  • Watercolour on paper. 2007. Portrait of an Indigenous artist, Papunya, ca. 1970 from a photograph by Michael Jenson. source: National Library of Australia / / / / Papunya (23°13′S, 131°54′E), is a small Indigenous Australian community of about 350 people roughly 240 km northwest of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is now home to a number of displaced Aboriginal people mainly from the Pintubi and Luritja tribes. / / / / Pintupi and Luritja people were forced off their traditional country in the 1930s and moved into Hermannsburg and Haast’s Bluff where there were government ration depots. There were often tragic confrontations between these people, with their nomadic hunter-gathering lifestyle, and the cattlemen who were moving into the country and over-using the limited water supplies of the region for their cattle. / / / / The Australian government built a water bore and some basic housing at Papunya in the 1950s to provide room for the increasing populations of people in the already-established Aboriginal communities and reserves. The community grew to over a thousand people in the early 1970s and was plagued by poor living conditions, health problems,[such as flu, the disease of the white man which the aboriginals’ bodies found hard to fight off] and tensions between various tribal and linguistic groups. These festering problems led many people, especially the Pintupi, to move further west closer to their traditional country. After settling in a series of outstations, with little or no support from the government, the new community of Kintore was established about 250 km west of Papunya in the early 1980s. / / / / It was during the 1970s that a striking and unique blend of ancient and modern art styles began to emerge in Papunya and by the 1980s had begun to attract national and then international attention, now commanding a proud place on world art markets. source: www.wikepedia.org / / / / / / / / New original art listed every Sunday night in my eBay store

JANUARY 2009 FEATURED IN Unconventional Artistry group AND Core (C.O.R.E) group AND Music Inspired Art (M.I.A) group This art is also included in the Digital Collection #2 2009 Calendar which you can see Here Based on a spiritual experience when 13yrs old. In a dream I was taken in spirit to the top chamber of a pyramid (above the Kings Chamber) where I was placed on an alter and a vibrant white light came shooting down from the heavens through a pin hole in the top of the pyramid and spread over and through me while at the same time lights shot out of me…then all went calm and I woke up. Coldplay To me, Touched By The hand Of God means many things. God being the name I choose to use for the greater source energy that is within all and that we can access through our conscious awareness of being by which we can then connect to all creativity, transformation and knowledge for our life from within…the light that guides us by our conscious awareness of the gift of life we have been honoured to live. The light that guides from higher intelligence…to our intellect…our intuition…and gives us self control over the egoic mind, the old devil, that causes so much pain and sorrow not only in our personal life but also in this world. / MCN:C0793-EF08E-59B82

  • © C J Lewis. Oils on stretched canvas 3‘x 4’. BEST VIEWED LARGE JULY 2009 FEATURED IN Core group / MCN:CADB7-BB617-D4A81 Below is the section of a photograph of a tree trunk that I looked into and which gave me the inspiration to paint this art. The word Christ in Eastern terminology means the enlightened one, a vehicle of enlightenment it was not actually a part of the name of the man, that was called Jesus Christ. He was called Jesus Christ as he was Jesus, the man, who was enlightened and as such understood the energies, and therefore the process of life, in this world which is what sayings such as: “As you sow so shall you reap” and “As you give so shall you receive” and other such explanations referred to…the physics of the energies of this world. Enlightened, enlightenment basically means the understanding, the conscious awareness, of just being and living from the higher sense of the knowledge of self, the Higher Spirit which is directly linked to the Soul, the divine God essence of All, that is above the egocentric mind-set which creates animosities when emotions run high and reactions occur to the action of not thinking what is going through one’s mind…reacting in anger to a situation that has made you feel wronged or whatever instead of seeing the emotion for what it is…a bad feeling that urges one to create a drama in one’s life. Such unconscious awareness is a form of mental dysfunction (mental illness) and causes reactions such as segregation, wars, killing, jealousies, envies etc and pits nation against nation. It’s also the cause of the many problems, both past and present, that creates suffering. I have shown my depiction of the Christ lounging back and having a discussion with Mohammed, his brother in spirit and the other beings that are aware of the function of the energies who are ‘awake’. In the background there are faces behind a curtain of darkness that depicts they are close to awakening. The eagle represents an all seeing animal that transcends dimensions hence the white orb around it’s head like that of the main character being a representation of enlightenment. Some people who allow themselves to go through the door of death and travel in spiritual realms during rest can travel in the form of an eagle and take back the memory of what they witnessed during that journey of being a part of nature. This I believe is what the Ancient Egyptians were referring to in their hieroglyphics of human’s with eagle heads – they were, and are, usually high priests/priestesses of spiritual knowledge. The young girl at the feet of the main character represents one who sits at the feet of Christ, her mentor, and spiritual brother. The yin/yang sign depicts the balance of energies that is needed in the world of physicality for the energies to function with equilibrium within the Universal molecular structure. © C J Lewis, Sydney, 2008.
