20,000 Leagues Under the Bubble
by Carrie GlennIt’s exciting….it’s a feeling of accomplishment…
It’s exciting….it’s a feeling of accomplishment…and it’s an adventure to have shared my works with well over 20,000 people and counting!!! / It’s also an honor to me to be able to share my art and communicate with each of you. It’s wonderful to find commonalities in people and even friends in places like New Zealand, China, Australia, England, Ireland, Africa, The States and everywhere in-between! / Each of us and our forms of art are so different and unique and yet we are more alike than we might know. On our stage known as RedBubble we unite and create a much larger work of art…a living work of art! We have a beautiful community of people here who share a common thread of the love of words, lines, colors, thoughts, shapes, dreams and the passion for expression. The passion for art! Some of the highlights along my journey… My portrait of Vincent Price has had over 3,500 views…won the “Human Emotion” award and been featured in the Pencil Drawing group. / My piece A Fish Out of Water was featured on the Homepage and within a matter of weeks has had over 1,200 views! / / My work First Tree has the most canvas print sales to date which surprises and delights me. / The collaboration work I have done has been a great experience and really fun to work on, here are a few examples… Angel / Collaboration with Mark Peterson / Urban Angel / Collaboration with Alan Sloley / Time Flies When You’re Having Fun Collaboration with Dogbreath / Abigail’s Friends / Written collaboration with Tony Hedger / My series, Off To Fairyland, is in the process of being turned into a Children’s book along with Abigail’s Friends! / / Off To Fairyland / Deep In The Woods So thank you…sincerely…thank you…to each of you who took the time to view my work, comment on my work and purchase my work. My art work is the pathway in this life that I have chosen to make a living and really is my life; in each piece is a bit of me. / So thanks for supporting and embracing me and my passions.

The Big 30! Today
by Carrie Glenn/ *The Big 30…30,000 views!!! WOW! I’m feeling old!...
/ The Big 30…30,000 views!!! WOW! I’m feeling old! LOL! No really, it’s great…no actually it’s fantastic! Thank you to each and every one who has become a part of my life, my views and even my artwork itself. Here are some of my favorite highlights since the last ten thousand miles… The biggest news I probably have to announce is the publishing of my artwork in “Artists of The West” book! It is a true milestone for me and a great personal success. It was an amazing project to be involved in and over a three year journey. I ended up making some great friends and contacts along the way and really bonded with everyone involved in the book. / After the release of the book there was some really exciting events to follow like the first book signing in St. Helens with the official release. / I am also doing a public book signing, autographs and a special unveiling of three of my new paintings at the Astoria Sunday Market later this month. The Astoria Sunday Market / / (Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you’re interested or would like more information on the event) Also I am VERY excited to be a part of the RedBubble Rialto Towers art exhibit ironically also on July 27th the same date of my book signing in Astoria, Oregon! My work First Tree was chosen along with 40 other works of art to show in the foyer of the Rialto Towers for a two week art show! I am honored and thrilled to be showing my work alongside the other amazing artists and my RedBubble friends! I was also a part of some wonderful collaborations My collaboration piece Through The Past To The Future with my friend Michael Gatch was a total success and incredibly fun! It was inspired by his photo Through The Past / We had such a good time we did another one… / Apple Harvest which was inspired by Michael’s photo Old Apple When I looked at this work I saw the tree as the point of life that was celebrated and brought people and family together. I wanted to I take it back in time or to another time perhaps. I also had a fantastic collaboration with my dear friend Paul Hobday / I was really inspired by his photo Twisted and had a vision of what eventually became…The Other Side Of The Fence my newest work. Again THANK YOU to each of you who took the time to view my work, comment on my work and invest into me and my career. My art work is the road in this life that I have chosen to make a living on and really…it is my life. In each painting or drawing I create I try to leave a bit of myself to be shared with another person. / Thank you so much for supporting and embracing me and one of my true loves…art!

