Hidden Woman
by CareAcrylic on canvas 1m x 1m / 2005 (original Sold) This painting is about women…being one myself…I found the inspiration to paint that feeling of hiding in plain sight. Where it can feel easier to sink into the background…keeping the inner self hidden…..from harm…from risks….from the world. / But ..really…wanting to bring that hidden woman out to the surface..not be afraid.. but just be.

Stand & Deliver Mixed Media, lots of layers and textures. / Moll Cutpurse is the only highway women I’ve found any reference to although I’m sure there were more…probably too smart to get caught;) Moll Cutpurse’s real name was Mary Firth, a bit of a tomboy, always ready for a rumble and happiest in the company of men. / Sources on her history are a little conflicting but she was a bit of a roguette and after pulling a big job on a Lord, brided her way of goal and the business finding it safer to work as a fence…..a fascinating character from the early 1600’s. Von kindly posted this wonderfully fitting poem / The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees, / The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas, / The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor, / And the highwayman came riding- / Riding-riding- Sales to date: 2 / Available as a framed print, matted print, poster and card. Hi there! ☺ Yes…it´s me…..Andreas Stridsberg. Why am I opening a new account you ask? Well the answer is simple: Because i´m under contract with various publishers that demand they have “first dibs” on my work i can´t go around selling them left and right. I first have to wait for them to either accept or reject any of my new work. And because that´s usually a looooong and slooooow process i then use my other account to simply showcase my work. While on this account i can make those i know for sure my publishers have rejected available as prints to whomever may be interested. Does it make sense to you? :-) I´m sorry for possibly posting duplicates of something that i might already have posted at my original stridsberg-account But i need to keep them separeted due to above mentioned reasons. :-) Thanks for stopping by! Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.

The teapot topiary is also a fountain, you can see water pouring out of the spout and a sprinkler at the tippy top.. :) Inspiration / The inspiration came through my parents, who have a topiary teapot and a topiary sugar bowl in their own backyard, the also told me of an amazing topiary garden they visited in Tassie recently. / / Here is the “teapot topiary” in my parents’ backyard, they are sculpting teapots and sugar bowls….there are lots of fun things in my mum and dad’s garden !! Even the Cheshire Cat and Tinman have a spot in the sun there :)

She has an M.A. in Comparative and Estonian Folklore from Tartu University, and has to date published four volumes of poetry – Kevad Astrahanis (Spring in Astrakhan), Simunapäev (St Simon’s Day), Luigeluulinn (Swan-bone City) and Kaitseala (Protected Area).
