  Lately I’ve been extremely busy with my art making practices as the end of my Advanced Diploma approaches it’s close. I admit I have not been as active on here as much as I would have liked. Not posting works regularly, neglecting my group, not replying to the wonderful feedback I have recieved. Well firstly I would like tp say thanks to all those who have left comments on my work (especially after I was featured on the homepage recently), I always appreciate them deeply and they help me carry on. And secondly, once my diploma is complete I will be doing a mass upload of all the works I have completed this semester so you can have a chance to see what I have been up to all this time. So hopefully I will survive the next few weeks and see you all on the otherside! / Mathew

  Got it in the post this afternoon… I thought it would be a great way of getting exposure for important causes and the artists that make the messages of conscience in visual arts. I have seen members of the redbubble community go above and beyond for raising their voice when they felt strongly about something, it’s one of the affirming things about humanity for me. So… With the Art: Action Without Violence Group in mind I decided to apply for a rather hefty grant through the *JB Seed Grant Fund... if the application is successful (fingers crossed) we can print 10,000 post cards distributed in 125 venues promoting 4 ethical and important organisations, 4 pieces of work and 4 Redbubble artists… I thought, seeing as it drove me a little crazy this week, that I would put up the artist profile part of the submission to say thanks to the other participants for their involvement. Thank you!!!

  I Will Be In NYC to represent art and activism this June 19th / / I have been invited to the National Conference on DataBanks and Race in NYC to represent “The Genetic Bill of Rights Painting Series’ by Mariam Muradian & myself and to speak about the role of art (the artist in us all, to speak inclusively) as public awareness activism. The conference and the June 19th, 7-9 p.m. public forum (hosting the premier public exhibit this work) at Judson Memorial Church where our painting exhibit is being hung by The Council for Responsible Genetics, with support from NYU ~ New York University, and the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) Special thanks go to Martha Herbert, Sheldon Krimsky, Evan Lerner, Aldo Tambellini, and Kathy Sloan. This event is to launch a national (and hopefully an international campaign of raising public awareness and to fuel a response for huma love and justice against the threat being waged against all our human rights, civil liberties, and privacy rights. Cancer is like a virus program which infect Internet computers and spreads on and on with time; if not stopped by a effective Anti Virus software it will make your computer to infect completely and make it useless for you and it will also spread to other healthy computers on the Internet as the data travels to other computer on the Internet and will keep infecting. In a similar way if Cancer cells not killed by the body it will pass on from one organ in the body of a person to another organ and keep spreading and person will die eventually after spending $20,000 to $5 Millions and relatives become so sad fro untimely demise. This article addresses more preventive side of Cancer and change of life style to live longer and happy. Why do People have Cancer? Cancer is more pronounced in developed countries unlike poorer countries. / The reason is that the people is developed countries have a different complex lifestyle -use Mobile Phones, Microwave emitting electromagnetic radiation which causes Cancer, Fridges and eat 4 times out of date old meat with high level of toxic preservatives and people in poor countries eat one meal but fresh food and relatively simpler lifestyle. This makes developed country people over eat the large quantity of meat; coupled with sedentary life style like commuting with cars; watching TV, Channels and become obese quickly. / There is also a mad cow decease which is also incurable. I witnessed an alarming incident as a 10 year kid, the scenario was that a cow which was being sold to a man (butcher) and to my amazement the cow started making horrible sounds and jumping; as she recognized that this butcher will purchase her; and she will be killed by the butcher. So you can see that in agitated mental state animal ( Cow) also secrete the toxic enzymes when they know they are going to die and lead to mad cow decease. I am not saying whether you eat meat or not it is your decision but you have to live with consequences of your choice as well. Everyone has a free choice to live and die and no one lives for ever either. In the past, so many civilizations live and died the world over; because of unmanageable deceases. Cancer is a silently spreading decease and emerges when it is too late. But people think, it is not their chance, no need to worry. / But something is called Wisdom so you sort out what is working for you and what is not working for you. Our body is the result of the type of food we eat which makes blood contains red blood cells , white blood cells , Antibodies, plasma etc and the blood passes through our head having mind and our spirit. So body, mind and spirit integrate. Your body is a temple; respect it, you ought to eat what is right for you. Learn not only by your own experience but experiences of the other people in the past. / So, the reason is simple it the Food Chain which have mainly extremely toxic preservatives used by food manufacturers to enhance the shelf life; you can check your fridge as they write keep beef /Lamb for 2 years, Fish 1 ½ Years and so on. Our bodies have to fight Cancer cells 6 to 10 times during our life span. / God or Nature has given us the Antibodies and white blood cells in combination, as a biological anti virus to kill any cancerous cells which are foreign cells infecting the body. Unfortunately, Doctors , have limiting knowledge and still doing research and tying to find it out exactly but currently do not have a cure for the Cancer. So I have to say with sadness that the current doctors and the surgeons are not more than the butchers in desperation by doing Chemotherapy and the double mastectomy. My heart weeps to see our ladies going to such a unfortunate end. It should be stopped patient have dignity; a hope for the better recovery of patients. Chemotherapy is used in desperation to annihilate ( kill) majority of cancerous cells but healthy cells are also killed ; consequently, does not work due to the loss of resistance of the patient as the healthy