Hello fellow bubblers, I thought it might be useful if we tried to give you an insight into the ‘mind of RedBubble’ – every now and then. To give you an understanding of what makes us tick. One of the key ideas underpinning RedBubble is that ‘everyone’s an artist’. Let me restate part of our very first journal post “People are inherently creative. Deep down, most of us love to come up with new ideas, express who we are, or take a different perspective on the world around us. This is particularly true of children. Remember chalk on the footpath, crayon on the walls, or a painting stuck proudly to the fridge with a magnet. Kids love stories, they love learning about new things, they ask obvious yet somehow overlooked questions. So why don’t many of us focus on our creative interests as adults? Is there something about the process of growing up that changes us, that convinces us to be serious and sensible? Do we lose the ability to be creative? Or does it just get buried amidst the responsibilities, worries and priorities of adult life? Look closer, though, and you’ll see sparks of creativity in adults everywhere. Since starting our RedBubble journey, we’ve been amazed at how many of our close friends have “confessed” to a secret creative hobby, a little spark of creativity that few else know about. Look at the statistics and the picture is clearer still. Over 2.5 million Australians regularly take part in some sort of creative or cultural activity. Almost 90% do this entirely for free, for the simple enjoyment of it. A fortunate few earn a living from it, but most keep their creative spark alive in their own time and without sharing it with the world. RedBubble was founded with a burning desire to improve this situation. And there are some major social and technological trends helping us out.“ We openly want to embrace a wide variety of material on RedBubble, from a wide variety of people – from professional artists to emerging artists to people just discovering their artistic side. We don’t want to place more limits or barriers in the way of people – life has enough barriers – so we’ve tried to keep RedBubble as open as possible. This is why we haven’t placed any upload limits on the site and why we don’t vet content before it’s published. We’ve recently received feedback from the community that such an open approach has meant people might be encouraged to post ‘anything’ to RedBubble. Our thinking is that RedBubble should be the place for your best work and over the next short while we’re looking to update the site to further encourage this behaviour. But we don’t want RedBubble to become an elite only site – we don’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. - Peter

Hello all! I’m constantly inspired by the people I meet via RedBubble. There are so many interesting and inspirational people involved in RedBubble … and I’d like to help get more of our stories out. As one way of doing this I’ve started (today) a series of ‘artist profiles’. The guidelines for these profiles are very broad. People involved in RedBubble write about other people involved in RedBubble. The profiles should be short (500 words) and interesting. The first profile is on the wonderfully talented Tom Godfrey So if there’s someone on RedBubble who inspires you – and you’d like to write a short piece on them please get in touch with Peter.

WOW… so far we’ve had 114 favouritings and 1,201 views in the first two weeks of uploading this journal and the other journal i’ve had lots of interest in this topic, so happy it’s what you’re looking for, and hope it helps lots :) Hi everyone, This would be the most FAQ I receive from other bubblers, ie, how do i enhance my profile, how do I create a link, how do I display my products on the page…. Just in case you’ve been away for a little while or missed this Enhancing Your Red Bubble Profile Page and Portfolio Tutorial I want to share it with you again, I’d like to get this out to as many folks and especially new bubblers, so i don’t mind one bit if you journal it and share it around with a link to help any newcomers etc…..because it’s really important to me that everyone have the tools they need to enhance their red bubble pages… I have added a new section, and will continue to add to it as the need arises, any new and helpful information in the form of how to do things to improve the look of your bubble. Don’t forget to print this sheet up, favourite it, keep it beside your computer for easy reference, and remember…..if you lose it, or the favourite disappears, you can always just go to my profile page where i’ve put a BIG BUTTON to link you to the Tutorial, see below…also there are two other buttons there as well, one is to share with you other tutorials by helpful bubblers which you may find useful, and Red Bubbles Frequently Asked Questions and Answers over in the forums to give you fast and easy access…... I would actually be grateful if you added these buttons/banners and links to your own Profile Pages to spread the word to others, and make access to help more easily available to newcomers and everyone on the bubble…. spread the love around…. / You’ll find out how to do this in the Tutorial…. :) How to add the banners to your own profile page..to help other bubblers have easy access to help and assistance and spread the word around a) Open two tabs/windows in your browser / b) Click on ‘Edit your Profile” / c) Click on the second tab/window / d) Go to this journal page here / e) Scroll down until you get