I originally intended this shot to be a picture of my son holding onto these balloons and taking off, floating into up into the sky … a fantasy, sotybook sort of image. However, my daughter immediately grabbed these balloons from him and started running off. So, as it turned out this eded up having a more realistic look than the one I originally intended, but I thought it turned out pretty cute with the desaturated colors throughout, except for the colorful balloons. “Mais il est bien court le temps des cerises / Où l’on s’en va à deux cueillir en riant / Des pendants d’oreilles / Cerises d’amour aux robes pareilles / Tombant sous la feuille en gouttes de sang / Mais il est bien court le temps des cerises / Pendants de corail qu’on cueille en riant” Jean-Baptiste Clément
Ian Rilen was a legendary Sydney rock and roller and a member of bands such as Rose Tattoo, X and Sardine V. He died earlier this year and is much missed for his wild and wonderful ways. I found this candid back stage shot of him and his then wife Stephanie preparing to go onstage at the Trade Union Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills way way back in the early 80’s. They were in Sardine V at that time and when I look at this shot now the eighties rush back. Oh my misspent youth. :) So Vale Ian Rilen, I so hope things are rocking were ever you are. This shot is for you.

Young couple in love enjoying a sunset in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, USA. Other works in the Cades Cove Collection: About Cades Cove: Cades Cove (formally known as Tuckaleechee Cove) is found in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee, USA. Cades Cove / was a working farm valley until the 1930’s when the National Park was formed. The Park Service has attempted to recreate the 19th century feel of this farming valley and preserve it for future generations. Before the first white settler arrived on the scene, Cades Cove had been a part of the Cherokee Indians’ domain. Abrams Creek and Abrams Falls are features named for a prominent Cherokee chief named “Old Abram” who at one time lived in a village at Chilhowee on the Little Tennessee River. According to tradition, Old Abram’s wife was named Kate, and Cades (Kate’s) Cove was named after her. Please enjoy these other images:
Everything on the walls behind the kid is work that I did either in grade school or high school. Yes, I still have EVERYTHING that I did back then. It’s taking over every nook and cranny in my house, much to the chagrin of my loving wife. What can I say, I’m sort of a pack rat. Do I really need the cartoons I scribbled on my math homework when I was eight? No. Am I going to keep it anyway? You better believe it.
Even at two years old, Lucy knows how to go for the kill. Of course, it doesn’t look like her little brother minds too much either. In a few years, we’re going to have to start keeping an eye on these two. At least we know they love each other.

today i was thinking about abuse - / people who’ve suffered it. childhoods ended by it. it has, i believe – at least, happened to all of us, to some extent. abuse of different natures, perhaps, but we have all experienced it in some form. this is for you. this is for us. i am just so tired of abuse… / jordan busson. 3 march 2009 – 19 september 2009. add elucidate on: /
Well as you can see from the images below, The Empty Studio has been all about inks…my inks had been put away for so long some of them had dried out, and had to be discarded, but I still have an assortment of acrylic inks, and have been using mostly sepia and black for this collection… Today I added a bit of colour to this latest painting of Hollyhocks…they seemed to need it…I’ve had the sketch forever in my files, and I don’t know where it originated, but at one time I did grow these regal flowers in my garden and maybe the idea came from that time of my life Acrylic Inks on Cotton Paper… Silently a flower blooms, / In silence it falls away; / Yet here now, at this moment, at this place, / The world of the flower, the whole of / the world is blooming. / This is the talk of the flower, the truth / of the blossom: / The glory of eternal life is fully shining here. / - Zenkei Shibayama..
“Poppy” is the newest addition to the Empty Studio collection…the studio is getting a lot emptier as the day for installation draws nearer, so I decided to go back to long ago childhood crafts, and create this flower in a very old but unique way, painting it with lemon juice…I added a bit of detail with a bamboo pen…I am thrilled with the results, and plan to do a lot more of these..... see others in the series below Lemon Juice on Cartridge Paper At dawn I unite with the breeze / To announce the coming of light; / At eventide I join the birds / In bidding the light farewell. / The plains are decorated with / My beautiful colors, and the air / Is scented with my fragrance. / As I embrace Slumber the eyes of / Night watch over me, and as I / Awaken I stare at the sun, which is / The only eye of the day..from The Song of the Flower by Gibran.
Original artwork also includes The Changing Face of Now No.1. / Watercolour on rag paper. 45×180cm. 2008 I have used the fluidity of watercolour to express a personal perception of self and others and the changing nature of how we relate. In a time when technology brings many alternative means of communication, I am trying to bring awareness to the universal human condition that is facial expression. By creating a progression of images, I explore the changing perception of personalities as they shift over time, in attitude or mood.
