Glorious daffodils on a lovely spring day at Cox Arboretum in Dayton, Ohio. This was entered in a song challenge last year on another website and when I was considering what to enter, I saw this photo and the song from the musical “West Side Story” immediately came to mind. I liked it so much, I kept the title. This is one of my favorite images. Canon A720 IS / f/4 / 1/125 sec. / April 2008 / minor cropping and slight sharpening © Rachel Stickney 2008 / ~~ / Narcissus is the botanic name for a genus of mainly hardy, mostly spring-flowering, bulbs in the Amaryllis family native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia. There are also several Narcissus species that bloom in the autumn. Daffodil is a common English name, sometimes used now for all varieties, and is the chief common name of horticultural prevalence used by the American Daffodil Society. The range of forms in cultivation has been heavily modified and extended, with new variations available from specialists almost every year. All Narcissus species have a central trumpet-, bowl-, or disc-shaped corona surrounded by a ring of six floral leaves called the perianth which is united into a tube at the forward edge of the 3-locular ovary. The seeds are black, round and swollen with hard coat. The three outer segments are sepals, and the three inner segments are petals. Though the traditional daffodil of folklore, poetry, and field may have a yellow to golden-yellow color all over, both in the wild species and due to breeding, the perianth and corona may be variously colored. Breeders have developed some daffodils with double, triple, or ambiguously multiple rows and layers of segments, and several wild species also have known double variants. DIGITAL PORTRAIT PAINTING – PHOTO PAINTING SERVICES Apple Blossom Chickadee has been nominated for the prestigous Pay it Forward Group by JackyP. This is what she said about your image / “.this is a particular favourite of mine and always makes me smile :) The image seems to sum up the arrival of spring with the lovely blossom and little chickadee. Renee puts a lot of time and love into her work and the results are just pure bliss!! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / Thank you so very much Jacky! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / Featured in Painted-Digitally – February 25, 2009 / Featured in Cards: Best of your Best – February 2, 2009 / Featured in Country Bumpkin August 6, 2009 This art started out as a photograph of a black-capped chickadee sitting on a barren branch. After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. I hope this image inspires you to dream of Spring :) / / Lavender Finch / / Fine Art Gallery / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.

When I see cherry blossoms or (in this case) Japanese cherryblossoms, I always think of my childhood and youth. There was a big swing in our garden….and when I was swinging up it seemed I was about to fly right into the Japanese cherrytree! :-) / Love these blossoms so much. / This is a photography with some filter postwork. _____ Featured in “Featured Art” by RB
Summer Breeze a beautiful poem by the same title by a dear friend of mine Anne Van Alkemade / Inspired by the song Summer Breeze / by Seals and Croft Also inspired by myself and my experience of having bugs and insects come to try and take up residence in my ears… scrabbling around in there, getting all comfy…while I’m going crazy…click beetles, houseflies and spiders so far have all tried this… lol This is a girl who has an affinity with nature, and as the summer breezes begin to blow here in Australia…....the animals are drawn to live in her hair thinking that it must be branches of a tree… yes, my hair’s that dry… :) I thought it a fitting one for summer, hope you like her… Pencil drawing took me about 3 hours / Digital colouring – 10 hours / Total time 13 hours
