Simply choose which one you want to create, making sure that Textile [For Redbubble] is checked and the code will generate in the little window below. Once you have what you want, click on the Copy to Clipboard button [see below] / / / / The code is now ready for you to use and is copied ready for you – just go to where you want to use it on Redbubble, and right click and paste the code – save, and Voila – its done. / / You can also save the list for future use by clicking on file, save as and naming the file – Dont forget though – any art you add to Redbubble after you save it, wont appear on the list, and you will need to generate a new one Thank you Dave – its awesome.

  • Art Criticism: How to Criticize a Work of Art

Art Criticism: How to Criticize a Work of Art / A four step process This is what I give my students as a guide to art appreciation: 1. Description- What do I see? Study the work in detail carefully. Describe the work in full detail. Be factual. Mention everything you see. 2. Analysis- How is the work organized? Look for and talk about the elements and principles of art and design that seems to dominate the work. Look at how the artist has used The Elements of Art / • Lines- real and implied, curved and straight, direction of movement / • Shapes, Space, Forms- Are the shapes geometric or free-form? Where is the horizon? Where is your point of view as the viewer? (Above, below, in the work, or outside) / • Colors- Warm, cool, bright, dull, soft, bold, etc. / • Value- light: reflecting much light; dark: absorbing much light. / • Texture-Both the medium and the objects portrayed: rough, smooth, shinny, dull Look at The Principles of Design / • Rhythm- Are there repeats of elements or images? / • Movement- Is there an illusion of action? How does the eye move around the work? / • Balance- Formal or Symmetrical, informal or asymmetrical / • Proportion- The size relationships between one part to the whole or one part to another part / • Variety- Visual difference and contrast within the work / • Emphasis- What part is dominant, and what part is subordinate? / • Unity- Does the work hold together? 3. Interpretation- What is happening? This is more than storytelling. As in literature, you need to interpret and generalize from data given. You need to find the metaphor or allegory in the work. What is the artist trying to communicate? Use your intelligence, imagination and courage to explain and tell the meaning of the work. This is based on the facts you have observed and your own life experiences. You can express your feelings, but they must be backed up by the observations you have made about the work. 4. Judgment- What do I think of the work? Does the work hold together visually? Does it communicate with the viewer? Judge whether the work succeeds or fails. You give your opinion backed by the three steps above. To make a judgment, you need to be honest with yourself. You need to know why you feel the way you do. Three Theories of Judging Art Imitationalism -Some people believe that art should imitate what we see in the real world. / Formalism – Some people believe that the most important part of a work is in the use of the principles of design and the elements of art. A work is successful if the texture, color, lines, etc are organized properly. / Emotionalism – Some people believe that the most important part of the work is the mood the artist communicates. Perhaps it is best to use all three theories when judging a work of art. Adapted from many sources, including Arttalk by Rosalind Ragans

I’ve just gone through trying to find links to all the cards I bought, and that’s when I realised how important your tags are. Finding an artist by name is fine, if you know their name, but finding an artwork by title doesn’t work with the search facility unless the relevant title words are added to the tags. I must admit I found this out a couple of weeks ago, and have been adding title to tags since then, but I’m going to do it for the rest too, because the time it took me to find all those cards again was just enough to start making me tear my hair out! So please please please people…..tag your work!!!

Lately I’ve been extremely busy with my art making practices as the end of my Advanced Diploma approaches it’s close. I admit I have not been as active on here as much as I would have liked. Not posting works regularly, neglecting my group, not replying to the wonderful feedback I have recieved. Well firstly I would like tp say thanks to all those who have left comments on my work (especially after I was featured on the homepage recently), I always appreciate them deeply and they help me carry on. And secondly, once my diploma is complete I will be doing a mass upload of all the works I have completed this semester so you can have a chance to see what I have been up to all this time. So hopefully I will survive the next few weeks and see you all on the otherside! / Mathew

  • New Work-The LongNeck Sisters-Who looks inside, awakens.
    by Heather Brown Truman

