May I take this opportunity to say there are some absolutely wonderful coloured pencil artists on Redbubble. I have only found a small number of them, but I’m sure there are many more out there and I would really appreciate it if anyone could name some more for me please. Some artists on my list use coloured pencils all the time, whilst others use them occasionally or as part of a mixed medium painting. One of the main reasons I joined Redbubble was because I saw the coloured pencil art of Penny Edwardes / Since then I have discovered lots more coloured pencil artists as well and here is a list of them with clickable links to their pages: Deborah Holman / / / heartco / Ine Spee / / / Liesl Yvette Wilson / / / Kathryn Pedroza / / / Michael51 / / / pinkyjain / Brian Towers / / / Gittiart / / / BarbBarcikKeith / / / Lee Wilde / / / Belinda Lindhart / Dawn Davies / Mariana Musa / J. Fehringer / Olechka / robertsloan2 / BlaqkPhoenix / R.L. Hall / Deborah Fuller / Sarah Pittman / MinoYasue / Anne McCluskey / Chelsea Kerwath / Michelle Wrighton / Jenna Forsdyke / Terry Krysak / cheetaah / Suryani Shinta / Angelique Moorman / Roberta Ponte / Steven Novak / sosij / petportraits / sowhat / Larry Butterworth / dimarie / John R. P. Nyaid / Delabarra / I AM UNABLE AT PRESENT TO SHOW DELABARRA’S WORK AS HIS IMAGES ARE IN GIF FORMAT, WHICH WILL NOT SHOW. Karen Townsend / Lazart / Estelle O’Brien / angelartist / Andy Mercer / 1960Fairlane / AS WITH DELABARRA’S WORK I AM UNABLE AT PRESENT TO SHOW ONE OF SEAN’S PICTURES, AS HIS IMAGES ARE IN GIF FORMAT, WHICH WILL NOT SHOW. i STRONGLY ADVICE EVERYONE TO GO TAKE A LOOK THOUGH! Karsten Stier / KARSTEN IS ANOTHER ARTIST WHO UPLOADS GIF IMAGES, SO I CAN’T INCLUDE A PICTURE, BUT PLEASE DO GO TO LOOK AT HIS WORK AS IT IS EXCELLENT. salhunter / synthpaintann I’m unable to show a drawing by synthpaintann because of her security settings, but do take a look at her portfolio. Many artists still look down their noses at coloured pencils, seeing them as a stepping stone towards painting. Others are moving from paints to coloured pencils, or using them for inclusion in mixed media paintings. Many artists, such as dawndavies, do occasional coloured pencil drawings to add to their portfolios. I’m starting to get hooked myself. If anyone knows of any other coloured pencil artists, I’d love to see their work please.

