A Muse of Sorts… She floats around offering advice and inspiration. She whispers into the ears of the willing and those who seek perfection. To some, she is as real as day or night. To others she is merely a figment of imagination. What is she to you? - This picture is interesting because it originally started as a pencil drawing, lol. Every time I was late to be picked up from school I worked on this. Today I was stranded for a half an hour and I sort of finished it. I decided to color it and I’m really liking the results. Enjoy.
In this painting I have endeavored to reduce the landscape down to its absolute minimum, focusing purely on the line of salt-bush on the horizon, with one solitary bird hovering in the air, to give the impression of the raw empty heat of a mid day summer where nothing stirs until l the cool of the evening. . . The building’s interior, remodeled at that time, is a rare example of New Bauhaus-style design. The art center, which was established as part of the Works Progress Administration’s (WPA) Federal Art Project, has been influential in the development of the city’s African-American artists. It is the only continuous survivor of the more than 100 centers established nationwide by the WPA during the 1930s and ‘40s. “Separated unto the Gospel” Romans 1:1 I sometimes get so caught up in trying to be good in the eyes of God. I find myself so preoccupied with my own inner behavior that I lose sight of what God has called me to do first and foremost- proclaim the Gospel. I justify this by thinking that there is no way that I can be used by God to witness to others until I clean up all of the garbage within myself. The truth is, if I wait until I am personally “holy”, I will never be of any use to God here on earth. God is very interested in reaching and saving His lost children, yet I am more interested in how He can make me more pleasing in my own eyes. Father God, forgive me for my selfishness and pour into me your passion and urgency to proclaim the Gospel of Salvation through Jesus Christ. This painting was inspired by the powerful devotions penned and published by Oswald Chambers in the early 1900’s. His powerful book, My Utmost for His Highest, continues to touch my life and draw me closer to Jesus. I hope that this art and verse do the same for you! Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “ Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” Isaiah 6:2-3 Imagine angels covering their faces in the blazing glory of God as they cry out “Holy, holy, holy”. Have you ever been blinded by the sun? God is absolutely pure and sinless as our Creator, King and Judge. When we stand before him convicted of our sins on Judgment day, what will our response be when He asks us why we should be allowed into His Kingdom? Are we good enough to go to Heaven? Take a quick quiz and find out… Mark Lawrence, Isaiah 6:2-3 Painting with Light, VerseVisions, 2007. Digital mixed media on canvas, 36×36 inches. Copyright © 2007 by Mark Lawrence. You are seeing the verse above painted imperceptibly millions of times repeatedly across the canvas! The final result is a picture that perhaps God first used to catch your eye, and then used to touch and encourage your heart.
An original modern Tile Art canvas by contemporary artist Mark Lawrence of Alpharetta, Georgia . The Tile Art technique is similar to the grid technique pioneered by modern artist Chuck Close. Each of the “tiles” in this work have been meticulously hand worked in a distinctive method created by the artist.
