Our Book is Published!!!!!
by Karin Taylor/ !http://www…
/ / She Sells Sea Cards by the Sea Shore / A short story by iAN Derrick with illustrations by Karin Taylor (me)!! Karin’s storefront iAN’s storefront This has been an amazing experience to be a part of….an enormous thank you to Matt Mawson who has tirelessly and generously worked over the past 2 days to bring this little book into being….. I could never have done it without you Matt! And of course a huge thank you to the amazing writer and friend of mine, one of those great Aussie characters that just keeps on keeping on, keeps on getting better with age…. that is iAN Derrick I first met iAN through a journal Matt wrote about one of iAN’s books, and since that day, we sorta hit it off….. I talked to iAN about my father and he also was inspired to write another short story called Understanding Harry and correct me if i’m wrong, but i think he may have been inspired to write a story that reflected some of the goings on with Matt’s four legged friend also. One day I got an email from the amazing iAN, saying although he thought my father should be the one to tell and publish his own stories, he’d had a little idea and brought it to life in Understanding Harry and not long after this i received a second email saying that he’d done it again, but i would have to wait til the morning when he loaded the story to red bubble, and he and I and hubby all savoured the moment….....waiting with baited breath, until upon waking in the morning two days ago, I was thrilled to discover this wonderful story had been written. A story about my characters…involved a certain Mrs T….but i will tell you no more, as it’s a must read…and you can read it over here She Sells Sea Cards by the Sea Shore Thank you iAN and Thank you Matt i am eternally grateful

I’m not big on words, and to be honest reading endless forum threads just bores me. A quote I saw the other day is very relevant, I think “Saturation of information is the enemy of knowledge” and I think that basically sums up my thoughts on the matter. I look for the things that interest me, go straight to the heart of what I’m after, look up tutorials, and start doing. Here’s a link to the latest entry in the Seascapes Forum, which explains a little more about how to sell your work, I find it illuminating, since I’ve never been very good at promoting myself or my work. Bubblemail me if you’d like to be a “featured artist” and which photo you’d like to have included and why. Bubblemail me if you’ve got any suggestions you’d like to keep secret for the moment, Please leave comments here or in the forum if you’d like to get feedback on your work or the Group.

/ School holidays are over and so is the break from Art Class. Yes. I re-enrolled, last term and today it was back to class. Some familiar faces. Some new. Same teacher, to whom I turned, last year when the original teacher left and was replaced by someone whose approach simply did not suit mine. / Can happen! / First there was Gwen, whose first exercise she ever set her class, was to copy a piece of her art: A wave. That suited me fine. It got me started on, after copying hers, several other beach scenes. / / As explained above, unhappy with the replacement, I was enrolled in Melissa’s class, where I am perfectly content, not participating in her exercises but very much appreciating her advice and the manner in which she encourages the students (including me). / / For those who wish to be motivated by the exercises which she sets, there is an explanation of how famous artists, e.g., impressionists and Australians, approached their work and, for those of us who wish to do our own thing, she’ll come along; appreciate and advise. / / In spite of my daughter’s advice, to attempt one of Melissa’s exercises, I, very quickly, prepared some canvases, with charcoal sketches and took them along, together with the current ‘assignment’, still not completed: a portrait of the daughter of one of the people who attended one of Melissa’s classes, i.e., a young lady who, herself, is one of Melissa’s students. / / As a retired primary school teacher, also qualified to teach adults, (Grad. Dip. Ed. St., (Mult.Ed.) via UNE), I very much appreciate the way Melissa balances her enthusiasm, advice and approach to her adult students and having spent a few terms in her classes now, cannot help noticing how this is done. / / There are some new students. / / Funny, how it always happens but the returning students – particularly me – tend to go and work in the same locations, in the room. This was last term: / / By 3:15 p.m., it was time to tidy up and prepare to go home….. / / ....having happily worked on one of three canvases on which I had quickly sketched some outlines before coming to class. / / Worked on the painting, some more, at home…... /

This beautiful mele is one of my favourites and I love the gentle power of his angelic voice!! It is the beautiful Maunaleo Mele Keali’i composed for his beloved Mother, Lei, and the one I included on my signature image I created with deepest respect and appreciation for Keali’i Reichel ~ Darkly, deeply, beautifully blue! / Aloha! Sharon Maunaleo ~ Journey With Spirit ~ This is one of my signature pieces, a composite of seven of my images blended into one using photographs I have taken on the lava seacliffs of Wa’ianapanapa Maui Hawai’i and a full moon in Fairbanks Alaska. Maunaleo ~ Journey With Spirit is dedicated with deepest respect and appreciation for Keali’i Reichel. Carleton Lewis Keali’inaniaimokuokalani Reichel (born 1962) popularly known as Keali’i Reichel, is a popular and bestselling singer, songwriter, choreographer, dancer, chanter, scholar, teacher, and personality from the State of Hawai’i. He has spent his life educating the world about Hawaiian culture through music and dance. Maunaleo is one of his most beautiful songs and one of my favourites! / Lyrics Source: Keali`i Reichel album “Melelana” Copyright 1999 Punahele, Inc. – “Composed for Keali`i’s mother Lei, she is compared to the majestic sentinel mountain, Maunaleo, who guards, comforts, nourishes and loves her people. A finely woven cloak for the highlands. / A cherished one, respected for power and strength. / Esteemed, treasured, touched by heaven. / Capped by the silver of the rolling mists. / An adornment for that gentle heart. / Embraced by the surrounding ridges. / One to hold close, to hold near, to love. / One dear to the heart, precious, exalted. / This is my garland of affection for Maunaleo in its beauty. / Glorified by the Mälie breeze. / A cherished one, respected for power and strength. / Esteemed, treasured, touched by heaven. / For Maunaleo is the serenity of deep love. / Beloved are you, beloved indeed.” .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA1xzuP0nkI / Maunaleo by Keali’i Reichel

Now that ive got everybodies attention. / Very warm welcome to Christiaan Art Gallerie, sit back and enjoy my world of paintings. / Im new in this and, so i need people to see me and help me make a decent living.Advice is also welcome aswell as critic.Years ago when someone would tell me that he/she has a passion for a certain thing, i would think, how can someone have a passion for a certain thing, if there are alot of things and hobbies etc. to do in life! And then, i ask myself: What is passion in my life? Well i had alot of passions i thought, and had to decide on which one i like the best, because all my passions took to much time, and left me frustrated. I always know that i love to paint, but i didnt thought much of my paintings and as the time passes, i got better and i developed a certain style. And now i cant wait to do the next painting, and i know now what passion is. I think if you found passion in life then your on the right track. I believe that the beauty of art is good for the sanity of the mind,. You can escape from the present for perhaps the moment and travel to another world. It enables expression of the soul, the urge to be free of all bounds. Encourages exploration. Reflects our perceptions, our values and emotional reaction towards the paintings we creat. My inspiration and earliest backround was as a child. Born in the beautiful South Africa, appreciate the arts and nature. Attended the Highschool of Hopetown in the heart of the most awesome Karoo. Find painting as a enormes therapy, love to creat paintings with oil colours, seascapes, people and landscapes. / So please this is my passion and if you like my work, please buy at least a postcart. / Thank you and blessings. / Christiaan Art Amandasig South Africa / Feel free to contact me / cventer@ford.com / 027(12)8435879 / 027(12) 846637884
