‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D

This original acrylic painting is a part of “The Dream Tour Series”. I want to show the beauty of high quality waves at their perfection. This series is made of the surfing locations around the globe-professional surfers tour each year in pursuit of the world championship. Teahupo’o is a notoriously perfect machine like wave with a razor sharp, living reef bottom. My intention was to show how much water is hurled out past its ocean swell and forms a glass ceiling that finally explodes violently around, and hopefully behind the surfer who dares. I took this picture a couple of years ago at the beach of Marina di Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy. / This is a fine example I think of how a fisheye lens can completely change the feeling of an ordinary scene. The subject is simply some surf on the seashore, captured from a distance of not more than a foot. / The original picture is a Fuji Velvia 50 Iso medium format slide.