So this is my newest completed work. (see my profile page, it’s called the LongNeck Sisters, first images in the box to the right, or just go to my blog at http://www.badkittyartstudio.wordpress.com to see more pictures) I have new people in my world, introducing the LongNeck Sisters. They have gone to the hill top, dressed in their robes of Autumn Song. They are watching the stars appear on a cloudless night. A patchwork blue sky that rolls and moves giving up only glimpses of the velvet veil. They are watching the future happen today. They are the gate keepers of history. They are on the hill top to observe the unfolding, the awakening. Dawn does not come for them, they live for the night and her mystery. Stars are their tea leaves and they divine the spiritual path, the awakening of souls into existence. That’s all I have so far. It seems that my work is revolving around building textural worlds, not just a painting anymore, they are stories and adventures I am not having in reality. I think they are more a documentary of one woman’s creative insanity explored…while I hold myself together through this cleaning ritual…Oy! I am feeling the buzz of creative depth returning to my thinking, my absorption rates are much higher, so my return out put is at a higher level overall. I have not managed to squeeze out any more time for the studio with my day job and all, but the time I am spending is of a better quality emotionally. I therefore feel more rewarded and want to come back sooner and do it some more. That’s good. I don’t want to create just because I can, just because I can turn my brain off and go auto pilot and still turn out stuff people like and want to buy…dose not mean I should do that all the time. yes art is a product, but I want my product to be meaningful if only to me while I create it, and that truth isn’t always pretty artwork. It’s nice when it happens, like this painting. It’s really pretty. The robes are rich and deep in color, I went out and gathered leaves of the maple trees around here, and tried to mach it…it’s the most drop dead kick you in the head wonderful burning color. I wanted them to be dressed in the colors of autumn, for real. The blues are extremely clear and sparkly. The heavy brush stroke is great when these paintings dry, because the paint acts like a reflective spark as light moves across it. So, it looks great just standing or sitting looking at it. As you get up and move around the patches of color will reflect the light and sparkle, twinkle and they take on a life like quality. It all depends on the light and angle at that moment. It will aways look different, and I like that…symbolically…it’s not captured thought it’s a living expression. I hope this post finds everyone fit and fine. I am doing well…it’s been 14 days and no smoking. I want to pull all my own hair out most of the time, but it’s getting better. It’s amazing how much extra time I now have…all the more time to work and wash dishes..woo-hoo. Blech. I have almost finished the new Monster Suit painting…it’s really fun and I am doing final details now…so I may be able to post that one before weeks end too. Neat-O! I will be painting more monsters, they appeal to the real inner me right now. Grrr! Have a great day one and all, Heather Buy some art today, Support living artists http://www.badkittyartstudio.com PS. the new painting above isn’t on my web site yet, which I have restrained myself long enough from saying is having a kick ass fine art blow out sale…ahem..so if you’d like to buy this new work…just drop me an email and I’ll hook you up. It’s all good. It’s just art baby!

Well it has been an interesting 4-5 weeks! I have had the break-up of a 6 yr relationship, an exhibition, the loss of my Paris exhibition and trip in March 2009 due to the break-up and a partnership break-up at work too! The up side, is that I am now ready to put all this to canvas…. and I am already working on some interesting (and totally different) pieces. The exhibition is going well, finishes this week (Sunday 23rd) and I have now had confirmed from both the Paris Gallery and my Paris Apartment that they are prepared to “move” everything forward to a new date! The gallery has an available space in September 2009; still need to confirm the details and dates, and the apartment owner has been most gracious and has offered to re-let the apartment for March 2009 and “hold” for me September and October 2009 for the time being, until I can settle on dates/times etc. Everyone has been just so supportive and it goes without saying that this support has come from many of you @ Red Bubble – Thank you to all! I will keep everyone updated as things progesss but for now, thank you and talk soon! Raven PS: should have some new work rever soon too!

  • Say "NO!" to the Orphan Works Act
    by bchrisdesigns

I found out about this ludicrous proposed law on Red Bubble...

