  • After an early summer thunderstorm, the sky cleared and gave way to a crisp beautifully lit night. The water puddles were reflecting the gorgeous structure and light of the surrounding temple.

  • The sun in Asakusa, Japan. The famous for the Sensō-ji, a Buddhist temple dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon. It is Tokyo’s oldest temple. According to legend, a statue of the Kannon was found in the Sumida River in 628 by two fishermen, the brothers Hinokuma Hamanari and Hinokuma Takenari. The chief of their village, Hajino Nakamoto, recognized the sanctity of the statue and enshrined it by remodeling his own house into a small temple in Asakusa, so that the villagers could worship the Kannon. The blessings of the Kannon gradually received a high reputation throughout Japan, and people near and far flocked to Asakusa to venerate the statue. During World War II, the temple was bombed and for the most part destroyed. It was rebuilt later and is a symbol of rebirth and peace to the Japanese people. In the courtyard there is a tree that was hit by a bomb in the air raids, it had regrown in the husk of the old tree and is a similar symbol to the temple itself. Just an intentionally underexposed shot done in black and white. /

  • This was captured on a busy day in the Asakusa street markets in Tokyo, Japan. The main subject in the shot happened to turn as I fired the shutter. He happened to catch my eye as I caught his. Totally unplanned and goes to show that some of the best shots can occur when least expected.

  • Asakusa, Tokyo. !

  • Visitors to the main shrine in Asakusa use the water to cleanse their hands and mouth before entering the shrine.

  • The beauty of cosmos with the bokeh of night-time, just off the famous Nakamise street in Asakusa.

  • Just some strips of Japanese paper hanging outside a shop in Asakusa. But soooo pretty….

  • I was walking the streets in Asakusa, teaching one of my photography students, when we saw two cats, one sleeping under the vending machine and another wandering on the pavement. My student said ‘Oh, wow, there’s another’ and sure enough, this fella was just sat in the doorway. Looking a bit like a Vermeer painting.