to the button/banner / f) Right click on the banner/button / g) click on copy image location / h) Return to the first open tab/window to ‘Edit your Profile / I) Type in an exclamation mark ! / m) Paste the image location right beside the exclamation mark leaving no spaces / n) Type in an exclamation mark right after the image location / o) Type in a colon directly beside the exclamation mark / p) click on the second window/tab and go to the url box of tutorial page to highlght the address / q) paste the url right next to the colon (leave no spaces whatsoever) What you’ve typed should look a lot like this below, without the spacing….. you musn’t leave any spaces….. if you prefer you can simply copy and paste this below information into your ‘Edit Your Profile’ box and just by removing the spaces you will have created a clickable image/banner link to the Tutorial / ! http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg188/karinlouisetaylor/bannerEnhanceYourProfile.jpg ! : http://www.redbubble.com/people/karin/journal/1964545-tutorial-how-to-enhance-your-profile Underneath is the coding to copy and past the other two buttons / ! http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg188/karinlouisetaylor/BANNERTUTORIALS.png ! : http://www.redbubble.com/people/karin/journal/1469814-linking-and-enhancing-your-profile-on-red-bubble ! http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg188/karinlouisetaylor/BANNERFAQ.png ! : http://www.redbubble.com/groups/redbubble/forums Just don’t forget to remove those spaces between the exlamation marks and colon thank you for time time in reading this…. and I would be absolutely thrilled if you shared this information with your friends…. and anyone who needs help! We all have artists on our watchlist that we think are wonderful, but who may not get the recognition they deserve or their work just gets passed by in the influx of daily work here on Redbubble. I would like to form a journal entry here that serves the purpose of bringing awareness and traffic to these underappreciated artists, so my proposal is that anyone who wished to come into this journal and post 1 or 2 links to artists on their watchlists whom they absolutely adore. This idea was originally begun by JULIE LANGFORD so please be sure to visit her journal HERE too for more amazing work! Also feel free to link to their images as well, and try not to repeat the same artists as have already been mentioned and promoted. This way we can get the word out about so many of these tremendous hidden talents here at Redbubble. I have two artists I would now like to introduce to you that I have on my watchlist: David Linkenauger and Shelley Spillenaar David is one of my fellow home state photographers and takes really nice waterscape images, and Shelley in my mmind has a wonderful eye and a keen sense of capturing the right moment with animals. Please go take a look at the wonderful work of these two artists, and if you like what you see be sure to tell them so and maybe even add them to your watchlist! Also, be sure to scan your own watchlist for someone who you think deserves more attention than they are currently getting in the world of Redbubble! Let’s make this a huge success!

/ / It would be such a pity to leave without a comment. Like it? Say so. Don’t like it? Say so too! With a bang, if that fits your style. I’d rather leave a negative impression (on someone) than nothing at all. DullNBoring is NOT my middle name. Neither my last (I knew you’d probably say that!) As for the first name, it’s on the front page. So, please go ahead, leave a note and make my day! Hello to Ears Wide Open! After reading a lot of discussion in the forums I would like to present my proposal to you. I am based in Melbourne and am very seriously committed to renting a stall at a couple of markets to sell RedBubble Artists’ work and promote the site. I currently manage an art gallery that sells prints and originals on commission and have a strong understanding of what is involved to make this idea work. Rather than just throwing it up as a suggestion, I have included a suggested plan so that you have something tangible to discuss. I think the market stall idea has a lot of merit and could potentially grow into quite a lucrative endevour as well as being a huge promotional tool. It is a way of tapping into Melbourne’s art culture which is heavily concentrated in street stalls, markets, garage sales and small independent galleries. The benefits include increased membership on the site through being visible to Melbourne artists at their predominant place of work and increased sales through order taking on site at the stalls and through increased online patronage. Anyway, on to the plan! BubbleMarket Plan Interested artists will complete a form through the RedBubble website to register their interest in participating and agree to the consignment and payment terms. I will agree to sell their work on consignment only. All care (in fact heaps of care) but no responsibility will be taken for artists work at the stall or in transit. In the interests of keeping it simple and reasonable for a 1-2 person stall, I’d suggest a standard mark up that all submitted work will be sold at. We would have to keep prices competitive with “market” prices. I would add a small surcharge to all sales to cover my time and labor to be negotiated. Artists’ biographies, catalogues or portfolios are more than welcome if artists will post them to me. I would like to promote the individuals