I am proud to unveil my newest creation titled Coy Kiss / I have been working on this over the last several months and have finally birthed it as of last night. There are many layers and texture. This painting literally changes and comes alive in different lighting. I used acrylic and some other mediums to slow the drying process. After it was done I finished the water in my painting with gloss varnish in certain areas to achieve water highlights…so it actually appears like the water is real…and perhaps that there is even movement in it. This is a special piece to me, there is a lot of symbolism and beauty in Koi fish to me. Also I am drawn to fish in general and life in water. / The bright contrasting colors and dead space of this work is what attracted me to it in the first place. I want to say a special “Thank You” to Rebecca Cruz who let me paint her photo titled Koi As I was creating the name for it, the play on words for “Coy” just kept coming to my heart. Thus “Coy Kiss”! / There is a written work from Venus and Adonis by William Shakespeare, that I chose to describe my work. I feel it perfectly captures my heart for this piece and the moment… ...”Never did passenger in summer’s heat / More thirst for drink than she for this good turn. / Her help she sees, but help she cannot get; / She bathes in water, yet her fire must burn: / ‘O! pity,’ ‘gan she cry, ‘flint-hearted boy: / ‘Tis but a kiss I beg; why art thou coy?”... It was a wonderful piece to work on and I put a lot of myself into it…hopefully you can feel that coming through to you. / To check it out and leave a comment click here Enjoy! xoxo

  • Am I an Artist??

Hello friends, / I am feeling somewhat frustrated at the moment, it could be the pending full moon, or maybe not. I seem to be questioning my art, my style, as I am entering more exhibitions and finding no sales and no prizes. It is all contemporary, abstract, conceptual etc that wins. No traditional realist stuff. Even the traditional shows are now ‘broadening their horizons’ to include non traditional. Why? There are already so many contemporary exclusive or preferred shows with abstracts and the like. / I find myself asking ‘am I a true artist or is what I do no more than a ‘job’ I enjoy.’? I understand the diversity of art and I appreciate and enjoy many styles. But sometimes I just can’t understand what sells and wins. These days the art that does sell and win needs a brochure to explain what it is and what it means. Sooo, I am seriously asking myself ‘WHAT IS ART’?? I am not educated in art. (maybe thats the problem) I don’t know who is who in art. Therefore, apparently, I can hardly call myself a professional artist. / I just love to draw and paint. I love colour and using it in and on many mediums. I love to see beauty in all that is around me and reproduce that (coz that is essentially what I do most of the time….copy) / Is realist art going out of style? Old fashioned? Will it even be classed as ‘art’ in the future? Just my 2 cents worth. Your opinions are welcome :)

I finally scanned my drawing of House, and it is now available for purchase as larger prints, as well as cards. The quality of the new scan is MUCH better than the image I had up before, which was taken with a digital camera. / I also got 2 other drawings scanned; you can check them out below: / I would like to thank everyone for all of the kind comments on my artwork :)