Les couleurs

Red Red is the warmest of all colors. Red is the color most chosen by extroverts and one of the top picks of males. On the negative side red can mean temper or anger. In China, red is the color of prosperity and joy. Red is Tuesday’s color. Red roses symbolize passionate love. Red is associated with fiery heat and warmth. It can also mean danger. Red is the color of blood, and as such has strong symbolism as life and vitality. It brings focus to the essence of life and living with emphasis on survival. Red is also the color of passion and lust. Put some red in your home when you want: increased enthusiasm and interest / more energy / action and confidence to go after your dreams / protection from fears and anxieties Positive associations: / Love, warmth, excitement, passion, food Negative associations: / Danger, anger. Blue Blue is the coolest color – the color of the sky, ocean, sleep, twilight. Blue symbolizes the Virgin Mary. A pure blue is the color of inspiration, sincerity and spirituality. Blue is the calming color. Dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. A blue iris means your friendship is very important to me. Wednesday’s color is blue. Turquoise is the symbol of youth. This color has a soothing affect. Turquoise is the color of communication. It contains the growth quality of green with the blue quality of communication. Aqua is the color of high ideals. Blue gives a feeling of distance. Artists use it to to show perspective. This is a good way to understand the energy of the color blue – it allows us to look beyond and increase our perspective outward. It contains a cool vibration that is helpful to communication. Put some blue in your home when you want: calm and relaxation to counteract chaos or agitation / to open the flow of communication / to broaden your perspective in learning new information / solitude and peace / Positive associations: / Power, professionalism, trustworthiness, calmness Negative associations: / Boredom, sadness Green Green is the color of nature, fertility, life. Grass green is the most restful color. Green symbolizes self-respect and well being. Green is the color of balance. It also means learning, growth and harmony. Green is a safe color, if you don’t know what color to use anywhere use green. Green is favored by well balanced people. Green symbolizes the master healer and the life force. It often symbolizes money. It was believed green was healing for the eyes. Egyptians wore green eyeliner. You should eat raw green foods for good health. Friday is the day of green. Green contains the powerful energies of nature, growth, desire to expand or increase. Balance and a sense of order are found in the color green. Change and transformation is necessary for growth, and so this ability to sustain changes is also a part of the energy of green. Put some green in your home when you want: a new state of balance / feel a need for change or growth / freedom to pursue new ideas / protection from fears and anxieties connected with the demands of others Positive associations: / Nature, life, money Negative associations: / Decay, toxicity, illness Orange Orange is a power color. It is one of the healing colors. It is said to increase the craving for food. It also stimulates enthusiasm and creativity. Orange means vitality with endurance. People who like orange are usually thoughtful and sincere. While red is associated with fiery heat, orange is associated with the benign warmth of the sun. A dynamic color to be sure, orange offers a more thoughtful control than explosive red. Curiosity is a driving characteristic of orange, and with it comes exploration of new things. Put some orange in your home when you want: to spice things up when you feel time is dragging / to become more involved in something / to increase creativity / relief from things becoming too serious Positive associations: / Affordability, creativity, fun, youth Negative associations: / Lack of quality, cheap Purple Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation. Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Most children love the color purple. Purple is the color most favored by artists. Thursday’s color is purple. Purple is a combination of blue and red. Red is a focusing, dynamic and active energy while blue is cooling, calming and expansive. Purple brings a new dynamic to the expansion of blue and the activity of red. Red brings practicality to the undirected expansiveness of the blue, and allows more creative energy to emerge. For this reason, purple is associated with imagination and inspiration. Put some purple in your home when you want: to use your imagination to its fullest / to re-balance your life / to remove obstacles / to calm overactivity or to energize from depression Positive associations: / Royalty, luxurious, fantasy, dreams Negative associations: / Nightmare, craziness Gray Gray is the color of sorrow. People who favor gray can be the lone wolf type or narrow-minded. Gray with more silver in it can be a very active color. Gray is the symbol for security, maturity and dependability. It connotes responsibility and conservative practicality. Gray is the true neutral color. Its energy imparts void, emptiness, lack of movement, emotion, warmth and identifying characteristics. Because of this, gray can be restful. It has a detached and isolated feeling. Gray can have a cooling effect when placed next to other more vibrant colors. It has a stabilizing effect, making vibrant colors stand out while muting their vibration. Put some gray in your home when you want: to emphasize your willingness to comply / a neutral, non-invasive feeling / to reduce the intense energy of another color / to feel detached or isolated White White is the color of purity. Brides wear white in many countries, because white symbolizes a virgin. White means kindness. In some cultures white is worn at funerals. White is Monday’s color. White daisies are a symbol of loyal love. / White Energy Strictly speaking, white is not a color, but the manifestation of the presence of all color – the complete energy of light. It stands for wholeness and completion. In many cultures it represents openness and truth. White has a cold quality. It can provide clarity as its energy is complete. White has purification vibrations and can be used to clear blocks from your path. Put some white in your home when you want: to clear clutter and obstacles away / to start a fresh beginning / to bring about mental clarity / purification of thoughts or actions Pink Pink is the color of universal love. Pink is a quiet color. Lovers of beauty favor pink. A pink carnation means: I will never forget you. Pink is a combination of red and white. The quality of energy in pink is determined by how much red is present. White is the potential for fullness, while red helps you to achieve that potential. Pink combines these energies. Shades of deep pink, such as magenta, are effective in neutralizing disorder and violence. Pink provides feelings of caring, tenderness, self-worth and love, acceptance. Put some pink in your home when you want: calm feelings / to neutralize disorder / relaxation / acceptance, contentment Brown People who prefer brown are often conventional and orderly. The negative meaning of brown can be a repressed personality or a lazy person. Brown is the color of the earth and is associated with the material side of life. Brown can mix into many surroundings. It is a mixture of red, blue and yellow and has many shades and tones – each producing a different effect. Brown can be a stabilizing color. The red in brown gives it practical energy while the yellow and blue add mental focus energies. Too much brown can make a dull effect. Brown gives a feeling of solidity, and allows one to stay in the background, unnoticed. Some shades of brown create a warm, comfortable feeling of wholesomeness, naturalness and dependability. Put some brown in your home when you want: a solid wholesome feeling / to blend with the background / a connection with natural earth and the stability this brings / orderliness and convention

