  since i joined Red Bubble i have noticed there is a large amount of nudity on here, this in its self dosnt bother me as artistic nudity is something to be appreciated, however i have also noticed there is some of it that i struggle to see the beauty in… for example link has become quite popular on Red Bubble but each time i see it in the gallery i find it incredibly distasteful… now before anyone gets narky, im not saying that the artist is a bad artist or that this is necisarily a bad peice of art, im simply saying that to me it seems incredibly unattractive, however on the other hand there are images such as link, link and link that i feel have used nudity in its correct artistic way. I dont know what you all think on this matter, but feel free to chuck ur comments and oppinions this way, ill be happy to listen!

  i have been granted the permission to start my own group and here it is. / As much as i am a photographer i also loved to draw and paint the figure and felt that there was very few places and groups online to submit this type of art into. Therefore i have started a group JUST figure and faces that are approached through the use of media, such as paint , graphite, mixed media etc, original mediums. excluding photography. / its a new experience for me and i hope it will be successfull. / and i hope to see some of you there too.

  what is it exactly? / there seems to be a very fine line between this and porn pics. / artistic nude is exactly that. its not just taking a nudie pic. / its being subtle, secretive, hiding a little. / its a hint at whats there or what could be. / a tease, a tast. not the full smorgasboard. ps a few people i think have got it right are / kim shillington / jessica tremp / mugsy / karen cougan / adela hriscu / naomi mawson / jo obrien / cliff just to name a couple. / i think this is what people should be aiming for. / not the full on display it all that some people have put up to pass as art. / i think some of it is more suited to picture magazine. and even there you see classier pics sometimes. / there is too much of the porno type pics up that really do belong somewhere else

  I wanted to write a specific post on what we are looking for in this group and what isn’t really appropriate. as it says in the description, this is more about artistry rather than titillation or pornography. RedBubble has some well established guidelines on this subject but I would like to clarify them so that there is minimal confusion. The guidelines state: “No pornography or sexually explicit material is permissible. We understand that nudity is legitimate area for artistic expression but no images that could be construed as pornographic and no images that display genitalia.“ / This means that a small amount of pubic hair and mound are fine, labia are contentious and any depictions of the vulva will be bounced. I recommend staying away from really obvious open legged poses. With men, an erect penis is too much as well and I think it is safe to say penetration is right out! I would appreciate no more than three works added per day from any one artist in order to give everyone a well mixed group. I know there is a lot of controversy about censorship at the moment. these guidelines were worked out in advance to stick with RedBubble’s own guidelines. I am not running down more explicit nudes – in fact I’m a fan of quite a few explicit works. however, in this situation we are trying to present nudes that will appeal to a greater audience, rather than create contention. I’d like to make this a discussion area in the forums because everyone has a different view on what nude art should cover.. or uncover.

Would you hypothetically consider buying a photobook of my work if you were a normal member of the public and not a member of Red Bubble? How often would you buy a glossy coffee table book of art nudes or other photographic images? Your comments would be very much appreciated as it may help me decide either way what I should do. Tony

( http://users.telenet.be/3rioart/ ) / I have been working as a graphical designer / art director my whole life. / My personal art is very erotic and was not allowed in many groups for the explicit nudity of my models. So I am very happy to run a group from Redbubble dedicated to “The Art of Erotic Visions.” / My first aim with this group is to display erotic art that is not easily accepted by other groups for its sexuality or explicit nudity. However the rules of NO PORN, no penetration, and no erections apply. / My second aim is a group with a Vision about erotica in the 21st Century. / A picture of an exotic flower that looks like a vulva, or a painting or pen drawing of a nude girl is no vision for me.   I was recently emailled and informed that my art had been seen floating around online under someone else’s name. the images have been taken from here, with their titles intact and stamped with the name “Michelle Stark” and “are” the quality is terrible, which means they probably wont get too far, but I hate the idea that someone else is claiming credit for my work- what can I do to stop this? I have googled, I have searched different sites for ‘michelle stark’ ‘are’ ‘nude’ and the title names (and any combination thereof) and have come up with nada. do any of you have an idea of how I can track down the culprit and give them a stern talking to? it doesn’t look like polyvore to me (first place I checked).. I can’t afford digimarc so I need to nip this in the bud.

Many groups, now accept nude, so this questions the meaning of ART OF EROTIC VISIONS. Especially since lately there is a bunch of excellent nude photographers joining the community. / The new generation of Trevor Watson’s arrived. Those people who understand their camera and do their job with the most beautiful girls on earth. I think besides fetish and glamour these people need new groups. / So from now on, an excellent photo of a nude girl is not enough anymore, ( I will accept some of them to give you a connection to our group) but a nude girl, holding a dead fish sucking her breast, on the other hand, tells me a story. Responsible cat ownership rocks and I’m sure many people agree with me including cat owners. Anyway I felt like drawing a big orange cat on a shirt. Fortunately today women paint men, women paint women and men paint men and women, and the imbalance is being addressed. / However, if the work is too pure and not dangerous to the innocent ignorant, then it probably does not say much, is not art and should remain in the studio as a life drawing exercise to be explored at a later date in a different context. Rainer Fetting pushed the envelope on gay culture with his nude male paintings, Baselitz focused attention on abstract qualities by tipping the nude upside down, Mapplethorpe addresses gender identity and social issues with his unusual nude poses and lighting in the photograph. / Although in contemporary art practice “painting and sculpture” are now seen as traditional artforms, the long history of the nude in art continues to document the way we live our lives and relate to each other. Portrait, photograph, video, film, interactive art, hybrid, performance or the digital electronic arts using the screen, all address the human figure in one way or another. / I don’t know about you, but for me a good model is like a blessing from the stars. The energy exchanged between the artist and model can be the making of a great image and contribute to a more meaningful exploration and understanding of the human condition.
