  • Ian Rilen was a legendary Sydney rock and roller and a member of bands such as Rose Tattoo, X and Sardine V. He died earlier this year and is much missed for his wild and wonderful ways. I found this candid back stage shot of him and his then wife Stephanie preparing to go onstage at the Trade Union Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills way way back in the early 80’s. They were in Sardine V at that time and when I look at this shot now the eighties rush back. Oh my misspent youth. :) So Vale Ian Rilen, I so hope things are rocking were ever you are. This shot is for you.

  • yesterday I attemped to have a conversation with someone about what consitutes a ‘real photographer’. rather that respond he reacted by telling me I’m a negative psyhco bitch, the only bad thing about Redbubble and should hurry out to buy razor blades and kill myself. no shit! I guess this means I’ll never be a ‘real photographer’ so to celebrate my freedom from the label of ‘real’ I’ve decided to concentrate on posting some UNREAL photographs. Here’s the first. This is a chance shot taken while someone slept in the set of an alternative theatre production some years ago. Vale Peter your real to me still though you are no longer real in a corporeal sense.

  • / . / I had some requests of a portrait shot of my photo entitled “Luna over Luna Park”. Luckily, I had taken the shot. I’m not great at giving photos titles, hence the title for this one. This was taken on the same night of my other photos “Luna Over Luna Park”, “Luna Harbour” and “Luna PANORAMA”. The photos were taken in quite quick succession. I attempted to combine the full moon, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You might be interested in viewing the other photos because this is in Portrait, two are in Landscape, and one PANORAMA. It’s amazing how a similar subject can be photographed in slightly different ways, and produce different results. I will interested in knowing which of the four is you favourite !

  • I bought some Singh Ray filters mid November. I did not get a chance to try them out until after Xmas – says a lot about the mad rush leading up to this period of the year. • The Grace Hotel is in York Street, Sydney. It was built in 1930 in the Neo Gothic style, was renovated to be a landmark hotel, and is Heritage Listed. I shot it on Sunday, 18 January 2009, at around 7.30am, from across the street. The rising sun was directly in front. The sky was shot from my front balcony on Friday, 16 January 2009, at around 6.30am. The 2 images were then merged in Photoshop CS2. On both occasions I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark II, handheld, and Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L zoom lens. The building, which I have been wanting to shoot for a long time, was shot at 51mm, ISO 50 (for the detail), 1/100 sec at f4, in Monochrome, on the way home from another shoot. The conditions were perfect and the sky was clear. The sky was shot at 24mm, ISO 160, 1/4000 sec at f3.2, also in Monochrome. Featured by the Sydney Group 21 October 2009 Best viewed large