Meet Little Lost Orca and Migaloo
by Karin TaylorMIGALOOMAGIC is my new concept gallery at Red Bubble…below are the very first offerings!...
MIGALOOMAGIC is my new concept gallery at Red Bubble…below are the very first offerings! My Definition of Magic / Adjective – Wonderful, amazing or incredible, ie as in ‘a magic moment’ I think it’s very important to define magic, as for some people this is a stumbling block and something that conjures up images of black magic, darkness, and other practices which i don’t subscribe to… for the record I’m a christian who doesn’t head to sunday services each week, although i have spent most of my life doing that, it’s not where I am at this stage of the journey….and I’m not a perfect one by any means, I’m quite an unusual one by christian standards, and many feel i don’t meet the standards, but that’s ok…God and I are like this :D we’re tight, so it doesn’t matter what others think on that score…and I guess it’s unusual for me to use the word ‘magic’ when ‘magic practices’ are forbidden in the bible… but it is the where I am coming from that matters to God…He knows I don’t mean it in that way…so already, i apologise to any who may find it offensive or inconsistent, but I intend to keep the name as to me it only implies magic in this case as “wonderful, amazing or incredible, as in a magic moment”. / migaloo-pink-magic / / migaloo-blue-magic / migaloo-in-antarctica / little-lost-orca / rainbow-orcas / little-lost-orca tshirt / Moo Cow Sunrise / Little Moo I’ve been busy with a new concept…. / I wanted to bring parents something special to help them connect with their children… / I am busy creating a series of digital wall art, especially for children…for their bedrooms. My new gallery on Red Bubble is called migaloomagic / So far, I have created six conceptual pieces of art over there….but I am excited to show you anyway!! This is a gallery which I hope will provide gifts for children, for their bedrooms, for their birthdays…...I hope that it will bring parents closer to their children by helping them remember to tell their children stories, you know – the old fashioned kind of stories….the ones you just make up on the spot….. When the kids say….’tell us a story mum/dad/aunty/uncle/guardian/carer” i hope that you as a parent will gain an inspirational thought or two, from glancing up on the wall and seeing these whales or some other little idea from my artwork…to help you along :D Hugs to all, / Karin :D

Painting Diesel on Decks - 1/4 of the way through....
by DieselLawsDiesel on Decks – The Art Piece / ...
Diesel on Decks – The Art Piece / - This is my favourite design to date and, as I was rummaging through the house the other day I stumbled across an acrylic paint set. / So I popped down the shop, purchased some 45×60 canvas’ and decided it was time to convert my art from digital to reality. I decided to take some photos of the process and as it stands, I believe I am 1/4 of the way through. Enjoy. —-—-—-—-- / To start, I hopped into Photoshop and made my canvas the same size as the ‘real’ canvas. In this case, 45cm x 60cm, with 300dpi. Then I dragged my vector image across and resized it to fit the Photoshop canvas. Unfortunately I don’t have a massive printer, so I printed the image across 4 pieces of paper, (there was a little bit of the image missing on each page) aligning each page with the reference corner; eg. top left image on the page aligns with top left corner, bottom right aligns to bottom right corner etc. Then, I printed a colour version of the center image, where most of the ‘action’ happens. I will use this image for colour reference, and also tracing later on. Then came the question of how to get that design onto the canvas. Remembering back to primary school, I used a highly advanced technique (WARNING – NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED) called…...TRACING. Told you it was advanced! I coloured the back of the main colour image, and then, using my 4 pages as a guide, I traced the image directly onto the canvas. Ooooooh! Then I posed for this really cool shot. Then next bit was to get my paints out and start colouring in the areas. Even though I will later cover over the edges with thick black outlines, I wanted to be as neat as possible and take my time on this artwork. I tend to usually rush things in real life so it was a good test! When I paint, I have a habit of pouring out way too much paint then I need. Today was no different. I’m sure I will learn to perfect this wasting technique as the days go on. I was drawing/painting for about 2 hours and I’m quite proud of how far I have got already. I’m also very happy with where it is going, and it may not look like much in the final drawing SO FAR, but in my opinion it’s on track! I’m not sure how long it will take to finish it, probably another 4 days when I get the time, but I will put up another Journal entry asap! This is where we leave it for today, but stay tuned…I will finish this! If you like this art piece, please view it here > /

