  • A Light Unto My Path My Magical Place / Captured in Plymbridge Woods Dartmoor. / Camera: Nikon D40×18-55mm Kit Lense. Recently Featured in / / A Place Called Home Though I come from Scotland, I’m most at home on the riverbank. I just love places like this in Devon UK, where you can walk peacefully along, listening to the birds and the rippling of the water, the magical light as it streams through the leaves and lights just a small portion of your pathway. Amazing sounds and smells too, especially after rain on a warm day. So earthy…. Yes, I feel at home along the riverbank:-) Sold A Card on Wed 22nd of April 2009. After an operation to remove skin cancer from my forehead. Ouch! that was really painful, but the sale brought a smile to my face, and that hurt again:-) LOL. Thanks to the kind person who purchased it. If you let me know, I’ll put a link in here. Bless you whoever you are. Regards, Don. Captured in Plymbridge Woods Dartmoor, near Plymouth, Devon. / / This picture is one is a series looking at light and shade. I love the way the light shines on the pathway by the riverside and in the distant trees. It reminded me of how God directs us through life, He chooses not to illuminate the whole of our lives, but to direct us little by little bit by bit, so that our trust in in Him alone. The verse of Scripture that sprang to mind was, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”. You can trust God’s Word to guide you through life. Hope you enjoy; A Light unto my path.

  • Beech tree etching using Burnt Umber ink and printed onto Sommerset Ivory coloured fine textured etching paper. The copper plate for this etching is A4 size took me 20 / hours to work on it with an etching needle. Each print / takes 1 hour to ink up and polish before printing. This tree seems to have a life of its own and is so / magical. This etching is from a sketch I did in the / Norfolk village of Withersdale Street. BEST VIEWED LARGER ANCIENT PAGAN WISDOM BEECH TREE – PHAGOS – QUEEN OF THE WOODS The Beech tree traditionaly known as the ‘Queen of the / Woods’ beacause / of its beauty and femininity shars its honour with the / Kingly Oak . Local / British traditions associate it with serpents, probably / because of its / serpentine root system, which are revealed by soil / erosion when they / are planted on hills or slopes. Behind this again lurks / the notion of the / wise serpent giving knowledge to those who ask for it. / Several altars to / the beech have been discovered in the French Pyrenees, / suggesting its important to the Celtic tribers who lived / there. It is said that no harm would / ever befall a traveller shelting beneath its branches, while / prayers uttered / in its shade were bound to be answered, just as any curse / spoken there / was said to be more effective. Slivers of beech wood and / leaves were once carried as talismans to bring good luck / and increase creative energy. / Wishes carved on beech wood wands which were / subsequently buried in / the earth, were said tto be particularly effective and, as the / wood rotted / away in the earth, the wish was released to bear fruit in the / outer world. / Thin leaves of beechwood are said to have been bound / together to form / the first book, which is ceretainly in line with its central / association with / writing and the transmission of lore. The Anglo-Saxon word / for ‘beech’ / was bok (which became book), in German Buche is ‘beech / and Buche us ‘book’, While the Swedish word ‘bok’ means / both ‘book’ and ‘beech’.

  • Impressionist, painterly / Two boys doing what they do best in the rain. Originally impressionism was that the colour should be dropped pure on the canvas rather than mixed on the palette. Today, now that we have so many new paints and mediums to work with, while the original concept of impressionism remains the same, styles and techniques have evolved. / My style of Impressionism embraces traditional painting. It is the evolution of impressionism that i am hoping to achieve, from the original traditional techniques of impressionist painting all the way to this modern impressionist digital art which can be stylized and painterly depending on my subject and mood. My work is hand painted digital painting and is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art, particularly computer-generated art, in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. / I create the painting, directly on my PC, by using a Wacom tablet, a stylus pen and ArtRage painting software. The Wacom tablet can be compared to a canvas or watercolor paper surface. The stylus pen is my paintbrush.

  • I was off to take some photographs of some waterfalls in the Breacon Beacons in Wales when I almost missed this scene. Had there not been a break in the cloud I may have missed it. It was probably the best drive by shooting photograph I have to date. I’ve had a little play in photoshop and thought I’d post the results. / The original was shot using a Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 27mm, f/8, 1/60 sec, ISO 400. No filters used and mounted on the car door. I then upped the exposure in photoshop with a layered PS approach and added some crows for effect. I hope you like it. © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