I found out about this ludicrous proposed law on Red Bubble and wanted to let everyone else know what they can do about it! If you have not heard about the Orphan Works Act, then you should research it and speak out before it is too late (especially if you are an artist, writer, and/or musician)! No, this Act is not about displaced children or found animals. It revolves around works of art (including fine art, photography, writing, music, etc.) that are not registered with newly proposed agencies. ANY work not registered would be considered in the public domain. This is a dangerous concept and just goes to show how greedy and capitalistic our society, government, and big businesses have become. According to GoPetition.com: “If the Orphan Works legislation passes, you and I and all creatives will lose virtually all the rights to not only our future work but to everything we’ve created over the past 34 years, unless we register it with the new, untested and privately run (by the friends and cronies of the U.S. government) registries. Even then, there is no guarantee that someone wishing to steal your personal creations won’t successfully call your work an orphan work, and then legally use it for free. In short, if Congress passes this law, YOU WILL LOSE THE RIGHT TO MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR OWN CREATIONS!” We would be forced into a world where big business can bully us and use whatever they wanted and not be penalized for it. And, this law not only affects artists, writers, and musicians. It also affect the everyday consumer! If you are planning to get your the photographs of your cousin’s wedding developed at a Wal-Mart or other big box retailer, then you better be prepared to get every image copyrighted or you may just end up seeing them on Wal-Mart’s billboards! Gone would be the days of having rights the minute you create something. Now, if you don’t pay to protect it, then it is like no one created the image and it is up for grabs! Who wants to live in this kind of world other than greedy politicians and businesses? And, it does not surprise me that this has all happened under the Bush administration. Who were the idiots that voted for him and thought he would do us some good? Well, seems like the joke’s on YOU! In an April 10th article in Animation World Magazine, award-winning animation producer/director and speaker, Mark Simon, writes: “It is currently against international law to coerce people to register their work for copyright because there are so many inherent problems with it. But because big business can push through laws in the United States, our country is about to break with the rest of the world, again, and take your rights away. With the tens of millions of photos and pieces of artwork created each year, the bounty for forcing everyone to pay a registration fee would be enormous. We lose our rights and our creations, and someone else makes money at our expense. This includes every sketch, painting, photo, sculpture, drawing, video, song and every other type of creative endeavor. All of it is at risk! If the Orphan Works legislation passes, you and I and all creatives will lose virtually all the rights to not only our future work but to everything we’ve created over the past 34 years, unless we register it with the new, untested and privately run (by the friends and cronies of the U.S. government) registries. Hello everyone in the Land of Bubbles I’m a little bit late this week with the news bloggy thingo, so it’s 9 days stuffed into 7 tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Anyways, your bubbly friend is now back, after a self-imposed absence, having at first lost her buoyancy, some more bubbles have now taken up residence and I am in floating mode once again… Thank you so much for your kindness and understanding while i was away, it was a tough time. I am reporting in on sales, features and other news. Feels a bit tacky doing this, but what the heck… The week started off slow and ended with a real bang, selling 19 cards in the last two days!! The first card buyer was iAN Derrick a wonderful writer and character from the Tweed…hailing from the area I grew up in…thank you so much mate!! Not only has iAN purchased some cards, but he has written a terrific story sparked by my father’s (Clarkie) antics… it’s a ‘must read’ short story called Understanding Harry Do have a read of it, it’s terrific! (iAN bought 4 cards of Stargazer in one hit! and he’s using them as Xmas cards!!!) / What a wonderful idea iAN! The second card buyer i would like to thank profusely is the lovely Karen Anderson who plans to frame some of the 15 cards she bought from me in one go her children’s rooms!! Karen is currently living in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia but her home base is Brisbane i believe. And a great big thank you and hug from me to thank the lovely lovely artist Janis Zroback who has done me the honour of purchasing a card of Sailor Girl As well I have big thank you’s to send to venexian who today purchased a long sleeved tshirt of Chinese Fan Doll and thank yous also go out to the two mystery buyers who have purchased Iliki Spirit of Aloha Tshirt and Little Rainbow TShirt Party Girl Sky X4 sales / Sea Poppy X2 sales / Minstral Fairy X2 sales / Tattoo X1 sale / Lotus Love X2 sales / Mi & Yuu X2 sales / Stargazer X6 sales / Sailor Girl X1 sale / / Pelican Love featured in the BRAND NEW Pelican Group / Stargazer featured in Art & Stories Made for Children I am excited to say that a Press Release will appear in a local monthly publication for our town, very exciting stuff indeedy :D It’s all about winning a place to hang Madonna & Child with the Mum=Mum2 winners at the Manly Art Festival in Sydney which starts tomorrow!!!!! My art will be on display at the Chill Cafe opposite Manly Art Gallery for the month of September! Exhibition opens tomorrow!! Also, you may have noticed I am stamping your work left, right and centre with some new affirmations, rather than giving my usual comments…i hope you like them and don’t mind. They save me some time and energy, and put a bit of snazziness into my beat, which has been missing a little lately. As energy returns, i’ll probably add more words to accompany the stamps :D Thx for your understanding …... ...and finally a HUGE thanx to the very kind people that helped me out so much over the past week, i think you’ll know who you are….i give you my biggest STAR stamp of all, for your love and concern, advice and warm wishes has meant more to me than words could ever express. In addition to my other sales, and because Enpassant feels it’s worthwhile to mention, i also sold a tee over on zazzle of Teapot TShirt / /

