My very first semi – annual art show. I’m so excited and extreemly scared all at once. I just want people to love and appreciate my art as much as I do. I’ve noticed that alot of people tend to gravitate to paintings more then actual photography and that makes me a lil nervous about what I do. Anyway I think I just wanted to let that out of my system…either way I’m ready to change the mold that “others” have created. I know that “MY SUCCESS IS BASED ON HOW I DEVINELY WILL GREATNESS INTO MY EXISISTANCE”. Thank you guys so much for your comments and support on my work. It gives me the confidence to press forward in what i am most passionate about and thats capturing moments so they may stand still in time and forever be remembered! ShanyBW

Those who ‘know’ me here, know I was away last Easter about this time. When I came back, I had said I was at a writers Convention (SwanCon). Well, I am at that convention again, but this time, I entered the art show. Three of my Assassin’s Guild: series, and two of my “experiments in shadows and candlelight.” All three of the Guild photographs have been bid on, and I have definite interest in the “Crystal Alignment” There is a world of difference between selling your art here, or on other stock photo sites, and putting your face out there, where people actually know you. I had butterflies the size of pteradons. Part of me still thinks my stuff is ‘meh’, but hubby says I am way too critical of myself.

All three of my “Assassins’ Guild” series sold, as did “Crystal Conjunction”. Someone who was a guest at the writers’ convention voiced how much he liked the dragon goblet photograph ended up having it gifted to him, signed by the ‘artist’. After the art show, I was approached and asked for another set of the Assassins Guild. Will have to get them printed out and mailed off to the buyer this weekend.

Wow! It’s been a super long time since I’ve posted a blog. Hello, citizens of Mandiland!!! How have you all been??? Things have been wonderful on this end of the spectrum, I must say. I’m still enjoying my job and working my ass off. Lol. When I’m not working I’m usually hanging out with Christy who has been a great, big ray of sunshine in my life. I’m so happy that we are friends. I miss Constance greatly, but I know she’s happy spending time with her man and that makes me happy to know that. I’m always here if she needs me and I think she knows that, but I think her heart’s in good hands. How can I not be happy with I know she’s got all the love she needs? I miss Mary too, but she’s been busy roaming with the Blue Eclipse so I know she’s happy too. I mean, she’s living her dream of being with friends who are in a band and taking pictures of their shows and enjoying their music. How could she not be happy? I’m still working on my book so it looks like it won’t be done by the July 12th Grinder. Oh well. It’s better to take my time and make sure it’s 100% Mandi approved before I publish it. However, there will be plenty of great things to purchase at the next Grinder. I will have glossy prints of both my pinups and my artwork. There will, of course, be some originals as well for sale. I will also have three different designs of button for sale and I’m looking into getting t-shirts made too. AND I will also have some glossy stickers for sale too. So there will be lots of Mandi goodness even though the book is still a work in progress. I will say that no matter how long it takes for me to finish the book, it will be worth the wait. It will be like I ate Tim Burton on the Day of the Dead and threw up this book. I realize that doesn’t sound appealing (lmao) but it will be morbidly humorous and vividly macabre. I think my sick, twisted friends will like it. So everyone should mark your calendars for July 12th so you can come to the Grinder and check out my table and maybe (hopefully) purchase some merchandise. Well, that is if you’re in the Lafayette, Louisiana area. I guess that’s it for now, but I hope you all are having wonderful days and kickass nights and (as always) until later… ...xoxo.

I didn’t win, but it got an honorable mention on “Alien Offering” from Richard K. Morgan’s reaction to it. He said it amazed and disturbed him as it clearly showed the ‘contact’ that was the convention theme. But he didn’t know if the gift was a good thing or not. Then I explained to him that when the art was registered for the show, there was a glitch and the description was removed from the entry forms the show printed out. “Alien Offering” A gift or the destruction of mankind. When I told him that, he said I nailed it perfectly. He really liked it, so I offered to sign it, and give it to him. He gleefully said yes.

Sorry to keep being so absent. The art show now has a date, 11 Oct. Will be me & a few others showing & selling. i have over 200 pieces, some are the framed paintings (well, most are colored pencil drawings) with the buttons for frames, a lot are just mounted on firmer paper, also out of my art i made a ton of greeting cards, i glued my art down to greeting card paper stock, complete with envelopes, & i also used the old fashioned cassette tape plastic cases into frames. i reduced several of my art & glued these inside, & on the back put a string to hang on the wall. All my art is ready to go. Still might have to make the food (Vegan sausages & Vegan crackers), but a group called “Food Not Bombs” may cater. They are an activist group that generally feeds the homeless and hungry. One of the woman showing with me works with Food Not Bombs & is going to ask if they will cater. They do catering to big events, like Animal Rights conferences, etc. Also will have sparkling cider & hoping to get plastic champagne glasses for these, hee hee, like they do in upscale art galleries. Also hoping to have a friend play his guitar, & Arnie’s son may join him. He also sells musical instruments & will have those at the show, too. And since last week i have been going to & from Oakland, Ca (about 70 miles from where i live) to protest at ringling brothers circus, regarding the abuse the Animals endure. Mostly for the Elephants, but the Tigers, Horses, Etc. You can check out here: https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=2359 This week, starting today, i’ll be going back & forth to San Jose (a little farther than Oakland), from Thursday til Sunday. The great part is i found a friend who lives near me, has a mini van, & we go together. i don’t drive, the busses are killer expensive, plus it would take 50 times longer to get there & back. Then next Tuesday i’ll take the greyhound bus to Sacramento where ringling brothers will be again, i’ll be there from Tuesday til late Sunday. / Another activist has a room reserved from Wed til Sunday. i have to leave on Tuesday in order to be there in time for the events on Wed. my first real trip in a loooong time. Can’t afford it, but i’m going anyway, for the Elephants, Tigers, Horses Love & Huggggs to you all pinkyjain, :O))))))))))