I did. It isn’t the first time either. This time I requested Winsor and Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colours. I would be interested to hear if any of you have used them and what you think? I have slowly been collecting convential oil paints too but as I paint on the kitchen table didn’t want to make the whole area smell of white spirit. Not needing to use solvents for mixing and for cleaning brushes attracted me So far I have used acrylics but want to branch out into oils this year. I have tried oils a few times and have been amazed by their ability to mix so well…whereas as soon as the acrylic hits the canvas it dries on a warm day almost instantly. This often means that a use a ‘dry brush’ technique with acrylics to blend colours, sometimes I work with a small sponge too So is it impossible to tell the difference between these water mixable oil colours and traditional ones? All the colours are rated as permanent for lightfastness, some of course are transparent or semi-transparent, others opaque or semi-opaque. There are 40 colours in the range, I have only a fraction of them at the mo. / Artisan mediums can be mixed with them to thin, help in fast-drying and work in impasto I will post again on here when I have tried them out and let you know how I find them. / I have heaps to learn about mediums and if you have a particular favourite I’ll like to know what it is and why? I have seen a great variety of them used by artists on RedBubble…watercolours, pen and ink, pastels, oil crayons, coloured pencils etc… They can be used alone or in combination with each other to achieve some marvellous effects. Happy creating to all. By the way I sold 5 paintings in my first solo exhibition which finished a few weeks ago and was very happy with that. Now it is time to think about the next one. Cheers / Anni

Planning a solo exhibition in Melbourne, Australia – opening night in March. Any thoughts on this artist statement for the show….note: I have never written an artist statement and am pretty nervous about it….? / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / “Angels, Gods and Elements” is a collection of works depicting mythological and fanciful characters. The collection demonstrates my ability to utilise the inspiring qualities of colour and is intended to impact the audience and spark the imagination. I have demonstrated an interest in colour from a young age. Over the years, I have become appreciative of the ability for colour to be vibrant, expressive and evoke emotion. When I work with colour, I am reminded that those chosen for a particular piece must work together to illustrate the story behind the work and capture the attention of the observer. Self-taught, I specialise in oil pastel on craft wood (MDF). Each piece produced is initiated with research and deciding on a story to be illustrated. A piece is considered complete when the character of the illustrated story and their precise nature has been truthfully captured.

Body of work that is. ;) It is with great pleasure I show you the art that is now in a better place, gone, not to meet their maker, but their founder. The person who will shall the rest of their life-their new admirer. To say it clearly-I have sold some art this year! Rather than tack it into the last journal entry, I’ve decided to make a 2008 sales list. It’ll help me keep track. (mwah ha ha, because it’s wonderfully popular). Yes, it’s great to feel that way sometimes. Often, I go, “that’s nice, achievement made” without really appreciating how awesome that feels. You make art, and if someone else likes it, it is wonderful. I bought an art magazine recently which nominated 50 of the most collectable artists in Australia. I’ve decided I’d like to be on that list. Of course, I’d like to remain anonymous so I can walk down the street, and have an agent…other than that, no clue as to how it will happen, just that I need to keep painting. Anyhoo. I went rollerblading once. It felt so good, I thought I could do this forever. It was like-I’m good at this, I can do it-I’m going fast, not falling over: I could be an olympic racer. Totally normal. Totally human to dream. However dreams require effort. Here are some of the dreams I put into reality, shared with the world and belong in other hands. As of 2008. building a bridge-maroon dots / summer flow.+ / Gallery 26 second opening texture of sound / Fish face / the big O-yeah / clean to Damian / pulses of knowing to Rob / red eye to Rob / butterfly type twp to Teresa / “woodley”: to Rob / ! thank Robs-your a fantastic patron!
