  • The house next door to mine is up for auction so I went to sneak a look at the open inspection ... it is a 1940’s art deco house featured in the 1941 South Australia Homes and Gardens magazine and it is amazing! This was taken in one of the bathrooms.

  • A wonderful Art Deco apartment block on the foreshore at Brighton, Victoria with a row of boat houses leading onto the beach. Designed by I G Anderson.

  • Art Deco sculpture of a mother polar bear and her cub at Melbourne Zoo. This image goes well with Kanagroos, Melbourne Zoo

  • A T-Shirt that celebrates one of Melbourne’s finest Art Deco buildings. The Century Building (1938-40) designed by Marcus Barlow.

  • The history of this old theatre dates back to 1912 when The Empress was built here. From 1918 until 1946, it was The Hippodrome and in 1949, The Crest Theatre came into existence, was closed for a bit and reopened in 1986. I have some albeit weak ties with this theatre as well as the Esquire. Along with seeing Tower Of Power and Todd Rundgrin perform here, one of the “girl groups” of the 50’s – one I performed with a few times (as a keyboardist, you wallys!), the Shirelles – performed here. I wasn’t old enough to be performing with them at that point but I caught up with them a couple decades later. :-D This building is one block away from the Esquire and about a mile away from the Tower Theatre. I live in between these locations. A major aside ~~ There is a helicopter circling overhead and broadcasting a very loud demand for someone to surrender and come outside with hands in the air. There are sirens and one very loud bang just happened. “Come out now.” I’m just typing away as it happens so you’re getting a sort of stale/live account out what’s going on as I post this completely unrelated photograph. I was about to go to the store but I’m thinking this might not be a good time to go outside walking. Then again, maybe I’ll get The Shot. Of course, I could just get Shot and not actually capture The Shot and that would be a drag. Some yelling somewhere… can’t tell what’s being politely but loudly said. No more ‘bangs’ so that’s a good thing but the helicopter hasn’t stopped circling either. Oh wait. It just did. Ah, 11pm and life in the Big City! OK, move along. Nothing to see/read/photograph here. Hehehe! This piece was generously featured in the Red Bubble Group “Anything Theatrical” and I am honoured!
