  • Automaton, Kiss Me Soft
    by Gordon Merrick Justice

I feel like this was built for me: bolder and more virile / He will defend me, let me take a fall, or a little of both

  • Only Skin Deep
    by Gordon Merrick Justice

That night I hurt myself again. / With no physical wounds to show

The gay… no, the entire population is so centered on physical beauty these days, it is easy to assume it to be all that is required. But what of those who wish to converse…? As for my own preferences, give me a good conversation over sex ANY DAY. There is nothing more attractive than a give and take or a cool-headed debate.

  • Just In case You Forgot
    by Charissa May Borroff

Just In case you forgot or just didn’t see / What about that old spectre …

Before my Nanny (Gorgina) Borroff completely lost her ability to speak because of vascular dementia. She fought hard to get across her meaning. It has been heartbreaking trying to try to pick up on what she wanted to say with seemingly random words with desperation. somtimes it felt like if I looked hard enough her efforts felt profound. / strangely after a poetry workshop at her day centre everything she said from that point was then carried with a poetic rythm. similar to the rythm I fell into writing this. I hope I have passed on the meaning I found in her, all of my family and friends and the places I love. This is my first attempt at poetry so please bare with me. Just really had to get something off my chest. You may have noticed that it’s changed a little bit since it first went up but I think I’m done now. I dare you to google an Oil Beetle, it’s not for the faint hearted.

When I joined RB in 2008, I was looking at groups to join I found the Six Word Story group, disbanded I fear, which started me on the writing experience…this poem started as a six word story in my mind but was unable to create the atmophere in just six words..so it grew, and now have developed a new passion other than photography, of writing… / I have collaborated with David Petranker and he very kindly agreed for me to use his picture; Always on My Mind to go along side this poem. I welcome critical reviews of my work…please bubble me if you have any constructive comments….

The theme for my son Eric’s first grade graduation was Bonsais. The teacher asked for a few poems and then one especially to go with the theme. Since I had some Bonsais and they were my pride and joy, I was ready to start writing until she told me something that struck me dead to my fee. She said, “When you write this poem, think of the children as Bonsais.” So, this is the message I got through with the Bonsai.