white blood cells and antibodies also die. So recovery of patient is hampered and results in loss of hairs, extremely poor health due to toxic dose of harmful radiation through out the patient’s body. / Doctors are unable to stop the spread of cancer as cancerous cells move all over the bodies throughout the arteries and veins and get concentrated on certain body parts, organs and glands. So patient can live for few more years with reduced quality of life. CANCER is completely treatable without any surgery by changing your life style to enhance your natural resistance and immunity by enabling your antibodies can kill cancer cells which happens 6 to 10 times in each healthy body during their life span so there is hope. Even a cancer patient can change their life style and receive enhanced level of immunity and life a longer life with good quality. You have to change your life style make it simpler. Please note Cancer thrives in acidic body environement ( PH Negative) and need to counter it by base enviroenment (PH -Positive ) , to make your body a neutral environment ( PH – Zero). Even Anger and worries create acidic environment in the persons bady and invites Cancerous cells to flourish as antibodies are suppressed so they do not kill the Cancerous cells and it spreads.   As part of my on going exploration of earth friendly art materials, I looked into Golden Artist Colors. I use Golden products for my acrylic paintings, including paints and mediums, as well as for varnishing all my pieces. I like the quality and consistency of their products. But, with my new mission, whether I like a product or not isn’t enough of a factor to keep me using the product. The company has to offer more. I went to the Golden website and found an extensive section on social responsibility . That section describes such “green” initiatives as the Seconds Program, explained on the site: GOLDEN has an overall “green” attitude; everything that we are striving for as far as our formulations are concerned is geared toward environmental friendliness. This includes the ingredients that go in our paints, the wastewater we generate making our paints as well as cleaning out equipment, and any waste we may generate in between or after that process goes to good use in our Seconds Program. The Seconds Program is a way for GOLDEN to support artists and keep product out of the waste stream. Employees, along with local and artist communities, are offered products from the “Seconds Program.” The Seconds Program offers paint that does not meet GOLDEN standards at little or no cost to artists or non-profit organizations that can greatly benefit from the program. Golden produces a newsletter titled “Just Paint”, and in issue #18, there is an article that explains the company’s new water reclamation process. Water is a necessary component not only for the artist to use paint, but also in the manufacturing of paint. Golden has installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtering system that reuses over two-thirds of the water used to clean production equipment. They also utilize RO in a wastewater treatment process that filters out the solids of acrylic, pigments and other materials from the water. That water is then sent to a city treatment plant where the remaining chemicals are removed. Please see the newsletter for the complete explanation of the RO process. Additionally, the website has extensive instructions for artists about how to reduce waste of materials and how to dispose of waste materials in an environmentally sound way. To fellow artists, please do check this section out. Even if you don’t use Golden materials, many of the suggestions are applicable to other mediums. I use some of the cleaning techniques recommended by Golden in my studio, but will begin practicing even more waste-reducing techniques. I wrote to the company inquiring about the possibility of Golden producing a line of colored inks. I received a prompt and friendly reply indicating that their line of Airbrush Colors are essentially inks. I was sent a packet of informational materials on Golden products, newsletters and hand painted color swatches of many of their paints. I have since purchased some samples of the Airbrush colors and will experiment with them to see how they work in comparison to the inks I currently use. Because of Golden’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility, I am happy to continue to include their products to produce my art work. I am still waiting to hear back from other companies I have been using, if I don’t hear back in another week, I will send out one more inquiry. If I do not receive a response after the second inquiry, I will write a letter explaining that I will no longer use their products until I have heard from them regarding their environmental policies. I am happy to report that I will continue to be using their products, as they have very strong environmental policies in place. Here is what I found on their website: Manufactering: / We are holders of the manufacturing environmental British Standard 14001. This is an international standard and certification for environmental systems and we are committed to achieving the targets which allows us to keep it. / We have achieved significant improvement in reducing waste (reduction at source, alternatives to landfill and by recycling.) / Our factory machinery is monitored for energy usage and has been upgraded to improve efficiency. / We have reduced the amount of water usage in our factory and have invested in an improved effluent treatment plant. This has enabled us to recover 30% of water resulting in a saving of 1.2 million litres of water per year. / Our packaging recycling facility enables us to reduce landfill disposal by 180-220 tonnes per year. / Our office’s new individual heating and cooling system has greatly reduced our energy consumption. / Our cadmium levels in our waste is dropping by about 80-90% year on year which is a clear reduction in our hazardous waste. This is due to improved processing, not a reduction in the use of cadmiums. / Natural Resources: / Our policy is to use suppliers who can source FSC wood for all our brush handles, easels and canvas stretchers. / Where this isn’t possible, for technical or quality reasons, we ensure that our suppliers prove that the wood they are using is legally sourced and harvested. / We also ensure that we work with suppliers who have the same level of commitment to environmental issues. / All our natural hair products are obtained from sustainable sources and are by-products of other industries. Animals are not sourced for the sole use of our brush-making.
