Coloured pencil. June 2007. The Beaucott Building on the corner of Walcott and Beaufort Streets, is a landmark in Mount Lawley and a beautiful example of art deco architecture. I remember being so impressed by “the curvy building” as a child. Doesn’t the roof look like the bow of an ocean liner? New original art listed every Sunday night in my eBay store
trying something a little different, once again

JOSEPHINE BAKER Art Deco print of Josephine Baker adapted to tee using Infranview and Corel PSP. The original photograph is in the public domain and can be found here / Josephine Baker was a burlesque performer in the 1920s. Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975) was an American expatriate entertainer and actress. She became a French citizen in 1937. Most noted as a singer, Baker also was a celebrated dancer in her early career. She was given the nicknames the “Bronze Venus” or the “Black Pearl”, as well as the “Créole Goddess” in anglophone nations. In France, she has always been known as “La Baker”. Baker was the first African American female to star in a major motion picture, to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world-famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States (she was offered the leadership of the movement by Coretta Scott King in 1968 following Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, but turned it down), for assisting the French Resistance during the Second World War and being the first American-born woman to receive the highest French military honor, the Croix de Guerre, and for being an inspiration to generations of African American female entertainers and others. A close-up view of the beautiful colours of the Art Deco tiles on tower of the City Building in Asheville, NC.
Build in the rather bold art deco style, the Esquire Theatre is located at 1219 K Street in Sacramento, California. Just a block from the State Capitol Building, the structure is ALSO claimed to be haunted by ghosts. Grace, a small girl entity, along with a small boy that rides a tricycle haunt this theater if you are to believe the stories. ;-) The third ghost story resonates a bit more closely to me. A fellow musician was murdered just outside the theatre by robbers who wanted his money after a gig. There are Sacramento musicians who firmly believe Jim Pantages never left the site of the crime against him. Building began in 1938 and was finished in 1940. If you look carefully (with yours eyes if you’re not colourblind and your computer if you are), you can tell where some of the original neon lighting was replaced with modern replacements and the colour don’t all match perfectly. This piece was featured in Northern California Style with my humble thanks. :-) A big treat for me was bestowed upon me by the “Anything Theatrical” group: this piece was featured along with the one of the Crest Theatre simultaneously, a first for me! Thank you all in “Anything Theatrical”, both staff and members! :-)
One of the world’s most iconic art deco buildings. The Chrysler Building. Designed by architect William Van Alen and completed from 1928-30. Since it was designed for the Chrysler Corporation it is decorated with motifs resembling hubcaps and hood ornaments like the eagle on this T-shirt.
The golden rays eminating from the top of the Empire State Building represented in the foyer of this iconic Art Deco building.