Why I am writing this at some ungodly hour of the morning is really beyond me, I am not even sure…..blame on me sitting here looking, thinking, taking in, reading into, seeing, all the images on Red Bubble. I suppose at 5:52 in the morning, under-coffee’d, let’s the mind wander, especially when viewing art. In fact, it made me wonder straight to the topic of this journal…...”Why We Photograph….” For me, it is not easy to describe nor easy to write about. It is rather personal in some ways, and obvious in others. It is about feeding my creative right brain, .....it is funny when I sit here editing a shot how I get lost in “the zone” and my world around me almost stops….the same way it did when I used to draw and paint. Therapy. Plain and simple. It is my meditation….. This is one simple aspect and there are probably 1000s of other little ones along the way as well. I also shoot for a higher purpose, a higher sense of romance, and a higher sense of hope and feeling. Some of you here know exactly what I am in reference to, having followed me on deviantArt for years. Others, well, you will have to read in to that as I am kinda restrained from talking about it….sadly. And it isn’t my choice. Let’s just say that in these last 3 years, I have learned a lot, about me, about what it means to be alive, about what it means to be accepted, loved, and given an opportunity that few will ever have. And every night I thank the Lord above for that. It is odd though, and many ask why I am on so many sites for photography…..and honestly, for once, I seriously think I have an answer to that question…... After much soul searching the last few years on that subject, looking for an answer and never finding one, I now know why. I am what is called a ‘visual learner’, meaning that I learn things by seeing them…..this all goes back to my childhood and how I am learning disabled, still am, but have serious learned to compensate. It also explains my whole creative side…..see I suck at math, and anything along those kinda lines, but I am the only one in my whole family that is a creative. This is where I compensate at…..I am not to good on left brain kinda things. but the right side, I will jump right in the fire in a heartbeat! This has all lead up to the above question---and now an answer why I am on so many sites…... When I view photography, I suppose I take it in differently than most. I de-construct the image, and examine it, usually I am able to do this quite quickly….having done it since my childhood. I look at it like a doctor looks at a patient…..trying to find out more about the image, how it was shot, exposed, compensated for, processed, etc etc on and on…..I learn this way! And the more photography I see, the more i learn also! As I said, I am a visual learner. I dive in, I want to know all, and photography is something I want to know more about. The technique, the process, the marketing, the professionalism, the workflow, all aspects…..all areas. How it is done, how it is presented, how it is sold, how it is bought, how it is shot, every single aspect that there is. And by being on so many sites, it allows me to take it all in…..my right side of my brain has a massive appetite…....to say the least. However it also doesn’t come without frustration. being a member of so many sites has caused some problems for me in the real world….sometimes I get a lil lost, never realizing just how much time I spend looking at this damn screen. When I sure as hell should be doing something else. It has caused issues in my personal life, issues which shouldn’t be issues, issues that are so far unresolved. And issues which must be solved asap. Hell, I have probably said to much already…so moving forward…... I aspire, I dream, I create, I want to sell my images and dream of the day I can really make an honest living from my work, I dream of the day editors call or email me asking me if I have some shot from Colorado…...I aspire to be the best I can be….and I hope one day my shots will grace the cover of the likes of magazines which you can buy in the super market. Will it happen??? I don’t know. I wrestle with inner demons a lot, I struggle a lot with the actual ‘marketability’ of my shots. I really am not that confident in that aspect at all….I want my shots on greeting cards, yet when I try to sell them, no one buys them. What scares me the most is the thought of this-—- / My pictures are nice, pretty, and well done, but not something which would sell. So I examine this, I reflect on this, I try to learn from this, and I try to compensate for this. A lot of it though is left brain, and well…..it is hard for me, honestly. I look at peoples work that does sell and I think “ok so so and so did this, so what if I…....”, see I learn….always am lol I think all of us in many respects are on this big journey together…...we never really know where it leads us, but we do know what we enjoy, and we all have our reasons why we shoot. If photography has taught me anything, it has taught me to have a better eye, and how even in the most ugly of circumstances, there can always be beauty. It has taught me to see the world and nature in a whole other way. It has made me think….and to become aware of conservation. Yeah, I know why I shoot….I know why…...I shoot because it is something I not only love, but must do. / —-John

It’s been a very busy month for me on Red Bubble ! Thanks to all the people who have looked at my Gallery and all of my Red Bubble friends ! Thanks also to all the moderators of the various groups that have featured my imagery – very much appreciated ! ☺ About a day ago I hit 30,000 views after joining Red Bubble in mid January 2008. Then I went out, and came back about 5 hours later to see that I had received very close to 4,000 views of “Mums New Baby Calf”. I was absolutely blown away – I think those people came straight from the search engines. A very random thing to happen ! These images have been featured since Mid-October : Live, Love, Dream – Saturday October 18th 2008 / Bursting Through / Video Montage – Saturday October 18th 2008 / The Warrior Dreams Of Home / Australian Contemporary Photography – Sunday October 19th 2008 / Customs House / The Patchwork – Tuesday October 21st 2008 / Gods Pixel 3 / Newcastle NSW – Friday October 24th 2008 / Above and Below / Statues and Such – Sunday October 26th 2008 / Convict Monument / Thanks again to all concerned, James

this my creto-on art and my art long ago as a young man, i was brought up on a beautiful island on the east coast of the u.s.a. called cape ANN, it had two art area,s on the island ,so i was exposed to art early in my life a wonderful man who was one of the great scluptors of the country, was a friend, and he introduced me to the arts for years the art idea laid dormant in me, i went to sea for 4 years, came home and moved to california, and got married- all the while in calif, over the years, i would go to musems, and see art i loved, lament i could not afford ,it, one visit to a museum., my wife told me-why don,t you go home, and paint what you love- as simple as it sounds – i went to a library, got books ,on, red-yellow-and blue ,and i was on my way, i worked during the day to take care of my wife, and three daughters , but, during the night, i,d go to my art area ,and paint, paint, paint—at frist i copied all the masters ,becasue all—i wanted was art—so after several hundred copies of every one you can think of, i became==me= but, influnced by all my teachers through art history-mean while i went to work for a small art museum in downey, calif, for 4 years ,and met tons of live! artistes who, i asked how? they did it-all my art ways , are off the board not in the text books of art education- but i did not mind, becasue all i was doing was!! making ,the museum, i wanted one day thirty years later ,1000, or more painting, and 3000 or more drawing – i am still at it-doing all wrong by the right standards, and loving every minute of it- i have met the world via my art-like all artists ,i am loved and poo pooed- but we are used of that- we live , in our little art world of outsider artists ,and play till- god tells us brush time is over—i only hope othesr who love art, are as blessed as i have been .—-i also do ceramic plates, which my wife ,asked me to do and some scluptures, t-shirts-cards- rocks-envelops, you name it-art and love what better match? this side of heaven?-this is just a small part of my art adventure there is more-like mailart too and no i am not a writer—except for poems