along with their art. If you can give me a catalogue with order codes/numbers and a cordless EFTPOS machine (even an old Click Clack one) I will take orders on behalf of RedBubble.com. If taking orders to be posted I will need all relevant info regarding postage costs to add to the order price. If I am using a Click Clack machine I will not use it for ‘on the day’ sales where the artwork is taken. Stolen cards will be declined long after the customer has gone and you are trying to deposit into the RedBubble bank account. Artists would order their own work at the base price. It would be really awesome if we could arrange to have it all end up at RedBubble Fitzroy and I’d pick it up in one go. On the day I’ll keep a meticulous list of sales and stock so I can track who is owed what money and generally account for the whereabouts of all stock. I do a fair bit of bookkeeping for our three galleries and am competent in tracking dollars and cents! At the end of the day or on the next business day I would return all unsold stock to RedBubble along with the cash. It would be great if you could pay people via the usual method. Unsold stock could be posted back to artists or kept for future markets. Expenses Summary : / -Renting the stall and perhaps a display table / -Posting unsold artworks back to artists ( I will make neat piles for you) / -Appropriate display equipment such as clear, hard backed, display files/slips to prevent damage / -Carbon Invoice book for recording sales and providing receipts / -Promotional material –lots please / -Labor to organise artwork prior to market day / -Labor to organise payments and postage after market day / -Labor associated with creating and printing a catalogue I’d be asking RedBubble Admin to help out with: / -Letting me collect artwork from Fitzroy in one go instead of 50 people posting stuff to me / -Pay artists and deposit cash (I will provide sales lists) / -Supply a click-clack or other portable Credit Card/EFT machine for catalogue orders / -Provide postage price information for catalogue orders. Contingency Planning: / -Select a market with under cover areas because artwork and rain do not mix and bad or windy weather would equal cancelling / -Have 1-2 other people available on the day in case I get hit by a bus, my car is stolen etc. / -Ensuring all artwork available for sale complies with copyright laws I have tried to cover all the main bases here but have probably missed a few things that will be blaringly obvious to others. Perhaps lets discuss it properly because I am really prepared to back this idea and make it happen with a bit of your support. BubbleMarket could become a regular event and a HUGE promotional tool for RedBubble and all the great artists we are so lucky to have on here. Do not hesitate to give me a call in or outside of business hours to discuss this idea further. Jo O’Brien / jo.obrien@hotmail.com

/ The Big 30…30,000 views!!! WOW! I’m feeling old! LOL! No really, it’s great…no actually it’s fantastic! Thank you to each and every one who has become a part of my life, my views and even my artwork itself. Here are some of my favorite highlights since the last ten thousand miles… The biggest news I probably have to announce is the publishing of my artwork in “Artists of The West” book! It is a true milestone for me and a great personal success. It was an amazing project to be involved in and over a three year journey. I ended up making some great friends and contacts along the way and really bonded with everyone involved in the book. / After the release of the book there was some really exciting events to follow like the first book signing in St. Helens with the official release. / I am also doing a public book signing, autographs and a special unveiling of three of my new paintings at the Astoria Sunday Market later this month. The Astoria Sunday Market / / (Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you’re interested or would like more information on the event) Also I am VERY excited to be a part of the RedBubble Rialto Towers art exhibit ironically also on July 27th the same date of my book signing in Astoria, Oregon! My work First Tree was chosen along with 40 other works of art to show in the foyer of the Rialto Towers for a two week art show! I am honored and thrilled to be showing my work alongside the other amazing artists and my RedBubble friends! I was also a part of some wonderful collaborations My collaboration piece Through The Past To The Future with my friend Michael Gatch was a total success and incredibly fun! It was inspired by his photo Through The Past / We had such a good time we did another one… / Apple Harvest which was inspired by Michael’s photo Old Apple When I looked at this work I saw the tree as the point of life that was celebrated and brought people and family together. I wanted to I take it back in time or to another time perhaps. I also had a fantastic collaboration with my dear friend Paul Hobday / I was really inspired by his photo Twisted and had a vision of what eventually became…The Other Side Of The Fence my newest work. Again THANK YOU to each of you who took the time to view my work, comment on my work and invest into me and my career. My art work is the road in this life that I have chosen to make a living on and really…it is my life. In each painting or drawing I create I try to leave a bit of myself to be shared with another person. / Thank you so much for supporting and embracing me and one of my true loves…art!
