The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by SBC, painting, and drawing. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda. It won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007.

Bacchus (Roman Myth names), the god of wine, was the son of Jupiter and Semele. Dionysus (Greek Myth names), the god of wine, was the son of Zeus and Semele. He represents not only the intoxicating power of wine, but its social and beneficent influences likewise, so that he is viewed as the promoter of civilization, and a lawgiver and lover of peace. / T_SHIRT / ALSO AVAILABLE / AKINOLAUDE /

Waiting at the water’s edge, / Watching all the ships as they are heading for the harbour wall, / I was just a boy, I was just a boy, / Dreaming of the wide world, dreaming of the wide world; Watching as they disappear, / Reading out the names of all the places I have never been, / Looking out to sea, staring out to sea, / Dreaming of a wide world, dreaming of the wide world; I wish I was sailing away, sailing away, / Sailing away, with you tonight, with you tonight; Walking down another street, / Underneath the red lights, I am watching where the shadows fall, / Looking at the girls, listening to the girls, / Dreaming of a new world, dreaming of that new world; I wish I was sailing away, sailing away, / Sailing away, in your arms tonight, / In your arms tonight; I wish I was sailing away, sailing away, / Sailing away, with you now, with you now… Author and singer: Chris De Burgh – Sailing Away / Album: “Flying Colours” – 1988 / ______ Chris sings this song so beautifully and the colors that are displayed in his concert are a perfect match for this work. / _____ I wanted to create a work after the style of Picasso only updated and more modernized that symboized freedom. To me, sailing is like flying…a type of freedom unlike any other…the wind in your face, the cool spray of water, the salt sea air…leave all your cares behind and let’s go sailing away. I started with a photograph I took in Dana Point Harbor. Then I used Micrgrafx to add a painterly effect. After that I used Photomatix to deepen the colors with HDR. Next, I treated the image with Photoshop CS3 plugin Redfield Fractalius. For the final result, I added the Orton effect. Digital art. / _______ Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. The ship of fools is an allegory that has long been a fixture in Western literature and art. The allegory depicts a vessel populated by human inhabitants who are deranged, frivolous or oblivious passengers aboard a ship without a pilot, and seemingly ignorant of their own direction :D

I have always had a fascination with ships and the ocean. Detail and craftsmanship of these old wooden vessels is sensational. Whether they were pirates, fisherman, sailors or just adventurous men who sought out adventure on the high seas they always took pride in their vessels. . / . / Lisa C. As I sit on the stern of my ship, I think of yester morn when all was good. / We’d traveled a long voyage. / My men grew as mates. / Bounds of treasures we’d found made for a drunkered night. / But of night last, a squall came upon us and two overboard. / As fast as the wind arose, and water rushed over was my men gone. / My ship tossed from port to starboard we hadnt time to turn her a bow. / Till late we search, not a thread to be found. / Not a sail touched, nor a rope broke it was like a dream gone arye. / So i drop these two coins in memberance into the sea, to ye brave men who gave their lives, / and promise to add a share to their families as deserved. / Now its time to set sail homeward….. / Steady as she goes…..through the Calm Sea At Dawn. My daughter is living and working on the MV Doulos for the next three months or so. As a living breathing Christian she enjoys doing what she can for charity, and as a pacifist atheist I’m very happy to know she’s doing what she enjoys. The Doulos is currently on a tour of Australia, berthed in Brisbane for another couple of days, and then heading to Sydney 22nd Aug, Geelong 11 Sept, Albany 4th Oct and thence to Perth 10th Oct. Unfortunately the Australian Govt decided that it was only allowed to stay in Australian waters for 90 days, so the few stops that have been chosen mean that many other cities will miss out. If you get a chance, go and look through the ship, and wander through the bookshop…..then go up and get a cup of coffee, and say hi to Cara!

Dear William; Well honey its been 9 days I have been down here in the submersible, I’m studying the dolphins this month. I wish you were here to see them all interacting, its just amazing. They dont seem to be bothered with my presence anymore. / Ive been studying these beautiful creatures daily and the team wants to test their certain abilities and game behavior. We placed large cubed objects on the floor of the ocean to which they could be tested for long extended periods of time. It didnt take long until they did accept the objects, or even the lights going on when they entered them. Our little friends appeared to love this one in front of me the most and are joyously entertaining themselves daily with little games like, who can could turn through the cube the quickest. The elders are less likely to join in but remain near by. Perhaps their knowledge of such non sea elements are considered a breach of territory or considered a possible threat. / Well I better get back to work….Talk soon! / . / . / . / Journal Entry: June 12th, 2012 / Day 9…. / Quadrant 8 / Subjects: Ling’s Pod / Time: 2:34pm / Grouping: Ling’s pod has remained since dropping the cubes. No other pods have appeared. / Territorial Issues: Ling appears watchful of outside interference, even small fish / Flashing Light Reactions: Adults still unsettled, young adults intriqued / Gaming: The young adults appear most engaged while others try but end quickly, still unsure why / Emotional Stress: None at this time / Time of Cubing Interactions: Mostly between 10am & 4:40pm, seems feeding schedules counter the play activity. ©2007 Lisa C. “Taking food alone tends to make one hard and coarse. Those accustomed to it must lead a Spartan life if they are not to go downhill. Hermits have observed, if for only this reason, a frugal diet. For it is only in company that eating is done justice; food must be divided and distributed if it is to be well received.” Walter Benjamin (1892-1940) Some groups that you may want to visit and join: / AW Welcome Center / EF Welcome Center / Globes, Spheres and Curves / DaDa Land / Boolean Art / Fantasy Art / Human and Nature / Light and Reflections / Disclaimer

One artist on Red Bubble whose work I admire very much is Daniela M. Casalla. Daniela makes visually stunning, masterfully created Digital Fine Art with great concepts as the starting point in her creative process. The resulting image at the end of that creative and inspired journey is wonderful to look at, interesting to ponder, and strongly based in intelligent design and sublime Artistry. Feeling inspired to act, I offered Daniela any one of my images to be used as an element in one of her brilliant pieces of Digital Art. Daniela chose one of my photos called ” Taken By God ” and used it as a part of her creation of this image for me called ” Taken ”. She is a fine Artist, and a very nice lady with a humble and friendly attitude – a great RB friend ! I feel honored to have participated in a small way in the creation of one of her great creations.
