  • 'Iliki' Spirit of Aloha
    by Karin Taylor

    US$4.70–US$125.40

‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D I think that the song Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole really relates to the story …. as his melancholy voice is so melodically accompanied by the ukelele….. it reminds me of the story of Iliki the young hawaiian girl, who leaves her island when still very young…. forever she haunted the mind of the young minister missionary who tended her and taught her in his first days on the island, he forever wondered how she was faring in the civilised world, having been taken away on a ship by the white men. He felt a certain special kind of fatherly love for this girl, and it tore his heart that she was so clever and cottoned on so well to the new english language, and customs he would teach her, as well as the scriptures…but she was a wild thing, and never one to be ‘pigeon-holed’ or contained… he set her free and never saw her again. Here are the lyrics to Israel’s version of the song, i feel that is how the young missionary felt, even as he grew old on the island of Hawaiia, waiting hoping wondering with every ship that pulled in, whether the young girl Iliki would be aboard and he would welcome her return, sadly that day never came tho: SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW Ooooo oooooo ohoohohoo / Ooooo ohooohoo oooohoo / Ooooo ohoohooo oohoooo / Oohooo oohoooho ooooho / Ooooo oooooo oooooo / Ooooo oooooo oooooo Somewhere over the rainbow / Way up high / And the dreams that you dreamed of / Once in a lullaby ii ii iii / Somewhere over the rainbow / Blue birds fly / And the dreams that you dreamed of / Dreams really do come true ooh ooooh / Someday I’ll wish upon a star / Wake up where the clouds are far behind me ee ee eeh / Where trouble melts like lemon drops / High above the chimney tops thats where you’ll find me oh / Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly / And the dream that you dare to,why, oh why can’t I? i iiii Well I see trees of green and / Red roses too, / I’ll watch them bloom for me and you / And I think to myself / What a wonderful world Well I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white / And the brightness of day / I like the dark and I think to myself / What a wonderful world The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky / Are also on the faces of people passing by / I see friends shaking hands / Saying, “How do you do?” / They’re really saying, I…I love you / I hear babies cry and I watch them grow, / They’ll learn much more / Than we’ll know / And I think to myself / What a wonderful world (w)oohoorld Someday I’ll wish upon a star, / Wake up where the clouds are far behind me / Where trouble melts like lemon drops / High above the chimney top that’s where you’ll find me / Oh, Somewhere over the rainbow way up high / And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can’t I? I hiii ? Ooooo oooooo oooooo / Ooooo oooooo oooooo / Ooooo oooooo oooooo / Ooooo oooooo oooooo / Ooooo oooooo oooooo / Ooooo oooooo oooooo

  • He Walks With Me
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I come to the garden alone / While the dew is still on roses / And the voice I hear falling / On my ear the son of God discloses And He walks with me and He talks with me / And He tells me I am His own / And the joy we share as we tarry there / None other has ever known He speaks and the sound of His voice / Is so sweet the birds hush their singing / And the melody that He gave to me / Within my heart is ringing And He walks with me and He talks with me / And He tells me I am His own / And the joy we share as we tarry there / None other has ever known Song Name: He Walks with Me / Artist Name:Anne Murray / Songwriter: T Whitson / Release Date: 1979.01.01 Many people have sung this song including Elvis Presley, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson and many others. It is one of the most beautiful spiritual songs ever written. This art was inspired by this wonderful song which reminds me that there is always a place where I can go and get away from the world…and He will be there for me. It is not that He is not there for me anywhere else…it is just that I often need to get away from the world and spend time in the garden with Him. I took this photo just north of the city of Orange, California a few years ago. I wanted to give it a more otherworldly effect to portray this lovely song. I altered the hues with Photoshop CS3 and then applied the Orton effect to achieve the final result. Digital art. Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. • Yucca Bloom
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Isa 40:8: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. / ______ The natural distribution range of the genus Yucca (49 species and 24 subspecies) covers a vast area of north- and central America. From Baja California in the west, northwards into the southwestern USA, through the drier central states as far north as Canada (Alberta province, Yucca glauca ssp. albertana), and moving east along the Gulf of Mexico, and then north again, through the Atlantic coastal and inland neighbouring states. To the south, the genus is represented throughout Mexico and extends into Guatemala (Yucca elephantipes). Yuccas have adapted to an equally vast range of climatic and ecological conditions. They are to be found in rocky deserts and badlands, in prairies and grassland, in mountainous regions, in light woodland, in coastal sands (Yucca filamentosa), and even in sub-tropical and semi-temperate zones, although these are nearly always arid to semi-arid. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia / _____ This Yucca photo was captured in the mountains above Los Angeles, California a few years back. I used Photoshop Fractalius for the special effects then enhanced the image using Photomatix HDR. Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. • Huntington Library Gardens
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Ps 36:5: ¶ Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. / Ps 36:6: Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. / Ps 36:7: How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. / ________ This image was taken at the Huntington Library Botanical gardens a few years back. It was taken in the Springtime. I combiined the original image with one of my hawk images. Merged the two in Photoshop CS3 then added the Orton effect for the final results. Digitaly enhanced art. The Huntington’s superb botanical gardens cover 120 acres (485,624 m²) and the theme gardens contain rare plants from around the world. The gardens are divided into more than a dozen themes, including the Australian Garden, Camellia Collection, Children’s Garden, Desert Garden Conservatory, Conservatory for Botanical Science, Desert Garden, Herb Garden, Japanese Garden, Lily Pond, North Vista, Palm Garden, Rose Garden, Shakespeare garden, Subtropical and Jungle Garden and a Chinese Garden (Liu Fang Yuan 流芳園 or the Garden of Flowing Fragrance) now open in the northern end of the property. In addition, a large open field planted with Eucalyptus trees serves as a re-created “Australian Outback.” The Huntington has a program to protect and propagate endangered plant species. In 1999 and 2002, a specimen of Amorphophallus titanum, or “corpse flower”, bloomed at the facility. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Huntington Library was named after its founder Henry E. Huntington. It’s official name and location is: The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens / 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA 91108 626-405-2100 Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. • From my collection: Darkly, deeply, beautifully blue! Maunaleo ~ Journey With Spirit This is one of my signature pieces, a composite of seven of my images blended into one using photographs I have taken on the lava seacliffs of Wa’ianapanapa Maui Hawai’i blended with Alaska skies and an enormous full moon. Maunaleo ~ Journey With Spirit is dedicated with deepest respect and appreciation for Keali’i Reichel. This beautiful mele is one of my favourites and I love the gentle power of his angelic voice!! • House at the end of the street
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

So you say you like to be scared. It’s fun. Just want to remind you to be sure and knock on the door of the house at the end of the street. Don’t worry about the illusions of faces or anything strange hovering about the place. Be ready for anything that you might meet. They are waiting inside for your knock on the door. The residents are always home. I hope you are swift on your feet. As for me and mine, I think we’ll pass. Seems like a great night to stay home, pop some popcorn, watch a movie on TV. I’m not a coward or anything, just remember all the stories. No one has ever returned from the house at the end of the street. © amari / ____ Artwork created with multiple images, photos and image created with Apophysis fractal art program, Photoshops CS3, Micrografx and Photomatix HDR enchanced.