  • Here is the invitation. Only a week away, this coming Sunday. Fine tuning things, still have a mess of Vegan sausages & Vegan crackers to make. Hoping to pop in next week afterwards, lol, i will need a little break b4 all the Animal demonstrations begin. Lots going on, National Primate Liberation Week is the middle of Oct, among other things. And if i’m not working by Nov, going to take a real vacation, actually fly in an airplane, woooo hooo, all the way to Pennsylvania to visit a couple friends. Hoping to go for a week

Whewwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In a couple hours i’ll be packing Arnie’s car with all my art & food supplies. Hope it all fits, Lol. i made the Vegan sausages on Thursday, yummylicious, & for 3 hours yesterday i made my first ever crackers, flax seed crackers. The first batch looked a bit like lumpy cookies, so i thinned out the next batches. But they taste really good, even Arnie, my usual food tester, said so. Whewwwwwww!!!!!!!!! Expecting over 100 guests, so i’m hoping the food lasts all day. my other art mate is bringing food, too, & a few friends are bringing things. The only thing i couldn’t find were the plastic champagne glasses. i just thought that would look classy, lol, like being at a real art show in a museum. / And i hope people like our art, :O))))) / i will take photos & post them later this week. / Plus i’m hoping my life slows down a bit & can come and see everyone here again & your beautiful Friendship and art.

“The Pink Show” was held on October 1st Art Hop @ Chris Sorensen’s gallery on Van Ness. The show was beautiful and the turnout was great, all of the pink and purple artworks were so gorgeous! I don’t know yet if my piece sold…if it does a portion of the proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research. I also just found out that my painting will be on the cover of the KVPR Audiophile magazine, which is a publication for local public radio. Thank you to Jay Parks for making that happen, and can’t wait to see it! / In the background is Kathryn Pedroza’s beautiful artwork

Well another art show is done and dusted. I had a lovely weekend exhibiting and being a part of such a wonderfully conducted art show. The Somers Area is a real delight to visit. The beach is gorgeous and the local cafe/store has the best food. We had lunch at drop off and pick up of art work. Alas I did not sell at the show but I went with a group of artists and each and everyone did sell there. Congratulations to the following red bubble artist , FAYE, LISA, KAREN and Roz. You all did wonderfully. Of course it isn’t easy picking up ones work with a group of people and finding out you are the only one who has to carry work back to the car. Its a gutwrenching. Then on the way home I thought to myself, not only is is gutwrenching but its actually very brave. YES, its BRAVE to put yourself out there. Its brave to display your heart on your sleeve and wait for approval. Because , lets not lie to ourselves…....selling is approval! You can certainly say all the things, like exhibiting is fun, being out there is great, belonging to such a talented community is lucky. YES, it is, I do agree. ARtist David Larwill was in the show and he is famous…so its great to be associated with such an artist. BUT, not selling is always a disappointment because you have to keep going. Success and art are a test sometimes. You have to market yourself, put yourself out there, keep entering shows and looking for the key to success. You have to be resiliant and brave. My friends were all happy and satisfied, I was not. Tomorrow I pick up the brush and do more art. Its all I can do. Now a days I get down if I don’t. I had a lovely time in Somers this weekend. Congratulations to the parents who put that show on. I was impressed with the organization and the dedication. Not to mention the friendliness of all the people who belong there. I hope to get an invite back next year. What’s next then I say to myself, well Sorrento Art show here I come. Tomorrow I am taking a few prints down to the doctors office and she is framing them for her Practice walls. Sometimes you just gotta give it away to feel good again. Tomorrow I give a gift of my art. THAT will make me feel good again and then I will go home and make some more. Thanks to all my art friends on the Peninsula. Billy / Mothers Day – Oils – $350

  • None of the photos really turned out, LOL. i need a better camera. And the reason all my art was mostly flat on the tables, was because the double stick tape wouldn’t stick to the walls. And i really had waaaaay to much out there, probably at least 150 pieces of art, not including greeting cards i had made. Had about 60 people come, & i sold quite a few pieces & it was a lot of fun. / A friend of mine has a friend who owns an art gallery, & he thinks she might be interested in my art and is going to contact her. She takes an artist and put their work up in her gallery for a month. So i will need to find frames & frame some more of my art.
