her camera. / It looked like a blade of grass – until she gradually expanded it, revealing masses of insect eggs. I was HOOKED. / Eventually I learned to use the macro settings. / The world of the tiny opened up to me. I began to SEE when I looked. Things I hadn’t noticed leapt out and screamed for attention. Two months later, on October 14th 2005, I took this photo of a bee feeding on a bramble blossom. I hadn’t realised how exquisitely beautiful a bee’s face is, how complex, the textures, shapes and colours. I was HOOKED. / Then there was the fly blowing a bubble. Why? How did he do it? Do ALL flies do this? What about other insects? / And just exactly which fly, wasp, bee, hoverfly have I captured on camera? Things to learn, books to buy. I was HOOKED. / Over the years, many subjects have claimed my attention & interest, none have snared me in quite the same way, so deeply. Most have been passing fads. This is serious. / I don’t understand any of the technical twiddly bits. My “technique” is still point, click, view, hope, delete – sometimes it works. But I have fun, great fun. / Some one told me macro photography is the easiest form. That may well be true, but what a wonderful world is revealed. / I have met delightful people, some in reality, many online. Some have become dear friends, precious beyond words. You know who you are. / Joy had no idea what she was starting three years ago, neither had I, but: I AM HOOKED. / 150808

August 6th, 2003 / On the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima (August 6th), they hold a ceremony in which lanterns are sent floating along the Motoyasu-gawa River, in front of the A-bomb Dome. The lanterns used to float out to ocean. Nowadays they are caught down river for environmental reasons. This is done in remembrance of those whose lives were lost and in hopes that all nuclear weapons will be destroyed. I arrived in Hiroshima a bit late on the 6th so unfortunately I missed of the action around the Peace Park but there had been speeches and demonstrations. The floating of the lanterns lasted for 3 hours. / It was a somber evening and a beautiful expression in the struggle for the worldwide disarmament of nuclear weapons, if not world peace and a clear reminder of what the opposite can lead to.

Sunrise on Clear Lake, Huntsville, Ontario CANADA through a dense fog. Standing on the dock and hearing total silence with an obscured view was quite an experience.
