Geez, lately …. i just can’t get rainbows out of my head…....so I’ve been doing lots of them, you’ve probably noticed….. there’s a message in that….. just HOPE / Hopefully, the rainbows bring more HOPE and more thinking about HOPE…. often I find I lose hope…so this influx of rainbows is as much for me as anything….i think i’m very focussed on them right now, because it’s so easy to lose sight of hope, and Christmas is a time to refocus on that which brings hope to ourselves, and gives hope and spreads a light to others i guess….. Hello to Ears Wide Open! After reading a lot of discussion in the forums I would like to present my proposal to you. I am based in Mel…

Hello to Ears Wide Open! After reading a lot of discussion in the forums I would like to present my proposal to you. I am based in Melbourne and am very seriously committed to renting a stall at a couple of markets to sell RedBubble Artists’ work and promote the site. I currently manage an art gallery that sells prints and originals on commission and have a strong understanding of what is involved to make this idea work. Rather than just throwing it up as a suggestion, I have included a suggested plan so that you have something tangible to discuss. I think the market stall idea has a lot of merit and could potentially grow into quite a lucrative endevour as well as being a huge promotional tool. It is a way of tapping into Melbourne’s art culture which is heavily concentrated in street stalls, markets, garage sales and small independent galleries. The benefits include increased membership on the site through being visible to Melbourne artists at their predominant place of work and increased sales through order taking on site at the stalls and through increased online patronage. Anyway, on to the plan! BubbleMarket Plan Interested artists will complete a form through the RedBubble website to register their interest in participating and agree to the consignment and payment terms. I will agree to sell their work on consignment only. All care (in fact heaps of care) but no responsibility will be taken for artists work at the stall or in transit. In the interests of keeping it simple and reasonable for a 1-2 person stall, I’d suggest a standard mark up that all submitted work will be sold at. We would have to keep prices competitive with “market” prices. I would add a small surcharge to all sales to cover my time and labor to be negotiated. Artists’ biographies, catalogues or portfolios are more than welcome if artists will post them to me. I would like to promote the individuals along with their art. If you can give me a catalogue with order codes/numbers and a cordless EFTPOS machine (even an old Click Clack one) I will take orders on behalf of RedBubble.com. If taking orders to be posted I will need all relevant info regarding postage costs to add to the order price. If I am using a Click Clack machine I will not use it for ‘on the day’ sales where the artwork is taken. Stolen cards will be declined long after the customer has gone and you are trying to deposit into the RedBubble bank account. Artists would order their own work at the base price. It would be really awesome if we could arrange to have it all end up at RedBubble Fitzroy and I’d pick it up in one go. On the day I’ll keep a meticulous list of sales and stock so I can track who is owed what money and generally account for the whereabouts of all stock. I do a fair bit of bookkeeping for our three galleries and am competent in tracking dollars and cents! At the end of the day or on the next business day I would return all unsold stock to RedBubble along with the cash. It would be great if you could pay people via the usual method. Unsold stock could be posted back to artists or kept for future markets. Expenses Summary : / -Renting the stall and perhaps a display table / -Posting unsold artworks back to artists ( I will make neat piles for you) / -Appropriate display equipment such as clear, hard backed, display files/slips to prevent damage / -Carbon Invoice book for recording sales and providing receipts / -Promotional material –lots please / -Labor to organise artwork prior to market day / -Labor to organise payments and postage after market day / -Labor associated with creating and printing a catalogue I’d be asking RedBubble Admin to help out with: / -Letting me collect artwork from Fitzroy in one go instead of 50 people posting stuff to me / -Pay artists and deposit cash (I will provide sales lists) / -Supply a click-clack or other portable Credit Card/EFT machine for catalogue orders / -Provide postage price information for catalogue orders. Contingency Planning: / -Select a market with under cover areas because artwork and rain do not mix and bad or windy weather would equal cancelling / -Have 1-2 other people available on the day in case I get hit by a bus, my car is stolen etc. / -Ensuring all artwork available for sale complies with copyright laws I have tried to cover all the main bases here but have probably missed a few things that will be blaringly obvious to others. Perhaps lets discuss it properly because I am really prepared to back this idea and make it happen with a bit of your support. BubbleMarket could become a regular event and a HUGE promotional tool for RedBubble and all the great artists we are so lucky to have on here. Do not hesitate to give me a call in or outside of business hours to discuss this idea further. Jo O’Brien / jo.obrien@hotmail.com

