I'll Tell Ya Something That I've Found...the World's a Better Place When It's Upside Down
by JMCoppingThis is a small painting, just 27.5×19.2. You can see hints of the initial earthy layer of egg tempera I’ve used as a base colour on top of this I’ve worked up the image in many layers using glazes of oil paint. The image is based on an imagining. Thematically I was hoping to emphasise different/opposing areas. For such a small painting it can be divided into five sections; between the sky, the mountains, the sea, the sunken structure, and the land. This creates a strong sense of divide but at the same time there is a strong sense of tranquillity and beauty to the painting.
