This was an interpretation of the lyrics to the 1920’s Louis Armstrong song, Black and Blue. Essentially it is about racism and division. The little girl is looking at what she will probably never obtain. / It is a mixture of watercolour, ink, pen and collage.
Reflecting on the male form and the rich, diverse history of its representation in art among other things. Life reflecting art?

I look upon this stage, and my future glares right back. / Shall I become as right before me, / Or non descript amongst the pack? / The stars I wish to reach for burn bright right in my face, / I wonder do I wonder am I yet to take their place? / For shining very brightly one must first commence to light, / And I do this very slowly a new position every night. / For starlight is not what is now it comes from back in time, / It takes more than just one night to make a star to shine. Time in Hong Kong went really fast. Time for photos was limited. This is one hectic modern city, filled with an amazing number of people, living, surviving and dreaming together, closer than one can imagine. Hence when you look at the shot all the little lights represent someones dream, their aspirations, their life…. Photo Taken: 28-Oct-2007 / Time: 6:30pm / Conditions: Hazy, warm night in Hong Kong / / / / / / / / / / Some other art taken in Hong Kong: / / / / / /

By the summer it was healing / We had said goodbye / All the years we’d spent with feeling / Ended with a cry…” (Neil Young)
Well as I was saying in my journal, I haven’t been around for the most part of th winter as I needed a break and mostly cause work kept me pretty busy so I didn’t have much time to shot and when I did have my camera, it was around events that we put on such as this one. This shot was taken during one of our Slopestyle event here in Whistler where the kids try to showcase their talent on various features (jumps, rails). Shot taken with my Canon Xt, 70-200mm lens Cheers

In the reflection of Lake McKenzie. A friend and I chose to spend our Easter weekend on the Routeburn Track, one of the “Great Walks” in New Zealand. We had three days on the trail and two nights in a tent, camping in some of the most pristine spots in NZ. This image was taken at dawn, just a short walk away from where we were camping.

If a butterfly can flap its wings a thousand times a minute to reach its destinations, imagine what you can do! (Author unknown) The monarch butterfly on a bed of phlox is a lovely scene from my mother’s garden. The phlox were cuttings taken from the garden of my mentor during my practice teaching days in college over 30 years ago. Dear old Mrs. Branton who gave me the cuttings has long since passed away, but her flowers live on and so do the memories I have of her. She was a great inspiration to me and she would have approved of the sentiment on this image!
An assignment that addresses the theme ‘Utopia’. For most people it means fantasy, but I have attempted to address it in my own light, because I believe life is the real utopia… and I hope you can see that through my hybrid of visual and textual language.