  • Sales @ Ten Weeks (two new tshirt sales!!)
    by Karin Taylor

___ / FIRST BIT OF NEWS / ___ I sold two tees Yay (one last night and one this morning!!!!!) Two Late…

___ / FIRST BIT OF NEWS / ___ I sold two tees Yay (one last night and one this morning!!!!!) Two Latest Designs sold (with many thanx) to beautiful fellow bubblebees Firstly, last night some time Liesl Yvette Wilson an aussie artist living in London who does gorgeous children’s illustrations (please pay her a visit !!) purchased my latest Kokeshi Doll Autumn TShirt: ...and NEXTLY, SalsBells69 a fellow bubblebee and wonderful photographer from Australia, purchased my other latest tee design Fantasy Island Retro TShirt: I have been really down lately, and these two sales have boosted my spirits enormously, a very big thank you to my two special buyers Leisl and Sal :) thanx guys! _________ NEX BIT OF NEWS * ( / i see you’re still here, thanx so much for hangin’ round for next bit) / ________ Hi fellow bubblebees, I joined red bubble community on or around about the 7th February 2008 (near on 10 weeks ago) i think :) i never know what today’s date is even tho it’s apparently right here on my computer screen…i am really a computer illiterate in many many ways (sh don’t tell anyone that lol) – my friend frozenfa knows this only too well :) Just me with a special update…for a while now I’ve ummed and ahhhed as to whether to share or not about sales and figures…when i first started bubbling i was so excited i couldn’t help but share good news…but as time’s gone by, I’ve noticed the ups and downs emotionally that we all go through over the good and bad times. I think all of us struggle terribly when no-one’s buying our work, and I’ve had an immense struggle with it myself. When no-one’s buying you think, okay, it’s all over bar the shout, i’m finished, i’m washed up, i wanna get out of this cruel game which is a roller coaster ride to say the least I’ve watched friends many times feel despairing, and I know that feeling so well. So sometimes sharing about sales and views can crush someone else’s spirit, or it can spur them on to become more and more determined to win the big prize :) I feel seeing someone else’s success does both these things to me. I’m not sure how the rest of you are going with your sales and progress, i’m told some even make close to a living from selling their work here…...I’m far from that goal ….. but we must continue to encourage one another all the more if some are feeling low and flailing, there are so many wonderful artists here, and i see they have no comments on their work, or just one and i wonder why is that? I have been so encouraged by this wonderful community and the warm sentiments fill my heart with joy and put a spring in my step, i can assure you all of that :) and I wanted to say thank you to everyone for being like, my extended family of brothers and sisters :) Anyway, I’ve been keeping quiet about sales and views for a while…..i wonder whether if you’re doing well..people will drop you off their watchlist….or if you’re doing not so well, people let you go anyway, i really don’t know…. But i try to be honest about who i am, so i’ve decided to lay it on the table today….and here are my stats :) Ten Weeks on Red Bubble art views 25,045 / clothing views 7,350 card sales 25 / tshirt sales 12 / _print sales _ 1 total sales* 38 translated $$$’s $163.48 ________ FINALE _ (if you’re still awake and stuck with me til this / point, i must applaud and congratulate and send you / big hugs and thanx :)_ ________ I’ve been very busy lately, as i was commissioned by some folks in United States to create some designs for a business proposal…don’t think i can say much more than that…but stay tuned as it could turn into something big….and that would be very cool :) thanks for listening to my guff everyone, love yas all :) big hugs from Karin xo

MIGALOOMAGIC is my new concept gallery at Red Bubble…below are the very first offerings!...

