This was an amazing ice canyon in Juneau Alaska. We stumbled on it during a helicopter tour of the glacier after they let us get out and walk a bit. Amazing. Other sets by Kara… / NATURE / LANDSCAPES / PEOPLE / POEMS / PORTRAITS / SPORTS / SUNSETS / TRAVEL / ARTISTIC WORK / BOUDOIR / OTHER

We had the honor of going to the White Wolf Sanctuary last weekend. Located by the Oregon Coast (near Walport) it truly was a memorable experience. We had no idea that we would get to interact with these beautiful animals. It was an experience that will stick with me for life. One of those big “wow” moments. / All proceeds of the wolf pictures will go to the White Wolf Sanctuary. 100% of the sale price will go to the sanctuary plus I will donate an equal amount (200 % to the wolves). / If you live in the Oregon/Washington area it is such a short drive for an awesome experience. More to follow on the wolves.

These lovely wolves are protected in a preserve called the Lakota Wolf Wildlife Preserve, in Columbia NJ. They are beautiful creatures, and the perserve gives them a home If you live close to NJ or Penn. it’s worth a visit. They have regular tours and Photo tours, I took these shots on the regular tour, although the other tour is probably better for a if you want to have a one on one experience with wolves. Artic wolves are white so they blend in on the snow, their hair is hollow allowing them to act as an insulator in the winter, or a buffer from the heat in the summer. Part of the proceeds from the profits of the sales of these prints will be donated to the organization.
A solitary Polar Bear contemplates portents in the Arctic sky. Will Summer bring a bountiful supply of food or will global warming melt too much of the Polar ice and bring starvation or drowning for his kind? We can make a difference by reducing the use of electricity and fossil fuels like gasoline. We bought an e-scooter last year, runs on battery and doesn’t polute. It’s fantastic! What will your contribution to the environment be for this year? 25% of profits from each poster sold will go directly to Defenders of Wildlife in their efforts to save the Polar Bears of the frozen (but rapidly melting) North Pole. Thanks for caring.

WILD AND FREE / / On the last morning of our Arctic trip we had a few hours to spend in Longyearbyen before our departure. We went for a walk along the shore and came across these Arctic Terns. They were very protective and dived bombed everyone. This image was taken with a 10mm lens – so he was pretty close! (Spitzbergen – Scandinavian Arctic) /

As mentioned in my Penguin in a Snow Storm, I saw mobii’s Origami Penguin Tee shirt, and wanted to give it a go myself. This is the scenario I had in mind for it, and the first penguin I folded (the one in Penguin in a Snow Storm folded from a 7×7mm piece of paper) was too small, so I folded two bigger penguins with 14×14mm pieces of paper. The one on the left is flying up a bit after the right one stomped onto the other end. The seasaw is a cotton swab, and the “ice”, upon which the penguins and seesaw are reflected, is a plastic container. For a better idea of scale: / This work has been featured in / Color Me a Rainbow / Little Things To Make You Smile This work won 1st place in this challenge but the record got lost due to this accident. But I’m very thankful to the host Pene who has re-accepted my work into the group and made a special note in the challenge about my winning work. / / / / / It looks great on a card! Camera: Lumix DMC-FZ7. F8.0. Shutter speed: 1/640 sec. This is another photo from the Farne Islands the path used to come up from the boats onto one of the islands runs straight through an Artic tern Colony. The terns are incrediblly protective of there cicks and eggs so set about pecking and pooing on the tourists without any fear, one even used my head as a moblie perch. It took a while before I managed to get this photo as every time I got the Tern in view and focused they had an annoying habit of flying off or attacking me.
Before the opening of the M6 motorway there was a notorious climb just North of Kendal on the old A6 to Scotland and here we see an AEC artic of Spiers Transport nearing Shap summit Northbound in typical weather conditions. A grimy Leyland Beaver of Dixon Bool unloads steel rod at a factory in Birmingham sometime in the 1960s when Britain still was a serious trading nation and made things rather than just consuming them. Lorry driving in those days was a man’s job, few lorries had heaters, let alone radios or sleeper cabs and many loads were merely manhandled on and off and the vehicles were expected to last at the very least ten years before having a second life with a smaller haulier until run into the ground. But it was a life of comparative freedom for the driver who was very much on his own once out on the road, no sat-nav, no tachograph,no mobile phone and much less traffic generally and a real camaraderie among his fellow sufferers.
