My calendar has an element of the sea in each month. / Some are tranquil, others are stormy, depending on the month. All are watercolour paintings, and two, May and October, are pen and wash.

Most women know the answer to this, but I thought I would give a bit of insight to men who still don’t understand! ;D On a journey through the uncharted seas of perimenopause and menopause many women encounter rough sailing. Days maybe filled with the swells and troughs of depression, tears, mood swings, irrational angry outbursts, lethargy, and fatigue. Nights may find them in turmoil with gripping anxiety and panic attacks along with soaking night sweats. Our modern lifestyle with its stressful demands, irregular eating habits, junk food cuisine, frequent use of pharmaceutical drugs, and environmental toxic exposure has shifted the hormonal balance way over to the estrogen excess side. The imbalance between estrogen & progesterone, can cause depression, mood swings, anxiety, irritability, anger, insomnia, fatigue, weight gain, bloating, mental fogginess, low libido. A woman’s ability to feel and express her deep emotional life is one of the greatest gifts of being a woman. A woman’s life does not need to be a journey of perpetual emotional storms. I have selected some of my atmospheric paintings, and matched them to the months. Jan – Graveyard Metallica. The lowest, darkest point in winter, in the Northern hemisphere. It gets better from now on! Feb – Hetton Colliery 1838. A dark and industrial scene, we have to tough this month out, like those hard men of that era in the mines! Mar – Smalholm Sunset . The light begins to get brighter as Spring is nearly here. Apr – Blea Tarn. Spring is here and the light gets bright. May – El Golco . Bright long days are here! Jun – Corinth . The season warms up and the longest days of the year. July – Market Day. The hottest month. Aug – Toscana . Holidays abroad and at home. Sept – Victorian Lady Fishing . September begins to turn the season. Oct – Old Carpathia . The dark nights begin, and October ends with Halloween. Nov – Beamish Wheel . Autumnal colours are everywhere. Dec – Trees of Eden . The winter Solstice, and celebration of the birth of Jesus. The reverse is, of course, true for those of you in the Southern hemisphere!

/ I love being an artist! To sit down & paint or draw something, gives my soul positive energy. I can’t remember when I first realised that I love it. Probably when I received my first tin watercolour set & brushes. I can still remember the mess I made! All the colours mixed together and as the colour cakes dried in the tin, the disappointment when I realised that I do not know what colours were where.I must have been 5 or 6 years old. I love painting after the Old Masters. Also to paint & draw after photos of artworks, pics of animals & portraits of people. This calender was designed to showcase some of my best work. I truly hope that you’ll enjoy each month’s image.