MIGALOOMAGIC is my new concept gallery at Red Bubble…below are the very first offerings! My Definition of Magic / Adjective – Wonderful, amazing or incredible, ie as in ‘a magic moment’ I think it’s very important to define magic, as for some people this is a stumbling block and something that conjures up images of black magic, darkness, and other practices which i don’t subscribe to… for the record I’m a christian who doesn’t head to sunday services each week, although i have spent most of my life doing that, it’s not where I am at this stage of the journey….and I’m not a perfect one by any means, I’m quite an unusual one by christian standards, and many feel i don’t meet the standards, but that’s ok…God and I are like this :D we’re tight, so it doesn’t matter what others think on that score…and I guess it’s unusual for me to use the word ‘magic’ when ‘magic practices’ are forbidden in the bible… but it is the where I am coming from that matters to God…He knows I don’t mean it in that way…so already, i apologise to any who may find it offensive or inconsistent, but I intend to keep the name as to me it only implies magic in this case as “wonderful, amazing or incredible, as in a magic moment”. / migaloo-pink-magic / / migaloo-blue-magic / migaloo-in-antarctica / little-lost-orca / rainbow-orcas / little-lost-orca tshirt / Moo Cow Sunrise / Little Moo I’ve been busy with a new concept…. / I wanted to bring parents something special to help them connect with their children… / I am busy creating a series of digital wall art, especially for children…for their bedrooms. • Painting Diesel on Decks - 1/4 of the way through....
    by DieselLaws

Diesel on Decks – The Art Piece / ...

Diesel on Decks – The Art Piece / - This is my favourite design to date and, as I was rummaging through the house the other day I stumbled across an acrylic paint set. / So I popped down the shop, purchased some 45×60 canvas’ and decided it was time to convert my art from digital to reality. I decided to take some photos of the process and as it stands, I believe I am 1/4 of the way through. Enjoy. —-—-—-—-- / To start, I hopped into Photoshop and made my canvas the same size as the ‘real’ canvas. In this case, 45cm x 60cm, with 300dpi. Then I dragged my vector image across and resized it to fit the Photoshop canvas. Unfortunately I don’t have a massive printer, so I printed the image across 4 pieces of paper, (there was a little bit of the image missing on each page) aligning each page with the reference corner; eg. top left image on the page aligns with top left corner, bottom right aligns to bottom right corner etc. Then, I printed a colour version of the center image, where most of the ‘action’ happens. I will use this image for colour reference, and also tracing later on. Then came the question of how to get that design onto the canvas. Remembering back to primary school, I used a highly advanced technique (WARNING – NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED) called…...TRACING. Told you it was advanced! I coloured the back of the main colour image, and then, using my 4 pages as a guide, I traced the image directly onto the canvas. Ooooooh! Then I posed for this really cool shot. Then next bit was to get my paints out and start colouring in the areas. Even though I will later cover over the edges with thick black outlines, I wanted to be as neat as possible and take my time on this artwork. I tend to usually rush things in real life so it was a good test! When I paint, I have a habit of pouring out way too much paint then I need. Today was no different. I’m sure I will learn to perfect this wasting technique as the days go on. I was drawing/painting for about 2 hours and I’m quite proud of how far I have got already. I’m also very happy with where it is going, and it may not look like much in the final drawing SO FAR, but in my opinion it’s on track! I’m not sure how long it will take to finish it, probably another 4 days when I get the time, but I will put up another Journal entry asap! This is where we leave it for today, but stay tuned…I will finish this! If you like this art piece, please view it here > /

I have found Karl James and his works a few days ago and I am very much impressed with his compositions. As far as I can judge, this Australian artist is in a class of his own. His work is not only original, but also has a powerful and very unique expression. Here’s what he says about himself: Karl James is a multi award winning artist and his work has been exhibited widely He is a self taught artist working from Whyalla in regional South Australia. His work covers many media from heavy and brooding charcoal drawings to mono prints, etchings, luscious tactile collages, vibrant paintings in oil and acrylic and even illustrative narratives. Here’s one example of his work: I am sure when you visit his work you will not be dissapointed, on the contrary, you will enjoy it very much. And I am sure he will be more than delighted to have your comments. Why am I promoting him? No other reasons than to let other artists know about him and for an exchange of artistic views and appreciation of good art. My intention is to do more of the kind. Thank you for reading this info and for visiting Karl James work.
