A Stormy Autumn Colorado’s Longs Peak shrouded in Autumn thunderstorm clouds, stands towering above the quaking Aspen below. This scene was really something to see….the atmosphere was just to die for. The way the contrast played out with the yellow and gold Aspens against that dark sky was astonishing, the light was really changing fast so I had to be fairly quick while shooting this. Processed in HDR, let me know what ya all think! / —-John
Autumn Travels Shot in Alluvial Fan area of Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado What a scene that just glowed…and I mean GLOWED. It made your jaw just drop open. I am fortunate in that no one else was there, and was lucky to be able to take about 100 shots of this scene alone, playing with composition and such, and custom white balance settings, and in this one, something similar to a sunset setting was used. Let me know what ya think! Can ya hear the rustling of the leaves?? / —-John
The Aspen Stand This shot got some really good feedback over on FredMiranda.com so I thought that I would go ahead and share it with you all here as well. Photographed in Rocky Mountain National Park, this is the type of Fall Aspen shot I have wanted, but for some reason, whenever I have shot these kinds of shots in the past, they just never really have come out. Well, I think it did this time. It is almost to much of an iconic Colorado in Autumn photo, but I think one thing makes this one stand out from others. The lines. If you notice the black areas of the bark on the Aspen, that is actually where the Elk have eaten away at the bark. However, I like how it creates the line from left to right, going up higher as it goes to the right. I didn’t even notice this until I was processing the shot, and I suppose you can blame that on negative space. I suppose you can say that I am happy with the shot, I finally got the Autumn image I have always wanted. For those of you who don’t know how beautiful the Colorado Aspen’s are in Autumn, just ask Judy, she will be glad to tell ya! Let me know what ya think! / —-John
Based on the campaign poster for Hunter S Thompsons run for sheriff in Aspen. A two thumbed red hand holding a peyote. Has a distressed effect I have one of these myself and it turned out spiffing I must say.
Canon 40d / A little orton effect. /
This lake is located in Black Forest, Colorado. The mountain peak in the background is Pikes Peak, ele. 14,110 ft. A storm was approaching from the mountain. The trees that are changing are called “aspens.”
Highway 72 outside the Town of Warn in Colorado. Sawtooth Peak takes the skyline and the Autumn color comes alive.
We had a very bad rain and windstorm last night, a lot of thunder & lightning that woke me up from a sound sleep. This morning our deck was covered in Aspen leaves and this is one of them. : ) / Added a touch of HDR, Softened a bit and focal color. / Kodak Z650 EasyShare Digital / / /
Shot as 5 images and stiched for higher def. Canon 40d /
A path between the Aspen Groves. I loved this fence and the strong lines. The fence runs diagonal through the shot with the Aspen trees running verticle and the shadows from the fence running horizontal. Taken in Telluride, Colorado. /
Taken near Telluride, Colorado. A country road led me to this hillside that had a row of Aspen trees glowing with their golden leaves. A small lone cloud appeared almost as if to dot the “i”. /