  • Hack: RedBubble art list exporter for Microsoft Windows
    by Dave Pearson

Ever since I wrote getrbart I’ve been toyi…

Ever since I wrote getrbart I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a variation on that theme that might be useful to people who aren’t in the habit of getting “down and dirty” on their Windows machines, people who prefer not to install software they don’t know about and who don’t fancy running command line scripts. Last week I finally cracked and started work on something: This is a very early release of the software, it doesn’t do a whole lot of stuff. Things it does do: Lets you download a list of all your public art on RedBubble. Lets you save the list and load it again later. Lets you download it again (dur!) Lets you export the list as a comma-separated values file. Lets you export the list as a tab-separated values file. Lets you export the list as a MediaRSS file. Lets you export the list as a set of HTML files, which might be useful for including in your own website (if you have one). Please note that this is a very early release of the tool. I’m making it available to people who are feeling adventurous (or foolish, depending on how you want to look at it) and who won’t mind reporting problems or giving suggestions. I can’t promise that it’ll do everything you want, but I can promise that it’ll be free to download, free to use and will always be free to use. If you fancy having a play head over here and have a read and, if you like what you see, download, install and have a play. For the programmers out there: the source code can be found over on github. PS: Yes, I know the application icon sucks in a big way. I’m a developer, not a designer. :P Version Details: v1.8.0.0 — Released 2008-10-14 / v1.7.0.0 — Released 2008-10-12 / v1.6.0.0 — Released 2008-09-21 / v1.5.0.0 — Released 2008-05-21 / v1.4.0.0 — Released 2008-05-16 / v1.3.0.0 — Released 2008-05-16 / v1.2.0.0 — Released 2008-05-15 / v1.1.0.0 — Released 2008-05-14

  • The Sunday Times publishing MY art???

Oh. My. Gawd. It’s a monday evening. I drove home from Uni, threw my bag somewhere near my study desk, and collapsed onto bed. But something made me get up from that ‘comfort place’ of mine and so I hopped onto RB. And guess what I saw… This was the copy which was sent to my bubblemail: Keegan The Sunday Times is wanting to do an article on RedBubble and is wanting to use your image “Taking Love to New Heights” to illustrate it. Are you happy for you image to be used in this way. You would receive full acknowledgement of course. Kind regards Martin I am gobsmacked. Throw me out the window or not…I don’t know whether this is a good or bad thing. So The Sunday TImes wants to feature RB artists…why choose my work over so many other great pieces of art which I see on a daily basis? To be honest, I’ve never received such an honour before for my photographs. But one thing’s for sure though, it certainly made Keegan’s day to know that my art is reaching many people out there whom I don’t even know. So for that…I would just like to say thank you to all my viewers, and of course, to Red Bubble. For everything.

  • What's people's favourite work (of their own?)

I just lashed out and bought myself a mounted print from my own folio. So I got to choose from all my pieces which was fun but hard. / What makes it so funny is the piece I chose has only been favourited once and only ever received one comment in 2 months (from the lovely Jess Tremp). / Which makes me think Jess & I must be the only people in the entire world who like it :) Poor Jess fancy being stuck in a life boat with only me:) / It got me thinking. If you could only choose one shot as your favourite from your entire folio-firstly could you do it and secondly – is it the most popular with everyone else or just with you? (and of course Jess Tremp)... / My favourite I chose was this by the way.

How do you create your best work. Do you plan and think about what you want to achieve, do you previsualise the end result in your mind before you even start, do you let your environment inspire you and make the decision on the spot. Do you tune out and go into a diffrent place to get inspiration. Does your art or photography just happen. I am normally going out with a very general idea and then let the environment inspire me. My best work or best shots happen when I stop thinking and start being. This may sound extremely cheesy but it is like the camera dissapears and there is just me and the subject left. When do you create your best work?
